  1. I have this up on my profile page. I think it's really clever and a good philosophy on life. :)

From Douglas Adams (author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and other phenomenally funny novels):

“Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable. Let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.”

  2. Yay! I'm glad you finally put this up here! :D

Such a fun game, and such a great way to get to know people here. I've played it maybe five or six times now, and every time I have a blast and end up with a sore face from laughing so hard, or making this face:

Like Truth or Dare, you don't know what someone will come up with and a bad dare can really derail the game. But in Kinks with Friends, it's no big deal, you just pick your favorite one and move on, and no one really feels rejected since there's only one answer picked each time. Just the person who's answer gets picked ends up feeling really special, and positive reinforcement rawks! :D

And that line about how it usually ends up... Well, this is the face I have by then:

I'd love to see what other people's experiences are having played it, and what sorts of 'house rules' they've come up with too! Share peoples!
  3. Perhaps my favorite is from the Haitian: a bouch ouverte, which translates to "with an open mouth" but actually means "eagerly, anxiously". Kinda like how I do everything...and usually with an open mouth too! hahaha :)

(edit: I always thought it was French, but just looked it up and realized it's Haitian. Who knew?! Well, I guess Haitians, and probably French people too.)

  4. +1 for a deeper chat buffer. I always miss so much when I run to the kitchen to refill my wine glass and then I'm lost when I get back. Well, I'm lost usually anyways, probably because of the wine, but I'm worst lost when I get back. :(

And +10 for chat logs! Make them optional, and problem solved for those of you wanting to avoid drama. Or just don't create drama around the logs. ;)

  5. Well it is questionable is it real in the terms most of population think it is. It all depends on what scale you are looking at if you take 100 years back then yes climate is getting hotter and hotter, but take a bigger scale say before humans even exsited and the temperatures our scientist predict were then then it is actualy cooling off with this little small bump of hightened temperature. I would be more worried what comes after the increase in temperature as most of the time in earths history it was a small ice age. But then again, nature will have it's way, we people should stop and contempalte how insignificant we are to the nature (yes you can make arguments about how we destroy forests and such, but nature destroys us, Aid s, cancer, natural disasters.) we do not really matter to anything more then ourselfs and what ever comes of this global warming or ice age after that the nature will keep on rolling changing climate might destroy some species but others will thrive in that environment. 99% of all species that existed on earth are extinct now and we will join them sooner or later. In the end if we want to survive longer we should propobly consider what is best for human species, but in the grand cosmic timeline we do not matter at all :)

But it isn't really all that questionable.

Yes, the Earth heats and cools cyclically over eons, but human beings have greatly accelerated that process in the past couple hundred years. Left unchecked, we'll force the planet into a period of 'extreme' weather that falls well outside its normal cycles.

And this can and most likely will have some pretty dire consequences. Small changes in temperatures in certain areas shift tidal patterns and gulfstream conditions, which could completely redraw the map for us in terms of what parts of the livable land mass of the Earth are arid, temperate, etc, affecting crop patterns, storm systems and severity, and the like.

The universe might not give a shit, but as people living on this planet (and not likely to colonize any new ones before the brunt of the change is upon us), we damn sure should, and should be taking steps to reduce the negative effects while we still have time to make changes that will have a significant impact.

  6. Climate Change is a lot like Evolution. We have mounds and mounds of peer-reviewed, verifiable, statistically solvent scientific data that supports both. And then this handful of conservative nutjobs standing on the other side of the aisle using fear tactics, loud voices, confusing graphs and gross misinformation to 'dispute' the mountain of scientific evidence. And people the world over, but especially here in the US, are dumb enough to give these nay-saying wankers the time of day to preach their drivel, and actually listen to it.

And just for the record, if I hear one more person say "Well, I don't believe in the theory of evolution. It is, after all, just a theory," something inside of me is going to just pop and cause me to go on some sort of sexually-charged, despondency-driven murderous rampage. Actually, that sorta sounds like fun...
