I did not say that I felt offended, this isn't about me. I also think you are the one dodging my arguments since the very beginning trying to put this on an emotional and moral level when, in the end, you just complain about people that can't do to each other what you claim they are doing and just complain about not having the perfect world that would suit you.

People fantasizing about rape are not rapists actually. And that does not make them animals. You are being offensive acting that way, disminishing people for what they think.

No one here ever said that anyone asked for anything, my point is only that you should not drink if you put yourself in situations where you get hurt by others when you do.

I am only talking about you making the choice of drinking and then coming on 3dxChat and hurt yourself because people in here can fantasize about rape. 

Also, you can't rape anyone on 3dxChat. First, because we are not physically present, second, because you can't force anyone to do anything in game.

From my point of view, it is just you complaining about people doing things you don't want them to do.

Edit : You don't have to define who's a human being or not, thanks. Some people have dark fetishes, and they properly obtain satisfaction without anyone getting hurt. Having you claiming they are animals is very "against the rules".

People are free to do what they want here, they are not responsible for you putting yourself in a state where you can make mistakes and come on 3dxChat to get offended at things you know are there.

Perhaps you are more into descriptive actions than long, dense roleplay then. 

But again, everyone has its own standards. We are nearly off topic here.

I'm back from a long absence and I do share the feeling.

But don't write so extensively that your partner has time to go get a cup of coffee, either. An example of a sentence pattern that I use a lot is "/me looks deeply in your eyes while softly running my hand up and down your silky smooth back." I like this pattern, because it's not too long, but the two verbs describe the actions I am performing, while the adverbs and adjectives convey what I am feeling as I do it.

 

Don't worry about mixing the first person and the third person when using the /me command.  Yes, the sentence starts with your name, which in the English language places it squarely in the third person. There are many languages, however, in which it is perfectly acceptable to refer to yourself using your name or otherwise talk about yourself in the third person. So don't waste time agonizing over whether you should write "/me takes your hand in mine"  or "/me takes your hand in his(hers)." The difference is not that significant unless you are RPing with a grammar Nazi. 

Some like it though. Careful. Find your own way and see how your partners feel like about these.

Playing with good/better people is the only way.

And this is something, where there are different interpretations of the term Roleplay, I'm afraid.

 

For me Roleplay is exactly that: Creating a situation or scenario, may it be playing a boss in an office or sex with an alien in outerspace.

 

However, I have the impression that there are quite a lot of people in 3dx who define Roleplay as I would define Descriptive Sex, using words to describe the what and how, though not necessarily creating a situation or a secenario.

Well, there is simple roleplay : You create a situation/scenario

There is descriptive : You put your actions into words. The more the better.

And some people do descriptive roleplay indeed. Which is the two combined. That's what i like the most.

I'd like to add that those ones often play a character when interacting with their avatars. Which makes it the classic MMO / MMORPG kind of roleplay. 

That explains the confusion between players who come from online games and the ones who don't.

Hello hello !

So, this is the usual time i open the Quiet Temple (okay, i'm usually about 5 to 10 minutes late, but still.)

I come this time to announce that i will be taking a longer break than anticipated. I shall explain :

As often, when i plan ahead and start thinking that i will get more free time than usual, fate decides to make it the opposite. I've been sick two weeks ago, had to work much more for the last one and right now i must admit that i still need a lot of time for myself and people around me.

Now, i wanted to send all of you private messages but i am just afraid to forget someone, so i won't. I hold you all very close to my heart and miss you dearly. Sadly, i got free time by series of one, or two hours (which is much less than i need to have long and quality time with any of you.) So i prefer to focus on my RL things for now.

I will be back around mid january or early february. I apologize for the ones i was supposed to spend time with. It won't happen very soon. I really need to focus on important things and get my head clear for now. I will be back.

I love you all. Not only my closest friends or the QT people but the community as a whole. I've met very nice people of all sorts, i'm certainly not leaving any of you.

Hello dear everyone !

As some of you know quite well, i have been away for about nearly two weeks. First one was because i got infected by some bacteria and i had a lot of fever. I couldn't come online without a serious headache. 

As i couldn't work either, i had to get twice the amount of work done this week to catch up - since deadlines don't care about my shaky health - and i probably won't be done until next monday.

I deeply apologize for my absence and the lack of activity on my side. The Temple won't open Saturday but i strongly encourage all of you to meet or have fun. Don't wait for my - inevitable - return !

No, i won't publish them at all. 

Only the Quiet Temple members will eventually have something about them on the website when it is out, but right now, it's just about checking if people got the idea. No critics, no publishing. It won't go anywhere else than my PM box.

Hello fellow roleplayers. The Quiet Temple staff and I have been quite busy working on our future website, thinking of ideas to improve the RP side of the community and many others things (mainly others things actually). 

We originally planned to use those ideas and tools with the release of our website but it is taking a lot of time and i see RPers struggling to find partners all around so, there it is.

