Afterburner will only damage your GPU if you lack the adequate knowledge of computer hardware and what your doing with settings and overlocking. In this instance I am only recommending it as a tool to get detailed readings of your GPU's performance as stated in my previous posts. Abbey ♡

I'd hardly call MSI Afterburner developed by "MSI" malicious or dangerous as you clearly imply. HW Monitor is a well respected, highly used and vetted piece of software. Anyone with a keyboard and google can do their own research on the official links to apps I have given. In your 25 years of software development you do not know who "MSI" is? Your being a touch melodramatic. With all your professional software coding (not hardware) experience you don't know that GPU's are designed to run at high load to give you maximum quality and performance. That using task manager as a stress indiciator on your GPU is all but useless because of this basic fact? Seriously is it that hard to acknowledge you don't know it all with a touch of grace. Tlaera "Task Manager" gives you a very basic overview of % in use of your GPU & CPU. And seeing how all but the latest GPU's run at near 100% load as they should be and designed to do. (The only time it won't is if your GPU is a top end card). Task manager is no help at all. It does not give accurate information on anything else. Like Temperature's of all your cores and GPU and motherboard, Your clocks rate, Power flow, Air flow, Frame rate and a host of other GPU information specifically for determining and adjusting your GPU performance. As an example temperature's that your GPU & CPU is running at during stress is one of the vital indicators used in determining and understanding an issue. As initially stated if your experiencing freezes and black screen, best guess is GPU. Your GPU is the biggest factor in any graphical issue, despite peoples denial. If you want the best out of this game you want to have a reasonable dedicated gpu. All but the very latest integrated cards will not handle this game well (Well =30+ fps) especially in high stress custom rooms. Remember this game uses the fairly new Unity Engine. Ssd's & Ram play very little to affecting the performance of this game (See Nikki's answer above). Having the game on a HDD and not an SSD will certainly not cause a black screen. If you want to know more about what is happening with your system I suggest downloading and installing these free software apps: https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html https://www.msi.com/page/afterburner Both of these excellent apps used together will give you a good indication of how hard your CPU & GPU is being pushed. I would initially say it is a GPU performance problem, but it is hard to accurately say when you don't give any of your pc specifications. Ps with the addition of world editor many players are creating rooms with several hundred objects and light sources, which is significantly increasing the stress on gpu's compared to the original default rooms that the listed game specifications are based off.

I guess I will go back to not logging into this game.

I can login, after waiting in the long login queue. However ingame everything loads slow, profiles are blank, animation lag, world editor is questionable at best with it's performance. Seems to me the server cannot handle the load. But thats just my opinion ♡
