  1. I think this place is the future.

What I mean is, I think virtual worlds like this where the only real purpose is to meet, socialize, connect, hang out, dance, have fun, watch movies, listen to music, and "touch" other human beings will become a big deal in the future. Yes, there will be bad things that come from it, but there will also be good things. I think in the next 5, 10, 20 years, people will look back on virtual worlds like this and Second Life and see that they were ahead of their time and that they pioneered the virtual worlds of the future as much as or more than things like MMORPGs where traditional gaming objectives are the focus.

I think being able to hold, cuddle, kiss someone virtually is something almost magical. Sure it is not the same as the real thing, but I was surprised when I first joined at how amazing it felt. In real life, I am a socially awkward, weird, introverted recluse, but not so much in 3dx. I fell in love with someone here more deeply than I had ever fallen in love with someone in real life.

I do not subscribe to 3dx at the moment and haven't really been there for the past 6 months or so, but I don't necessarily plan to stay away forever. I will resub at some point or I will join a similar virtual world. I still talk every day, all throughout the day, to friends I made here. We talk on messenger apps like Hangouts and Telegram and also on Steam. They are great friends who I talk to more than my older, real life friends. I love them all dearly.

Back to the future thing though... I think places like this will be much bigger deals in the future, and I think, for now at least, 3dx is the best virtual world on the market for adults to socialize and connect in. I think with its constraints that make it more grounded in reality, 3dx is better / more appealing than Second Life, which I see as its only real competition RIGHT NOW (wake up devs - you have stumbled upon something huge).

I think a virtual world like this will come along and explode in popularity at some point. It will have a bigger development team and more effort put into it. It may or may not have actual sex in it, but it will definitely have hugging, cuddling, and kissing at the very least. It will have music streaming like we have here and it will have dancing... much better dancing! It will have something like Rabb.it or Rabb.it integration so you can sit on the couch and cuddle with someone special while you watch a movie together. It will have better chat tools that can even be used outside the game world. It will have a better business model probably - something more like freemium where the bar is lower for entry and participation but there are ways for the big spenders to pour money into it and feel like what they are purchasing is worth it. This virtual world I'm envisioning will blow up and be a huge deal like World of Warcraft or even Facebook. I really don't think the developers of 3dx realize what they have stumbled upon.

Sorry if this is kinda off topic, but this is the way I look at 3dx right now.

  2. The thing I know about Love is that it is NOT..an emotion.

    ...

LOVE serves. LOVE gives. LOVE is NEVER...about receiving.

The way I see it, there are two main types of love. One is what you describe here. It is a choice. It is selfless. It is what we feel and do for those close to us like friends and family.

The other love is romantic love and I refer to it only as being in love. It is a feeling and not a choice. It is uncontrollable and completely selfish. It is a feeling that you need to have this one person all to yourself or life will be meaningless otherwise. It can be the best feeling in the world when it is reciprocated and the most painful thing when it is not. It is not just about sex. It is similar to infatuation or obsession but even stronger. It is what people are typically referring to when they talk about "finding love". I think two people sharing this kind of love and feeling it equally for each other at the same time is pretty rare. It is also difficult to hold on to as this kind of love can fade away at varying lengths of time. I believe there are ways to hold on to it and prolong it but it can prove to be a difficult thing to do.

There are many friends I have in 3dx who I love. I choose to love them and it is that first type of love. It is most definitely possible here.

There are others who I have had crushes on and been infatuated with and then remained friends with and also love in the first way.

I have also fallen in love here once. I didn't think it would be possible here in 3dx when it happened to me. I now realize it is very possible. I fell in love and it was reciprocated. It was a wonderful feeling and it lasted about 6 months. I won't go into it much more than that here on the forums, but I can assure you it was real. I have been in love a few times in real life and there is no mistaking that feeling.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out that all kinds of love are indeed possible here in a place like 3dx. Your original post however has nothing to do with love as I see it. Perhaps maybe the choice to love as a friend but letting sex get in the way of loving them well...

  3. True, you can be creative. You can be creative at taking screenshots, parking your car in garage, taking out the trash, cooking, can be creative in bed etc. Art is creating something what you can see with your own eyes and say that you wont see the same again ever. (not my words, but not throwing in famous artists names ) , All im trying to say, the Screenshot contest is a good idea , ppl can do a competition about " Who can take the prettiest screenshot "....just lets not say its Art. Creative? Yeah ok, i give her that, just stop crying lol. Art? Not even close.

It's art whether you like it or not. Especially the edited / Photoshopped works but the screenshots too. If even one person thinks of it as art, it is art. You thinking it doesn't count as art doesn't matter. It's still art. Why do you even care?

  4. Also, aside from it fitting with the theme better, I personally would have chosen Matrix's surfing pic over the glacier shadow jerking off. Obviously subjective though.

And no offense to anyone else, but it seems to me that Daria should be running away with edited every time she submits... Her work is clearly the highest quality and shows the best Photoshop skills. I guess maybe the judges didn't want her to win 3 months in a row. Paloma's mermaid pic was also super nice.

But yeah, more places in the edited category would be great.

  5. So, this is how I understand it to work. I don't know who any of the judges are.

Each judge gets 3 votes to place for non-edited pics and 1 vote to place for edited pics. Winner is determined by most votes from judges, but in the case of a tied number of votes from judges, Likes are used as a tie-breaker. The Honorable Mentions at the end are those that got at least 1 vote from a judge but did not have enough to place.

I think it's obvious you can't just go off number of Likes for obvious reasons, unless you want it to be more of a popularity contest than about the actual artwork.

More judges, as Achilles suggested, would be nice. Judges should be artists themselves preferably, but they should either not be allowed to enter the contest or should not be allowed to vote for their own submissions.

Most importantly, I feel there needs to be 3 places for edited pics. This is part of the source of the problem. Edited pics take a lot more time and effort and about half the submissions are edited. I put a lot of time into edited pics in the past that I was really happy with but they got me nothing other than the satisfaction of making the image itself. I've stopped doing the edited ones because it takes a lot of time and effort to do a nice one and I haven't felt the motivation for it as far as these contests go. Non-edited is easy-peasy and right now with the way it works you are 3 times as likely to place in non-edited. It's kinda backwards.

  6. There are parts that look really nice (environments, water) and parts that look not so nice (colors in general, cubes, bracelets, fires). Also there is the matter of the "addons" we have available in the standard client now. Not to mention performance is much better on regular. Highest settings on 2.0 gives me lots of graphical lag and glitching. I'm happy in the standard version for now.
