Although I agree basically with what you say Xizi, good moderation requires explanation.
In other words, it is not just good enough to warn, delete, block, ban, etc. without an explanation (which will always cause animosity from some quarters), even if it is just to refer to the ToS.

If moderators were obliged to do that, it would resolve a lot of the problems that arise with "volunteer" moderation.

THX, I don't really believe that Gizmo will be able to hire a good moderators team without money. Yeah, there exist some amount of people who are really ready to work for "free" just to make this game and forum a better places, but I am pretty sure most of them not really ready to do it "free", they just can enjoy power over others instead of money. Do I want WC and forum to be a better place without verbal abuse, personal attacks and spam? Yes, would be nice. Is it worth to have some power-hungry mods who can use their power against someone who they dislike or give some free pass to someone who they like? I doubt it. The other way - pay-based hired mods. But I doubt Gizmo going to pay for a moderators team.

What was wrong with using twitter? It seemed like a good fit for the kind of updates, and news they tend to release. Honestly if they they are going to stop using the forum maybe a blog, or even just keeping the updates section on the main site up to date, and more informative would be a good solution. I am sure this forum is hard to moderate, and mostly a waste of their effort with having to approve post, and deal with spammers, trolls, and what not; however, people shouldn't need to use an app just to get news updates.

That's the FIRST thing you notice, the advertising .. Must be, since it's the 1st thing you mentioned. Not the useless, although sometimes entertaining, trolls
 
Maybe if WC is used to do promos .. you should, for a rare time, listen to your client base and make a "promo channel" ?
 
 
The idea is more .. "Let's make people spend their XGold then maybe they'll buy more in the future and will ultimately generate us more revenue.. maybe." .. and tell me how you plan on allowing the room owners(remember the ones that attract people on your servers in the 1st place, that keep them there) to manage the "flame, promo" in THEIR room from other members if you implement this idea ?
 
Who, in your entourage, comes up and actually suggests those ideas to you? Regardless, take a shovel, wind up and take a good whack at them because it's surely not us, I have never seen ANYONE post this on the forums. Link me up if that has been suggested somewhere though.
 
Keep working on stuff your client base does NOT ask for. Rest assured that in time, you won't need to add anything to this game.
 
As for your "useless / helpful messages" comment .. I know you tried moderators before and it didn't work out but, leaving the chat unattended .. what DID YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN?

Thought I would edit this post into something productive. One thing I would love to see on 3dx, kind of inspired by the post above this, is some sort of status option for members. Not exactly sure where I would add it, but for now I am going to say the friends list and chat tabs. By status I mean “online”, “offline”, “away” and “do not disturb”. I would not use the actual words to display status but instead something like a small dot next to the user name. Green for online, yellow for away, red for do not disturb and I suppose grey or black for offline. Not an original concept. It is already a part of all the messengers we currently use, such as Discord, and ones we used to use a long time ago.

I would like to have a script for a signpost, clipboard, menu or something like that.

I.e. If you click on it, something like a "location profile" opens, in which advise, regulations, staff members and so on can be read (and easily edited by the location owner).

someone did not like spam in WC and offered an idea with Paid chat to make suffer the others. It will only lead WC to become Water Closet full of Spam and there will be not any of messages of regular chat. they will be ok to pay but it wont be nice conversation anymore, only a bag full of paid Advertisement. Think what you want carefully.
 
someone did not like one person dramatic alter ego and offered an idea to remove all alts for the others. It will lead to the lack of visual part of roleplay, harassment and no ways back if people made a mistake making wrong character, people will suffer being not able to be who they imagine. for the other thing there is moderation and report button but why to bother devs to ban 1 user if we can bother them to remove the whole game aspect and make innocent people who did not make an "alt drama" suffer? this is stupid.
 
someone did not like cold invites and offered the idea removing one to make the other people suffer so they will never be creative in social games like Catch and fuck or Stripes and Ladders or other puzzle interactivity.

