To really improve 3dx need an actual development team, not just 1-2 persons working on a game.

So you give yourself permission to be rude and hurtful Ohsweetjazzy?  Or just give others a free pass?  Obviously I disagree with you.  Anyone who is rude or disrespectful towards me gets iggied.  We can choose to conduct ourselves differently, we can choose to play the game differently, but I am on the game to have a good time and meet NICE people not assholes.

This is definitely not a "one size fits all" sort of topic.

So many different people with different real life situations.  You've got people here for rl dating; online only dating; people who are single rl, people married rl; kids/no kids....so many varieties and with that, intentions.  Some mesh wonderfully, others do not and some do just enough that they can come to some sort of understanding that works for them.

The key is communication and being upfront in what your expectations are with another person and that can be really tough because the basis of this game is fantasy.  If you take that, and the fact that many people aren't quite as confident in themselves as they would have others believe (on here), being completely honest with what your rl situation is and what you can, can't or *wont* do in RL is where people sometimes get stuck and box themselves into a corner.  I say this because I believe that most people inherently don't wish to hurt another, so they shy away from conversations that perhaps, while honest, may hurt.  When you have two people with two different concepts of the virtual relationship and where it is heading, that's where the problems can develop.

Talking with your partner is good.  Having lines or barriers can also be good.  It doesn't always work as people have been known (with the best of intentions however) to inadvertently cross those lines.....we are human, after all.  But, as with most things, the more you discuss and communicate honestly with your partner, the better chance you'll be able to navigate the "virtual" relationship.

I am not sure where this all got derailed.  No one here is or has supported being dishonest.

xdaxx, very well said.  I've stated before that for me, I'm honest and upfront with what I want, expectations, communication, actual sex as that's always a question, full intentions and so on that you would have even if not taking to real.  Why not be open and honest, I mean if you're getting involved with someone that should be the reason.  Mind games aren't right and can cause a backlash that's just not worth it.

xdaxx, very well said.  Yes, we are all human and I'd be a liar if I said that despite my knowing my current relationship would never go real, that I have not wished at times that things were different and that it could.  Communication and honesty is always key in every type of relationship whether it be virtual or RL, but every relationship is real.

I remind anyone who is thinking of meeting rl that what works in the virtual world does not always work real.  I have never considered this a dating site and I would caution anyone thinking it is.

Having said that I can say that on another game I met and fell for a man who lived in The Netherlands.  I live in the USA.  After 6 months we married on the site and a week later I was on a plane to Amsterdam with a ticket he had purchased for me.  This was a huge step for me as I imagine it would be for most, but I had just ended my real life long term horrible marriage and this seemed like just the adventure I needed.  I loved the shocked looks from family and friends as I explained to them that if he was out to murder someone there were much cheaper ways to do it than buy an international round trip ticket on a major airline.

Any way it was great. I spent two weeks there.  Two weeks later he flew to the states and stayed 3 months. A few weeks after he left I flew back.  We did this for over 4 years.  Back and forth.  Anyway, long story short, he asked me to marry real.  I did not wish to as, like I said, just got out of one nightmare marriage.  I liked my freedom.  He agreed and was willing to wait.  But he did not want to do the flying back and forth anymore.  If he left the Netherlands and moved to the States he would lose his pension and his healthcare.  If I moved to the Netherlands I would need to leave my kids and I could not do that.

It was a heartbreaking goodbye.  So I warn any one who is considering this that it is so much more complicated than it looks. Again I find myself very much in love with a man from Europe (UK) but we both went into it knowing it would never go real life.  Our love is real.  That's what counts.  So cherish the moments you have online.  If you are looking for real life then find it real life.

Sorry, Phoenixsong, you are not correct.
If you said "most people" instead of "everyone," I might agree with you.
However, for a start, I was away from the game for fifteen months but still read the forum regularly (and contributed), mainly because I was interested in WE. I might never have come back. It was only a supposedly cheap rate for re-subscribing that tempted me and the chance to do some building.
I know of at least five other people who continue to read the forum (and talk to me and occasionally contribute) but no longer play the game, mainly people who switched to Second Life or other games but who still wish to stay in touch.
Why wouldn't they? Unlike the game, it doesn't cost anything to join and participate in the forum.
You're welcome to have an opinion but, as Plato said, "opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance."

To give you an idea of what some of the suggestions here are on other sites:

    IMVU:
    https://secure.imvu.com/store/index/

    AChat:
You have Friends, Lovers and Spouse which cost you nothing.  You have block and that feature follows through nicely.

    SecondLife:
    https://secondlife.com/my/account/membership.php
You can have friends as well as be a part of Groups but that's from the purchases you made so you can be updated by the creators.

