Yeah, some guys are total arseholes and think that sex is their right rather than something given. There’s also some guys whose English is crap and they aren’t sure how to start a convo. Still there’s no excuse for not trying.
I’d rather a guy said hello and tried to chat than random partner invites.

Ignoring the great tea bagged world leader there seem to be two points here.

The first, and probably the most important, is that discussions such as these are a way of establishing the mores, the rules if you like, of our community. The devs do make changes when they see fit and it is in their interests to take into account what we think. Keep us happy and their revenue will increase, piss us off and revenue will decline. It is important, I think, that these discussions reveal a general concensus for the devs to pick up on.

On the other hand there is no reason why somebody shouldn't use a forum such as this to show respect to a former member. People do it elsewhere. The problem, as I see it, is that there are people around who will use this as just another way to mess with people's heads and to cause conflict, disruption and, sometimes, downright harm.

To my mind it is a topic to be approached with great circumspection and restraint and, possibly, not the best of ideas.

Spring is here in my little corner of the UK. My first asparagus spear has appeared already, three weeks early! Amazing or what!

I’ll have to be patient and wait for a few more - boil for two or three minutes and eat dripping with melted butter. Totally yummy.

Music has been part of my life, like, for ever. My Mum sang, my Dad plays guitar and we always had music playing at home. My Aunts sing. My friends in 3dxChat know I sing, some have heard me. I occassionally front a friend's band. My husband is a multi-instrumentalist (mostly keys) and composer. OMG that sounds so much like bragging but music is, as Mikey says, a life thing. Something that's so embedded in to who you are that if it is taken away you cease to be the person you are. Life is no life without music.

In 3DXChat I love the way we have DJ's presenting a hugely diverse range of music, that you get to hear stuff you never would otherwise. That can only be good, yeah.

I remind anyone who is thinking of meeting rl that what works in the virtual world does not always work real.  I have never considered this a dating site and I would caution anyone thinking it is.

Having said that I can say that on another game I met and fell for a man who lived in The Netherlands.  I live in the USA.  After 6 months we married on the site and a week later I was on a plane to Amsterdam with a ticket he had purchased for me.  This was a huge step for me as I imagine it would be for most, but I had just ended my real life long term horrible marriage and this seemed like just the adventure I needed.  I loved the shocked looks from family and friends as I explained to them that if he was out to murder someone there were much cheaper ways to do it than buy an international round trip ticket on a major airline.

Any way it was great. I spent two weeks there.  Two weeks later he flew to the states and stayed 3 months. A few weeks after he left I flew back.  We did this for over 4 years.  Back and forth.  Anyway, long story short, he asked me to marry real.  I did not wish to as, like I said, just got out of one nightmare marriage.  I liked my freedom.  He agreed and was willing to wait.  But he did not want to do the flying back and forth anymore.  If he left the Netherlands and moved to the States he would lose his pension and his healthcare.  If I moved to the Netherlands I would need to leave my kids and I could not do that.

It was a heartbreaking goodbye.  So I warn any one who is considering this that it is so much more complicated than it looks. Again I find myself very much in love with a man from Europe (UK) but we both went into it knowing it would never go real life.  Our love is real.  That's what counts.  So cherish the moments you have online.  If you are looking for real life then find it real life.

Ash's post is ace, like it seems there's loads of possibilities. I wonder if part of Ash's post is indirectly asking us which direction we to go in. I don't know about anybody else but for me a bit of advice would be useful. I'm also kinda assuming that Ash has Gizmo's ear so if a coherent approach comes out of this discussion then Gizmo is likely to give the nod pretty quickly. Like something's got to happen, I don't think anybody wants to see the kind of stuff that was happenning over the last month or two.

Liek there's two sorts of trolling, the funny stuff - shall we call it 'Butt hair' from the vid that was posted and the nasty stuff, abuse. I suppose it coul dbe broken down further, did we once talk about three or four levels of trolling. Anyway 'butt hair' is OK, if a bit gross, if threads aren't derailed by it. The abuse we can do without.

Back to where I started - my vote is with users having post/thread delete and lock rights to any threads they start. Mods/Gizmo have full rights to everything (obviously). Kinda keep it simple then people will go with it. I suppose, like most software, it can be quite fiddley to achieve something conceptually really easy. Anyway what's needed now is to develop some kind of consensus on this, remebering, of course, that proper independant moderation has been ruled out.

There seems to be a pretty obvious point waiting to get out here. If Gizmo wanted to pay for professional moderation, he would. He has decided that moderation, even using people drawn from the game, is not something he wants to pay for, for whatever reason, but he's indicated that his preferred compromise is user moderation of own threads. SO let's give it a go, yeah. Like it can only improve things, like it doesn't actually matter who the culprit actually is for trolling, thread owners will remove troll posts from their threads. SImples yeah.

What we, like all of us, want is not to be confronted with abuse, lies, insults, slurs, degrading, demeaning, discrimination whenever a half way decent discussion gets going.

An oh and btw edit here, and very much an aside. This morning I've had a bit of a nose round looking for baiting posts, just out of interest and to make sure that I don't come out with anything totally idiotic. Anyway I couldn't see any baiting posts whatsoever, anywhere.
