I originally came to the game, like many, looking for an escape from reality and a place to explore and experiment. These days it's become part of my reality. It's a place I can meet friends, spend time with my guy and he and I still use this virtual world to experiment from time to time.. because we met here, even if Will gets his way and we end up married with a bunch of kids, we might still come here .. it's kinda like some couples have a favorite restaurant where they had their first date. It's the social aspect that keeps me coming back though. I semi agree with Mulan, in many cases, we leave 3DX no better off in the real world than when we started. But I think this is wholly dependent on the person. If you go through your virtual life with the attitude that you do not want to mix the real and the virtual, then chances are you will be alone when you leave. However, that still doesn't mean you leave with nothing. If you've invested well in your time in the game, the game will shape you into a different person than when you leave. You'll have the memories and life lessons to carry with you. You can only get back what you put in. I know I'm incredibly lucky for the position I find myself in, I have a handful of friends and an amazing BF that have made the jump from virtual to reality but it didn't come without cost. For many, it's not something they are willing to do, we all put ourselves in a vulnerable position when we open up to someone and let them in and know the real us but I highly recommend doing it, if you can. What I mean is, I think virtual worlds like this where the only real purpose is to meet, socialize, connect, hang out, dance, have fun, watch movies, listen to music, and "touch" other human beings will become a big deal in the future. Yes, there will be bad things that come from it, but there will also be good things. I think in the next 5, 10, 20 years, people will look back on virtual worlds like this and Second Life and see that they were ahead of their time and that they pioneered the virtual worlds of the future as much as or more than things like MMORPGs where traditional gaming objectives are the focus. I think being able to hold, cuddle, kiss someone virtually is something almost magical. Sure it is not the same as the real thing, but I was surprised when I first joined at how amazing it felt. In real life, I am a socially awkward, weird, introverted recluse, but not so much in 3dx. I fell in love with someone here more deeply than I had ever fallen in love with someone in real life. I do not subscribe to 3dx at the moment and haven't really been there for the past 6 months or so, but I don't necessarily plan to stay away forever. I will resub at some point or I will join a similar virtual world. I still talk every day, all throughout the day, to friends I made here. We talk on messenger apps like Hangouts and Telegram and also on Steam. They are great friends who I talk to more than my older, real life friends. I love them all dearly. Back to the future thing though... I think places like this will be much bigger deals in the future, and I think, for now at least, 3dx is the best virtual world on the market for adults to socialize and connect in. I think with its constraints that make it more grounded in reality, 3dx is better / more appealing than Second Life, which I see as its only real competition RIGHT NOW (wake up devs - you have stumbled upon something huge). I think a virtual world like this will come along and explode in popularity at some point. It will have a bigger development team and more effort put into it. It may or may not have actual sex in it, but it will definitely have hugging, cuddling, and kissing at the very least. It will have music streaming like we have here and it will have dancing... much better dancing! It will have something like Rabb.it or Rabb.it integration so you can sit on the couch and cuddle with someone special while you watch a movie together. It will have better chat tools that can even be used outside the game world. It will have a better business model probably - something more like freemium where the bar is lower for entry and participation but there are ways for the big spenders to pour money into it and feel like what they are purchasing is worth it. This virtual world I'm envisioning will blow up and be a huge deal like World of Warcraft or even Facebook. I really don't think the developers of 3dx realize what they have stumbled upon. The V World just opens that up to far more people and makes it convenient.I agree this is the future and social networking will leap ahead in the form of Virtual Reality as this tech is just starting to filter into peoples homes. Its early days.It will never replace real life interaction but hey, we might all be in a virtual world now for all we know, but life evolves as we do and the way we live is forever changing. I believe there is a lot of value in real human interaction, but what is real? I think speaking to people here can be real; there are still real people with real emotions sitting behind the keyboard. Gone are the days where you think of gamers as social outcasts, unable to make friends. I think people in virtual world's like 3DX probably communicate more than most "normal" people. 3D world's like this one also help break down the traditional barriers. It is amazing how some of my closest friends are from places like Russia, Italy, Holland, Belgium, America - something just five years ago, I would have never imagined. The more people can come together around the world from many different cultures is only a good thing. In a world where we see more and more, us and them mentality. The economy is broken, so people blame the most vulnerable, the immigrants, people want to close the borders to protect jobs, which honestly, is all bullshit. We live in a global world and jobs will eventually go to machines, not people in other countries. The Internet, in theory, removes these boundaries, to help democratise and give free speech to the world. In a way, the internet still does facilitate that.
