speech to text

Recommended Posts

Hi, anyone used any speech to text with the PM/local chat?

Any recommended software?

Is it easy to set up?

Does it work?

Anything where you can use both speech and the keyboard? So mistakes/edits and stuff can be quickly done with the k/board

Thanks any help, hints, recommendations appreciated

Regards Sputnik.

Nuance software is more for professional work /Like write down  article or something   like that . I spend a lot of time just to find convenient solution for chating  here . System must work following way : at first i select language ( English or Russian ) . Then i speak whole sentence and the  end of sentence i told the world [DOT] . PlugIn finish sentence , set dot in end and automatically copy whole sentence to clipboard . After that i could free to copy this sentence to chat board . And so on . The plug In for chrome need to download for free from Crome webstore called [ speechPad ]

For copy/paste and navigation inside virtual world of 3DXchat i using XBox One controller  which shipped together with oculus

Take a look at this:

https://www.nuance.com/dragon.html

It may work in 3DX.

Thanks xanar .... Yeah I have been looking at the premium version ... but I have searched for what I find important points like will it work for chat? can I manually add punctuation? can I edit with the keyboard as well as using voice? ... I don't want to edit or add punctuation with voice ... It would drive me crazy having to say comma, full stop haha ... I'd rather just hit the puntuation on the keyboard.

I would buy it if I could get some answers ...., be nice if someone was already using it ...

Last time I tried, a few weeks ago, the 3DX chat input box did not accept input from voice recognition. It is probably fair to say that it never has and never will.

So basically, you have to dictate into Notepad or some other text editor, then cut and paste into 3DX.  If you can already touch type, these extra steps are more time consuming and not worth the effort. If you can't touch type, maybe you will find it worthwhile.

Voice recognition is built into Windows, and there are several voice recognition extensions available for Chrome or Firefox. So don't buy Dragon Naturally Speaking unless you have a need that goes beyond 3DX or text chat in Skype.

Nuance dragon is hit or miss. It works but its really buggy and sometimes does not work. It works great with notepad and wordpad but for 3dxchat it gets all confused. It has a steep learning curve as well. Takes awhile for it to learn your voice and dictation.  You still have to use your mouse to click the chat box and press send. For some strange reason the commands only work sometimes with this game.

I got it. Can't say i would recommend buying it to anyone though. If you can find for free its worth it but its not worth what they are asking.

I gave up on it. Was big headache and waste of cash  :(

I personally found this site kicked Dragon touches ass for actual voice recognition when dictating.  https://speechnotes.co/

Thanks ... I can't touch type and I am slow typing ... so being able to keep watching the screen would make life a lot easier .... shame chat doesn't seem to accept voice recognition :(

Gotta copy and paste.

Just to copy /paste i using software which define keyboard key to XBox game pad .http://keysticks.net/site/ . This is payable  software 15 USD .  When i speak by using voice recognition (speechPad ) the app. automatically move text to clapboard , and i only pressed one button on Game pad just to place my phrase to chart board  .

I usually didnt take off Oculus during 1.5 hour . Bet i mount additional mic. to helmet . Because the internal Oculus mic. not good for voice recognition

Thank you, this is great advice .... I will certainly check this out ... I don't mind a small charge .. often it means you don't get spam/virus's if they charge a little :)

what I can say is: be sure Dragon needs some time to run properly as it has to get used to your very unique voicing and pronounciation. Still a bit of manual correction is always neccesary afterwards.

I am supporting a physically retarded female irl from time to time with her computer stuff and until now (years) Dragon was never running without any issues but still afaik best product on the market for just "writing" documents in especially in MS Word if your hands simply cannot do the job. Also be sure to use a proper headset then. Not too many Dragon certified headsets around especially when it comes to bluetooth.

Hope this one was helping a bit.

I will second this assessment, especially about the need for a microphone that works properly with speech recognition software. In fact, a good microphone will often cost you more than Dragon itself.

I will also add that Dragon does not necessarily provide more accurate speech recognition than the software that comes free with a Windows OS, but it does offer greater convenience for making corrections when working in MS Word or Dragon's own built-in text editor, DragonPad. That convenience, however, might be lost when dictating into other programs.
