'The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return.' I first heard this in Moulin Rouge, I don't know its origins beyond that, and I know it may be silly or simple or boorish or naive to hold onto it as a quote I return to at times, but I believe it is true. There are many beautiful things to experience in life, in our human experience, and love, in all the ways we discover it and share it and are surprised and thrilled and battered and changed by it, seems the most powerful to me. When we're each at the end of our journey, if we can look back on things and smile and say, 'I loved. I was loved.', then maybe we did pretty good, regardless of our credentials otherwise. Among the many lessons of a lifetime of learning, at least thus far, I do feel it has been the greatest thing I've ever learned.