If we are going to do that why would we still call it World Chat, as it will no longer be a chat block, it will be for paid ads and people who want to throw slurs and start rumours.
Also what will happen when the trolls start going into local chats to do thier ego tripping, will we then have to pay for local chats ?
I know this is trying to clean up world chat, and I also know it needs it, but this is not the way to go about it.
What this is, is taking away world chat and replacing it with a money making tab where there will be no genuine chat.
Don't you see, we are fighting to try keep a world chat, yes it needs to be cleaned up, but no it does not need to be taken away.
If people need to advertise thier rooms, give them somewhere where they can advertise.
For the trolls, the devs need to start actually punishing them as they are often breaking the rules, instead they have been let go for far to long.
Taking away something from the game, which is what is happening here, making it so the few that do the wrong thing have to pay to be able to do so, means that the rest of us have to pay the price.
I am not just talking about having to pay to be able to say something in world chat, I am saying world chat will very much not be there for chatting any more.
There were things that world chat could be used for that neither local or group chats can do.
Yes it has not been used much for those things of late, but doing this will make it so it never will again.

So those of us that do use alts only for building are shit out of luck cause you have drama???? Maybe a better solution would be for you to try and deal with drama on your own account rather than disrupt everyones account??? (NOT TRYING TO COME OFF SOUNDING LIKE A BITCH HERE EITHER *smiles*) Go ahead and do away wtih alts if you want but you had better give me the option to come on the game and set it to show that I am OFF LINE.  Yes I love my friends here and enjoy talking to them BUT there are times when I want to just come on and work on a room without being interupted every five minutes.  

Ok, what I think is likely to happen is that WC will just become full of advertising spam, people prepared to pay to have an add appear in there.
The trolls will argue amongst themselves in there for a while trying to feed their egos, trying to prove themselves to be the number one troll.
Eventually as they find they need to find pray, they will start going to local chats in popular places.
Correct me if I am wrong, but are you talking about using ignore to be able to have it so a person cannot go in your room ?
Or has there been some sort of room ban added I don't know about.
If it is the ignore, don't you think they will just delete and re create so the ignore is gone and go back in the room.
 
People have mentioned that we should use group and private chats and not worry about what goes on in WC.
Sorry but what is WC meant for, it is meant to be a place where no matter where we are we can go and chat with anyone logged into 3DXChat.
A place where new people can get help and information, a place where any player should be able to feel comfortable to go in and say hello to the world.
Isn't doing this going to take more of that away.
Isn't it going to be giving in to the trolls.
The big question is, what will world chat be then used for ?
If someone asks a question, how many are going to be prepared to pay to answer.
The fun conversations that use to happen often in WC happen very rarely now as it is, what will happen to them if we have to pay for each and every post we do in there.
 
I can also imagine how people in other games will see this, "hey did you see you now even have to pay to chat in 3DXChats main chat" it will likely be seriously laughed at.

Sorry but the more I think about this charge on posting in WC I can't help but think how rediculous this place is getting.
Firstly I agree with those people that have said it will kill world chat, at least for most, serously, how many people do you think will post in WC if we have to pay to do so.
World chat use to be fun, people use to go in there creating conversations that were funny and lots of people use to join in on those conversations.
Then the trolls took over using it to feed thier egos and it became a place that most people now avoid.
And yes the spammers then came along after rooms became popular for events.
So I agree, there are big problems with world chat.
But this is most definitely not the answer.
 
If you do not want advertising in WC it is simple.
Ad a rule to the TOS saying no advertising in WC.
Yes some may still try to place ads in there but they will be reported.
Advertising will soon stop all together.
 
To do that though you will need to then introduce something that will allow people holding events to advertise those events.
Ad an events tab, one that is attached to a well worked out event scheduler where people can place decent advertisements for their events and the rest of us can then easily go see what is on, coming up and what is going to be in these events.
You could even have it so when an event is about to start it has a promotion appear automatically in WC, followed by another when it actually starts.
 
If you want to do something about all the drama that keeps happening in WC.
STOP BACKING THE TROLLS WITH THE DECISIONS YOU MAKE.
