  1. Another tip for this kind of work.

If you start working on an angle, and want the next item(prim) to automatically to be at that same angle, then change the "Global" setting to "local".

Global follows the standard X and Y, Local follows your actual work and ignores the X and Y.

  2. Oh OK I stand corrected, it's not sand, it would not be in that section. -That one I don't think I have ever used. What is it supposed to be? Paper?

Its meant to be a wavy soft cloth, but like the polished timber texture, it got changed for some reason in the last content patch.

This, along with the timber should of been added, not replacing current textures that we've had for years. Not sure what went on here, or why it was done.

  3. In the last content patch, 3 of the polished timber textures were changed from a solid texture to a boarded texture, which looks good if youre using them for walls or floors, but its no good if youre using it for solid furniture, cabinets and table tops.

All the furniture I made using these textures now looks like crap :(

Can we please have the solid textures back as an addition to the boarded ones?

Ive included a pic of the 3.

  4. Mieling, I have never paid a cent in the some of the older worlds to have a monthly account. Most who build and are industrious don't. For some 3DX is more expensive. As for content, free content exists and as it has been pointed out, you already get paid in a micro economy daily just to log in.

On another note, you have to wonder why there still is no ability to kick/ban/set permissions/etc in personal properties. This next update looks like a good one. Lots of different features. You just have to wonder why developers who don't want to hire mods and are already stretched thin with things to do wouldn't make this a priority so they don't have to be involved in pretty disputes, jilted angry stalking ex lovers and the simple asshole intent on causing a ruckus.

If 3DX changed the entire model to a free to play with shop, then it becomes what nowdays is considered a norm, but if you have a sub in place, and also a shop, theres a lot of anger.

In Final Fantasy Online, it is a subcription only game, but they do have a shop where you can buy some mounts, pets and stuff, whenever the shop is brought up in the forum, it gets hammered big time by hundreds that are disgusted by the practice of selling stuff on top of the subscription, and is overwhelmingly frowned apon by the majority of the forum users.

The blizzard forums went into meltdown and had to be closed after they set up a shop in World of Warcraft, the backlash was enormous, and they have been very careful in what they place in the store and very little has been put in there because they know the majority of the user base would errupt if they started putting a lot of desirable stuff in behind a paywall on top of their subscriptions.

For this platform, at its stage, it would be a pretty risky venture trying to change something like this around.

While I dont care much about the kick/ban feature, as ignore is enough for me to deal with the rot, I would dearly love a permission setting.

  5. World chat transformed into a platform for advertising clubs and parties. This is good, but since there is no limit, useful information is quickly lost in spam / flame.

The idea is when messages are not free, people send fewer useless messages to World Chat. And there will be more helpful messages.

As an addition to this idea, make it so people can add more details to the room when listing it? Theres no room in the current browser window, but maybe a redesign of it and/or add a small button to the listing that pops a window so more info can be added and viewed?

  6. Going back to the idea of commerce - isn't it better to give users the tools to make stuff as well as an incentive to do it instead of relying on the devs to make things for us? Users are already making rooms and sharing them, wouldn't it be so much better if they could make clothes, poses, textures etc.? If the devs can't, or won't, do these things for us then there are users who can, and are willing.

While Ive been a long time advocate for users to have access to all the tools, I dont think there needs to be any sort of commerce officially hitched to it.

Theres a lot of very talented people in 3DX world willing to share their creations, that theres no need for adding any sort of burden to the end users outside of their subs. It creates division and can cause many problems of its own.

If you want to charge people on the side, or outside official channels for jobs done, whatever, but I feel it should not be facilitated by the game or forum.

  7. Heres a vid I made this morning showing me replacing the static open door I had in the small house I uploaded here last week.

Note the gaps I left on all 4 edges and that I used the mat in the room for the bottom edge as its the highest item on the floor.

It was a bit wonky going in as there is very little room in there to click through to, and it works a bit better on normal rooms.

While its a cool feature, I do wish they would of also given us a few variations of pre designed doors we could colour because you cannot put any designs, patterns or knobs/locks onto the door as they stay when you made then and block the way.

  8. moving doors are a great idea, but no one knows how to set them into our rooms!

It would be good if you gizmo could tell us how :)

Ive just had a fiddle with this now and a few things.

To place the door, just stretch it to the dimentions you like, like you would using the cube.

