Perhaps all we need to happen here is for someone to commit suicide. Maybe then the issue will be taken seriously. Or maybe not. Maybe we will all just continue to play the game as though nothing happened. Maybe the tragedy will be shrugged off as something that was inevitable for such a person. Maybe the victim will be labelled a fool for allowing himself/herself to become emotionally attached in a silly game or for falling into the trap. Maybe 3dxchat will include in their terms and conditions a statement that absolves themselves of any responsibility for relationships and actions arising out of those relationships that occur within or because of the game. Maybe 3dxchat will see a financial opportunity and start a venture called 3dxdate. The possibilities are endless....

I think the issue here is choice isn't it? Or the freedom of choice? I don't think there is anything wrong with players being able to choose the gender of their avatar nor the sexual orientation of their avatar. I don't think there is anything wrong with playing 3dx with the hope to date others. However, I think it is wrong to deceive others. While it is a game the reality is that there are many who play the game to make friends and to have serious relationships. So there is the very real potential to be hurt by others in this game. I know that this has happened to several of my friends here and this saddens me. So I think it would be a good idea for 3dx to have the option, for those who wish to use it, of indicating their preferences in terms of real life gender and sexual preferences. I'd imagine that it would be very difficult to enforce and there would still be some who continue to deceive others, but I think it would be a step in the right direction.