Yes this has been asked for more than anything else in these forums, so many times I wouldn't even like to try guess how many times.
With the loss of the full iggy I believe it has been made far to easy for people to be able to interrupt others games by going into rooms deliberately to cause trouble.
A boot from room feature is well overdue and if applied like Rockster has pointed out above would be something that could resolve a lot of problems.

Another thing that also keeps coming up in these forums is something that I personally would love to see, something that would have me seriously consider re subbing.
People have asked for the friends list to be improved.
If we can separate our friends lists into 2 different categories, something like friends and close friends, where we can move people from one to the other.
Then be able to select if just our close friends see we are online or both categories see.
That would give us more control over who we let know that we are logged in.
A problem many of us have had to face to often is clingers, people we have included on our friends list that don't really do anything wrong, but insist on seeing us every single time we log in.
Some think this is not really a problem, just boot them off your friends list, but for many of us it is not as easy as that.
It can take time to sort out, normally starting with trying to let the person know we are feeling crowded by them, which is often not an easy task.
You can do that and find they may give you space for a short time and then go back to waiting at the door for you to come in again.
Often after a few tries we then have to delete them from our friends list which can also often lead to other problems, people don't like getting deleted from friends lists.
There are a whole range of problems it creates, and I personally found it really hard to get past.
I also know that a lot of others have as well and like me no longer play.
I think Gizmo also needs to consider what it means for new players, as it most definitely had me and others not willing to so easily add people to our friends lists.

If we could have it separated into 2 different levels, then we could get control over who we let know we are online.
It will very much stop people from being able to crowd us and effect our games in such a negative way.
It will also allow us to be able to add people to our friends lists without having so many concerns about doing so.

My opinion is that these 2 features, that have both been asked for so many times, need to be added more than any other feature that could be included in the game.
They should both be in the next update, could even be the only new features added in the next update.
My opinion, it would be about the most appreciated update we have had for a long time.

Heh, you know. The more I read Alivia prattle, the less i -want- to be known as a DJ.
I'd rather be known as just a good MC or Host that people like to visit, then be labeled as a DJ if that is the elitist attitude that comes with it.

Do I set up a playlist and press play?
Yes, Yes I do. Does that mean I'm lazy? Not at all, there is a lot of work involved in getting a playlist 'just' right, to see the songs flow into another, making them fit a theme (if the party has one) Etc.

Sure I'm not doing this 'live' but that's because I find it more efficient to do my 'work' beforehand.
Again, so I have more freedom to do what I think -matters- and that is to Entertain.

To be clear, this is my way, and I respect those that do it differently.
There ain't no 'Right' way to do this, and everyone claiming otherwise missed the point of it all.

Again back on topic, I saw a DJ Shovel mentioned above here.
Is that 'Shovelhead' as an Avatar name? In that case, I wholeheartedly agree, he's pretty darn awesome.

This topic in many ways reminds me of the struggles the oft-maligned IMVU went through with people playing music in public rooms.  In the old clients, circa 2007 or so, developers could simply create products that were mp3's and just did.  Violating all sorts of licensing issues (regardless of where they got their recordings from).  Somewhere along the line IMVU (based out of Mountainview, California) got hit pretty hard and instituted a new system that made such development impossible and forced all users to purchase music directly from the IMVU site in an effort to address obvious licensing violations.  These days, regardless of whether you have purchased a copy of a track in your own collection or not, you must purchase it again via imvu to stream it in the client.  Even doing so there are restrictions:  no more than 2 tracks from a particular artist in a play list, and if you are in the US it's quite likely that many tracks you have purchased will not play for people in your room from different regions.  It can suck, but I suppose this is how IMVU is keeping themselves out of trouble these days.  As I haven't gone there in quite some time, i'm not sure if it has changed any, but my guess is that it hasn't.

I cannot even fathom (nor do I wish to go down the rabbit hole) of all that is required to be a "legal" DJ, and give all the props in the world to those who do.

In my case, when I host and stream music publicly (not often) every commercially available recording I play, I have purchased and exists in my collection as such.  That said, as noble-sounding as that may be, I understand that doesn't address the legality of streaming anything in a public setting.  However, many of my mixes consist of non-commercially available live recordings (ROIO's or "Recording Of Indeterminate/Illegitimate Origin") made by others or myself (old school "taper" who mixed and mastered recordings here) and there is some grey area that can and has been debated for years.  That said, old school "honorable" tapers always went by the notion that if it is not available commercially anywhere, and nobody is gaining or losing a profit (the latter part can be debated) that it is safe to release those recordings.  I suppose I translate that, perhaps incorrectly, in the streaming world as similar.  Again, grey area.

Anyway, just my random thoughts on this interesting subject.
