Ihre Männchen zählen zu den schwersten flugfähigen Vögeln der Welt. Die Balz ist ein wahres Schauspiel: Der Hahn kehrt seine Flügel und Schwanzfedern um, krümmt den Hals ein und bläht den Kehlsack auf. Von weitem wirkt der Vogel plötzlich wie verwandelt, wie ein großer Federball. Seine Herzschlagrate steigt bei der Balz bis auf 900 Schläge pro Minute an.
