In theory? Yes
Haven't heard of it happening before, but it could also have to do with the server they were using before if they are just renting out space on a server farm (witch it sounds like they were doing) and said farm barely did the minimal to safeguard.
 
EDIT: And if they were already looking at swapping out servers anyways, this response makes sense... why try to replace the broken stuff when your going to be changing away from it in a few months anyways? By just moving us all over to their test server, it gives them the chance to stress test it, and get it up and running faster, in the long run it is the better choice... will be cold comfort depending on some of those bugs we will be finding in the short term however.

When open this new-test-server?

Due to the DDoS attack on the server, the hard disk was damaged, the system crashed and administrators responded slowly. User data was not affected, however, restoring the game in such conditions is difficult and long.
Our plan is as follows:
We have a new test server, which is located in a more respectable data center. We will transfer all users to the test server to quickly give people the opportunity to play the game. If everything goes well, then all players will receive the patch and immediately be able to play on the test server.

Since the test server has not been fully tested, players will probably encounter bugs, which we will try to quickly patch to fix. Please bare this in mind and please continue to report them.

We understand that playing in this way can be uncomfortable for many players, so we will freeze all current membership time until the situation improves, all registered users will play for free until it's solved.

So I spoke to a programmer and network and server maintenance officer. He is a friend of my dad.
If it had been a DDOS attack, the problem would have been resolved in a maximum of 3 hours. There are also programs that each server can easily have, which serve precisely to protect them from these problems.
So they are telling us many lies. And this is the thing that makes me so angry.

First it was a maintenance.
Then it was a crash.
Now it's a DDoS. 
Please, tell us the truth.
Was it DDoS from the beginning? Or it's just an excuse? Or what is happening?

If the "What's new" section and the official website are back online, maybe they are trying to restart the server ....
I'm not an expert girl on these things, but maybe we have some hope of being able to play tonight.
Of course if Lisa updates us here on the forum more frequently it would be better. It would be even fairer if Gizmo kept us informed.
