SusanLouisa
(CNN) - An extremely rare yellow northern cardinal was spotted in Port St. Lucie, Florida, exciting bird enthusiasts and drawing in anyone who can appreciate a good bird photo. While there is no precise number for how many yellow cardinals are spotted a year, Geoff Hill, a professor and a self-described "curator of birds" at Auburn University, estimates the chances of seeing a yellow cardinal are "one in a million." SusanLouisa
Bees will take their nutrients from anything which has sugar and moisture. Feeding them watermelon if conditions are tough is a good idea because it’s got plenty of fructose and moisture! The photo and information is from Heather Harvey, a park ranger with the National Park Service. Celestryal and Vaughan_Rarius

Vaughan_Rarius
Want to make a difference, then planting trees is a great idea. Why are trees important? Trees contribute to their environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife. During the process of photosynthesis, trees take in carbon dioxide and produce the oxygen we breathe. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, “One acre of forest absorbs six tons of carbon dioxide and puts out four tons of oxygen. This is enough to meet the annual needs of 18 people.” Trees, shrubs and turf also filter air by removing dust and absorbing other pollutants like carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. After trees intercept unhealthy particles, rain washes them to the ground. Trees control climate by moderating the effects of the sun, rain and wind. Leaves absorb and filter the sun’s radiant energy, keeping things cool in summer. Trees also preserve warmth by providing a screen from harsh wind. In addition to influencing wind speed and direction, they shield us from the downfall of rain, sleet and hail. Trees also lower the air temperature and reduce the heat intensity of the greenhouse effect by maintaining low levels of carbon dioxide. Can you believe that people still just burn them down and ignore their importance?? If this continues our air quality will be ruined, respiratory illnesses up and of course we will suffocate. Trees are our planets lungs. I have personally planted 20 trees so far and plan to do more. Want to help too? There is an organisation who is planning on planting 20 Million trees globally. See here and check out their FAQ at the bottom of the page. https://teamtrees.org/ It's also a well known fact, trees, nature and wildlife help with mental well being. Let us all look after our planet, no matter how small. It all counts. Vaughan_Rarius
Want to make a difference this Halloween? Then ditch single use plastic items and use your imagination to create your own costumes and decorations. Dress up for Halloween recommends using "timeless tapestry textiles; adornments like feathers, leaves and jewellery or even ‘stuffed animals’ and the odd bone; hats, from the plain to the slightly insane." Use and recyle old costumes and garments. Try not to buy new and single use plastics. Use your imagnation. You can make a difference. On one side I had full make up/hair done nice/and clothing meant for school including a normal shoe. On the other my mom put curlers in my hair, painted my face white to represent facial cream, pajama pants and a slipper. Was awesome, did not cost a thing and nothing was thrown away. Vaughan_Rarius
LITTER From beaches strewn with litter to river chocked with plastic and mountain tops covered with abandoned rubbish, litter is a major problem worldwide. If you hate seeing the impact of littering on the countryside, there are several thinks you can. In the UK, there are litter picking events you can get involved with. I'm sure other countries will do similar events. You can educate family and friends to recycle and dispose of littler correctly. You can report flytippers to the authorities and please do, they are the scum of society. In the UK , Fly-tipping and general littering has a dangerous impact on the UK’s wildlife, with the RSPCA receiving on average 7,000 calls a year with litter-related incidents involving wildlife. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. START NOW, SusanLouisa and Celestryal
