Anyone that has ever been to Absolute, knows that I have an affinity for good cover songs.
It is more than just finding a cover. It is finding one that suits the establishment, the genres, and the mood.
It is time to take this cover business to a whole new level, with an entire set dedicated to bands who know how to take a good song and make it harder.
There will be some compare and contrast. There will be some "what the fracks?".
You might love them. There might be some that you feel the original is superior.
You will have to be at this week's Little Friday to have the experience and find out for yourself.
Under the covers. A whole new way to listen to music.

Exciting news!
The website is about 90% complete. Now you can catch Little Friday (and the other sets I do) outside of the confines of 3DX. To quote from my first post on the site, "Well, I finally did it! After all these years of DJing in places, I have decided to make it easy for the people who are interested in hearing my sets on a more global scale. It certainly has been a long-time coming. I kept the site fairly simple as to focus on what really matters... the music. There are definitely a few things to check out though. First, stop by the Broadcast Schedule page to know when a set will be happening. If you don't see a set during a particular day or time, you can drop a note to make suggestions or request a set.
Next, check out The Black Cat Chronicles (as I detest the word 'blog') for information on upcoming sets, thoughts on particular music, or potentially learn about some new album or song releases. You just never know what you may find in the BCC. When you can make it for broadcasts, I have set up a quick button to get straight to the music. Right next to it is anothe rbutton for those requests that I know you are craving to make. There is always a feature to chat with me or each other while a set is happening, keeping the exchange as real-time as possible. I look forward to getting your thoughts on how this works for you, so make sure to check out the site completely and give me some feedback. Can't wait until the first set."

So... there was no Little Friday last night, as most of you know.
On the positive side, the Avs demolished the Preds, 9-4, gaining 6 goals in 8 minutes. (If you don't know hockey, skip to the next section.)

When there isn't a special event or music series specifically at Absolute, we are going to tackle rock, in alphabetical order.
Hard rock and heavy metal bands that begin with a specific letter of the alphabet.
 
Continuing on with the alphabet...

So, dig deep, put your thinking brains in (that would be opposite of the "getting laid" brain)
and bring your requests from the hard rock and heavy metal bands beginning with a B.

You have been a part of this journey, traveling Through the Decades, as we explore the 'roots' of today's hard rock and metal.

It has consisted of six weeks. Five decades. Amazing music. Wonderful people.

Join us as we finish this with music YOU have decided on. The best hard rock/metal of each decade highlighted, with DJ Rae on the 9th.

But first, DJ Vixen will bring you the lighter side of the hard rock of Absolute tomorrow, the 7th.

The Lake Will be closed from this evening April 30th through Wednesday, May 1st.
 
I am traveling for work and will not be able to host the Lake this evening starting around 5PM EST (GMT-5) through tomorrow.  It will reopen on my arrival home between 10-12AM EST on Thursday, May 2nd.

While I admit that my music interest in from the 2000's to present has strayed a bit from the hard rock side of things to some Chill/Electronic/Alt stuff (Tycho, Boards of Canada, newer Depeche Mode and New Order's last release), I definitely have at least a couple thoughts here.
 
For the 2000's, I immediately had to go with something from Iron Maiden's album Brave New World.  At the time it was such a welcome (and huge) thing to have the classic lineup back together again.  Initially I thought I might choose "other" and go with "Blood Brothers", but ultimately I agree with your option above:  "The Wicker Man".  It was a return to form for them, and a classic tune that sounds like it would be perfectly at home on "Somewhere In Time" or "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son".  An album I continue to listen to.
 
For this current decade, on the hard rock side of things I absolutely have to go with something from Rush's outstanding (and final) album, "Clockwork Angels".  The tune "BU2B" (Brought Up To Believe) is definitely my choice.  It's a surprisingly heavy tune and really gave that album an early weight.  Lyrically, it's about what you'd expect from Neil Peart......thoughtful and questioning.  Geddy Lee's vocals have adapted to time but his bass playing is nothing less than masterful.   Alex Lifeson sounds in full classic form with those power chords and harmonies.  Neil Peart, while aged and technically changed still sounds pretty fantastic.

They say, the only time you should ever look back, is to see how far you've come. Prudent thoughts indeed, but in this instance, it isn't a bad thing to look back at Absolute, version 2018.

Prepare yourselves for ROCK REDUX 2018 at Absolute, where we will be revisiting the Absolute events throughout this past year. 

 

Volbeat, Anti-Valentines:Rage Against The Cupid, In Honour, All Hallows Eve, ROAR, the Dualities and Trifectas, the Classic Rock sets as well as Covers, and lastly, the unpresented Perfect Storm.

A blast from the recent past as each hour holds a reminder of events you have (or sadly, have not) witnessed. 

 

December 29th, starting at 2pm est and running until all events have been redux'ed (that is at least eight hours), stop by and enjoy the memories of Absolute or... make new ones.
