Background: During WW2, after bombing raids, the British sent up Sheppard’s in Mosquito aircraft made of wood by Canadians. The intent of the Sheppard was to escort badly damaged aircraft over the channel to air fields on British soil. Sheppard’s saved hundreds if not thousands of lives. What I enjoy most about this story is how wonderfully well the writer describes in detail the story and the delightful vocabular used in describing it. Turn the lights off and listen to it in the Dark to better grasp the fear some of these pilots faced. Enjoy.
