This is a much better system than is currently in place. I have played a number of games that are done this way and I think overall, it is much better for everyone. Some people are very good at hiding behind alts to be really obnoxious without being ignore worthy, and when they are forced into the light by having their alt openly tied to their main character, they are less likely to play that way. Not just that, but maybe having an account wide ID name attached to an account will keep people from rolling an alt and trying to seduce the person that just dumped them (happened to me a couple of times in games without this system, and I wager it happens here quite often.)

Why are these constant attacks on the role playing community being allowed on the forum? Why are moderators participating in the which hunts? It boggles my mind that you are seriously wanting to protect people playing in a fictional world on a fictional character from fiction. How about you just add a rule that forbids the discussion of your real life, that way no one ever has to know who a person is behind the fictional character they are portraying. No one can get upset if they can never know. Oh wait, I forgot... Some "real life" girl in Australia needs to know for sure that the "real life" girl in America she will never meet and she is pretending to be in love with is really a woman and not some fat male accountant.

This is probably going to be the dumbest story here but..... In 2002/3 I started beta testing an MMORPG called Star Wars Galaxies. It was my favorite game I have ever played, but due to mismanagement by the company that made it, was soon ruined to the point that myself and every friend I had quit at nearly the same time. A few years later a bunch of former players with programing skills got together and started working on an emulator for the game as it was when we all loved it. During the summer of 2011 that emulator got to a point where the game was fairly playable so I hopped on one night on a whim and made a test character. I let the game's software give my test character a randomly generated name: Eukro Gamun. See, I wasn't intended to do anything more than just look at the emulator's progress so I didn't bother with adjusting the character, giving her a story, a name or even alter her appearance. Soon after I logged in, I met a couple of people that caught my interest. They were role playing and I just couldn't help but play along. Next thing I knew, Eukro came to life. She had a story, a personality, wants and desires. I ended up meeting someone that pulled me into a different game, and for whatever reason, I just decided on a whim to bring her name with me. Since then that name and character have taken on many different incarnations in various games. When one of my most important friends came to this game, she hounded a bunch of us to give it a try. A few months later.... I did. TL;DR - It was a randomly generated name from a different game because I was too lazy to be bothered thinking one up.

Tundra and Rori. As for more "mainstream" fictional character? The character Friday from Robert HeinLein's book Friday. She was intelligent, open sexually, resourceful, athletic and loyal until given good reason not to be loyal. Pretty sure she was Robert's dream ideal of what a woman should be like because she started out perfect and ended up being turned into an annoying housewife by the end of the book (which I found eye roll worthy.)

People seem to think our wanting to escape from real life by playing a character different from our real life, means we are ruthless predators out to cheat them out of real life romantic escapades. I have seen role players referred to as "fakes" "Liars" "deceivers". I have personally had players hound me to give them real life information about myself when I wasn't even interested in playing with them. Guys send me PMs, I barely say two words to them and then they are grilling me about my real life like we are making a connection simply because I answered a "hi" PM they sent. So yeah, no thanks to the idea of having to verify anything at all about my real life to be socially accepted here. This isn't facebook, and if it wants to become that I'll happily move over to some place that respects my privacy.

I hate this idea on every level possible. I am not playing 3dxchat to find my soul mate, leave my fucking real life out of it.

I saw nothing wrong with any of the stories. Number 2 about the room mates seemed like a recipe to create unneeded drama, I don't care for deception like that.