The Codex will be presented as set of rules to follow in order to RP with others people. Please note and remember that this is merely a suggestion and open to discussion. It is simply a small guide on what is and how to RP on 3dxchat. Strict In-Character RP just like we do at the Quiet Temple (or at least aim to.)

The Registry will be a list of character's names (game names, not actual RP names) of people wishing to follow this set of rules, wishing to appear on the list and open to regular RP interactions with other players of the community following our conception of the RP.

Quick and as less boring as possible strict roleplay guide

- What is this and why would i do that ? (Skip if you are only interested in the 'how to rolepay in a strict way')

Roleplay is giving a life to your characteur. Some people like it.

Roleplay is mostly seen as a way to create an universe and pretend having roles or build specific situations in general. Mostly to create the conditions of a fantasy we wish to make true to improve our experience in games.

 

Strict roleplay is this exact same thing, but pushed to the extreme. Here, you are not pretending to be a nurse just for the night, or a cop arresting your wife. Here, you create a whole character from head to toe, with his/her (i'll stick with 'his' in the future but it obviously can be anyone or anything) own personality, job, situation, family and environment. And stick to it unless it has reasons to evolve. This is long term stuff.

 

Strict roleplay is for people that enjoy creating a character completely seperated from them and use it to interact with other fictional character in order to create a story and to be one of the actors.

Now... your character can be inspired from you. It can be you, when you decide what or how you are going to play, but as soon as you start roleplaying, it's not you anymore. You are not standing at the Sin club, you are behind the computer. You are not taking a drink, you are typing on your keyboard that your character grabs one. You the player, and your character are completely different entities and the spirit of strict RP is to be as immersive as possible when you play your character.

 

You can argue with a character but as a player, completely agreeing. Just because you made your character a specific way for example. You character is like an independant living thing that thinks and decides on it's own based on it's "experience of life".

 

- How do i do that ?

Think as if you were him/her.

It's simple and hard at the same time.

You must think of yourself being your character, but only knowing, seeing, and acting as your character would do without the informations you (the player) have. And according to it's personality and way of life.

 

For example, someone pokes at your character's back. You (the player) know that it is Billy, your best friend messing with you. You see that on the screen ! But your character doesn't know that, so he might quickly turn around, surprised and unsure. That's what you want to write, because it is your character's reaction ; and your character sees what is in front of him, not your computer's screen.

 

- How do i play my character ?

Practical field.

It is fairly easy. First, you must separate the thoughts, the saying and the actions.

For the actions, you can use the classic /me. For the saying, you can simply write as usual. For the thoughts, you have different possibilites. You can use the actions system to indicate that your characters is thinking about something. Or use the * symbol to precise that it's not something your character says.

 

Examples :

 

"/me seems unsure." will give : "Elenn seems unsure."

"I'm not sure. *ponders, not comfortable about it.* Maybe... i'll think about it..." shows the part where my character is not talking but thinking. It also can be used as an action. It really depends on what your style of writting is. As long as your RP friends can understand you, it's all good !

If you need to talk as a player but doesn't have any dedicated channel for it with the people you play with, i personally suggest using the ( and ). Like this : "(Can i add you as a friend for future RP meetings ? This one was great !)"

 

- How do i create my character ?

Be who you want to be !

As stated above, it can be inspired from you, or your complete opposite ! You will have to think about it's physical appearance, but also what roleplayers call the 'background'. Which is pretty much the history of your character and it is supposed to explain why he might act in a certain way instead of an other. For example, someone that had it's brother killed because of a war can be a strong believer in pacifism ; or end up as someone with a particular hate for a specific country. Or both !

To appear on the Registry, please read the Codex at least once and send me a PM with "/RP" in the title. The message must contain a small (or not) RP description of a character you want to play (even just a couple of sentences). Just so i can quickly make sure i'm not putting the name of someone who didn't find my explanations here clear enough and isn't really on the same line of thought as everyone else.

I will not judge your character or criticize anything about it. Even if it makes no sense, i won't deny you access to the Registry. For my only concern is to bring RPers together and let them decide who they want to hang out with.

I'm just checking if a person can write and understands what this is all about.

Hello hello and welcome !

From my experience you will find little to no strict in-character roleplay here, like you could find in most regular mmos. What people here think about when they hear roleplay is simply using nurses or police men/women outfits during their fun time.

There a few people with a 'strict' view of roleplay that indeed use the in-character POV. The Quiet Temple is currently working on establishing a set of rules and creating some background for such players. It'll be on the table soon ! But there is also some themed rooms around like jails and such that allows you to have a decent fun as well.

Again, Gterantre worked hard on that new presentation. We are changing a few things and the Temple will become something much bigger very soon. We are currently writting a small guide on how to RP (the strict way as we intend to do) for newcomers and numerous other things. New rules for the place, more rooms open more often. Different kind of roleplays and all of this very soon !