Make sure to not make it too thick, the edges catch on the frame and cause it to stick.

Also make sure to leave a small air gap on all 4 sides, so dont use the snap-to feature, manually align all the sides leaving that small gap. You can see the gap in the second pic ive provided, the same gap needs to be at the bottom and both sides or sticking/wonky things can happen.

    Hope this helps.

  9. Another room finished off, probably more suited to roleplayers out there, this is a small restaurant.

It was built as an internal room only, with no access to outside, again like the unit I not long finished, there are props outside the building that can been seen veiwing out the windows but It wasnt built as an outside room, so the details on the outside of the building are non existent, but if you wanted to add it to an existing room, it wouldnt take much to have the outside looking ok.

As usual for all my stuff, its notebook friendly at 157KB and has a nice feel under all the lighting presets, though I couldnt quite get the lighting the way I wanted. Play around with it yourself to see what you like.

    Enjoy  :)

  10. An old bug is back. when you input a value (rotation, size, etc), it is automatically changed with another value (90°=88.733). I wonder if you don't have the same

I had a feeling this was the case becasue I seen some out of aligned stuff while building yesterday, nothing to do with plates or any of the new stuff.

It was like that old bug where a lot of stuff moved a little.

But, it doesnt seem as wide spread as the last time? I only noticed it on a couple of things, though most of what ive been doing is the type of stuff you wont notice those little changes.

  11. New room time. Ideal for a couple or small group.

This is small 2 bedroom house I modelled from one I used to live in, it was a what they call a Unit in Australia, which are specifically a group of small houses built for the purpose of renting.

It has no exterior(it doesnt look like a house on the outside, just a box, so this will be no good to add to an existing map or anything like that), though Ive placed some greenery and props outside the windows for effect.

I'm happy with all the lighting presets. The pics were taken with default night a 1

It runs nicely on laptops and is 168KB

    Enjoy!  :)

  12. I use a couple of variations depending on the situation, and it mainly depends on how many are there. If youre doing a personal private scene with just the 2 of you, then its fine in my opinion to use "you" instead of "him", "her" or their name, but if theres 3 or 4 people, then it can be a problem as to which person it is directed at, so its best to use their name in that example.

As for the usage of /emote, its purpose is simple, to paint a picture so to speak, of what your character is doing that is not possible to actually do in the game. An example would be: Jenc spreads her legs widely during the dance to make her already short skirt rise up her thighs even higher, allowing a glimpse of her ultra fine silk underwear to show while smiling at xxxx.

I never use it for the roleplaying text, just standard chat is always used for that, though I can mix it into an /e like: Jenc looks towards the doorway to where xxxx is standing, beams a big smile.. "Hello xxxx, come to join the party?" The quotation marks to point out where the emote stops and the chat starts.

If you always used it as a chat, then its purpose becomes pointless because as I said, it is to differentiate actions and talk.

Some people do it differently, dont think that you have to do it their way, just go with what youre comfortable with, and as you meet more people, you will come across a few different styles that you may pick up some parts of for your own use.

    Hope this helps some.

  13. JenC - excited to see that!  Seems like a great setting to me.

It is, I have my diner there on the corner, a small irish pub and a police station, my coffee shop and a cheap motel up the road, and a small shopping centre.

The entire layout is pretty well complete, but I am having a little trouble balancing what I want in the world vs how well I can make it run on lesser machines like laptops and such.

I will be putting it up for download when Im done.

I started this and about 5 other projects earlier in the year and have been waiting on some more tools, namely a better lighting tool, but who knows if we will get it, so Im finishing these up the best I can with what we have.

The other ones are 2 personal houses( a large and a small). A desert oasis village themed from a Final Fantasy 14 location, and a large luxury yacht. An underground vault loosely themed from the Fallout series.

All of these are 90% complete or more.

I wont be releasing the vault though, I spent so many hrs trying different lighting options, but cannot get the right mood with the current lighting tools, the bleed from the lights destroys what I want from that room. :(

  14. its not about people opening rooms that havent before. but if you open a room now and the list is populated, once you leave it closes. new people sign in, opening more rooms. with all rooms showing offline or on, seems foolish for anyone to think said list wont get very long.

I could understand that concern if this was automatic and that every room ever opened stayed open, but if you have to make an effort each time to select something to have it stay open while youre away, then I cant see your concern being any problem.?
