Mick Jagger was there. Michael Jackson and John Travolta too! Madonna was stopped at the door. Virtually all the great icons of music, the arts and cinema were there, at 254 West 54th Street, in downtown New York. That was the address of the legendary club Studio 54, a disco that practically defined the concept of glamor in pop culture for the following decades. Built in a place where a CBS studio once worked, Studio 54 was purchased by Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, who inspired the place's former title, Studio 52, christened the space Studio 54.
