The Earthwatch Institute concluded in the last debate of the Royal Geographical Society of London, that bees are the most important living being on the planet, however, scientists have also made an announcement: Bees have already entered into extinction risk.

Deforestation may cause soil erosion and, because most forests have been cleared through the use of fire, massive air pollution from smoke. Much of the land on which palm oil plantations have been established consists of peat swamp forest.

Not to mention the loss of wildlife, habitat and the beautiful views and sounds.

"The Earth's climate has changed throughout history. Just in the last 650,000 years there have been seven cycles of glacial advance and retreat, with the abrupt end of the last ice age about 7,000 years ago marking the beginning of the modern climate era — and of human civilization. Most of these climate changes are attributed to very small variations in Earth’s orbit that change the amount of solar energy our planet receives.

The current warming trend is of particular significance because most of it is extremely likely (greater than 95 percent probability) to be the result of human activity since the mid-20th century and proceeding at a rate that is unprecedented over decades to millennia.1

Earth-orbiting satellites and other technological advances have enabled scientists to see the big picture, collecting many different types of information about our planet and its climate on a global scale. This body of data, collected over many years, reveals the signals of a changing climate.

The heat-trapping nature of carbon dioxide and other gases was demonstrated in the mid-19th century.2 Their ability to affect the transfer of infrared energy through the atmosphere is the scientific basis of many instruments flown by NASA. There is no question that increased levels of greenhouse gases must cause the Earth to warm in response.

Ice cores drawn from Greenland, Antarctica, and tropical mountain glaciers show that the Earth’s climate responds to changes in greenhouse gas levels. Ancient evidence can also be found in tree rings, ocean sediments, coral reefs, and layers of sedimentary rocks. This ancient, or paleoclimate, evidence reveals that current warming is occurring roughly ten times faster than the average rate of ice-age-recovery warming.3"

I know that many call this an "Unproven theory" or "Fake News" or worse yet a "Hoax".  Please educate yourselves and decide for yourselves who is right.  What reason would Nasa have to lie to you?

Everyday I see people sitting in their cars as they wait for someone with their cars running.  Turn them off!!

Map out the logistics of your errands so you go less miles.

Stop using chemicals on your lawn.  Stop weeding!!

Place bee houses and bird houses in your yard.

Plant wildflowers.

Get a bird feeder and feed the birds.

Don't Litter!!

Plant trees!  A gift of a tree makes an excellent housewarming gift to new home owners as well as on many other occasions.

Respect and preserve the local wildlife.

Bring home the clippings after a hair cut and spread it under trees.  The birds will use it for nesting.  Do this only if you are drug free.

Stop using plastic straws and water bottles!!

How to Harvest Dandelions...

The entire plant is edible: flower, leaves and roots. Its taste resembles that of a spicier arugula. If you plan to harvest your own greens, make sure you harvest from an area that is not treated with chemicals of any kind. Avoid areas near freeways or public parks. You can find dandelion greens and roots in Asian stores or even in some specialty supermarkets if you are not feeling up to foraging. If you do plan to harvest them on your own, it’s better to gather dandelions in the spring when they are young (before they flower) and again in the fall.

How to Eat Dandelions

·      The root can be used to make a medicinal tea for treating digestive issues, gallstones, inflammation, muscle aches, and bloating. Add the root (fresh or dried) into a cup with boiling water and steep for 2-3 minutes. Add a bit of honey to cut the bitterness.

·      The roots can also be dried and ground for a coffee replacement. Once the root is roasted, it has an appearance and taste similar to coffee. You can brew it in a coffee pot or french press as well. Serve the dandelion coffee with cream and a sweetener.

·      Use fresh or dried petals as a garnish in salads and desserts. Young dandelion petals have a honey-like flavor; mature blossoms are bitter, but still nutritious and pretty. You can dry the flowers in a dehydrator or lay them out in a single layer on a lined cookie sheet and place it outside in the mid-day sun.

·      For a savory dish, try dipping  the flowers in tempura batter and frying them.

·      Mature dandelion leaves can be on the bitter side. Blanch the greens first, then saute them in oil with garlic. Young greens can be eaten raw in salads or in sandwiches.

Instead of worrying about eradicating the weeds from your lawn this year, think of the weeds as a free, highly nutritious food source. Go ahead and let the kids blow on the dandelion puff balls; they’re helping to spread free food for all.
