AlexRO Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 Hi everyone, I wanted to share a short story about one of my first deeper RP experiences here, because I think it highlights something important about how newcomers experience the game. Recently, I joined an RP scene with two players(M and F). The setup was exciting : a secret mission, spy roles, tension, and playful danger. The objective was clear: keep the story alive, flirt, and build atmosphere. I was new to this kind of layered RP (I had only done simpler styles before), but I wanted to learn and adapt. Things went well at first: I teased, responded, and built up some tension. But then I made a mistake and unknowingly broke a rule they had for their roleplay style. It wasn’t explained beforehand or I didn't catch it, and I didn’t realize where the “line” was. The mood shifted, and I left feeling like everyone's time was wasted. What I learned from this is that RP here can be very creative and engaging, but for new players it can also feel intimidating if the rules aren’t explained. If you want to encourage fresh players to grow into this kind of storytelling, there should be more openness, flexibility, and maybe a bit of “teaching” in the moment rather than shutting things down. I’m not asking for all rules to be dropped, rules make RP immersive and safe. But being a little more permissive with new players would make a huge difference. It would give us space to learn, to understand what engages the mind and eyes, and to eventually become better RP's ourselves. At the end of the day, everyone starts somewhere. A more welcoming approach would help keep people interested instead of discouraged. Still, I want to thank the two players I interacted with for their time and creativity. Even if I stumbled, the experience gave me insight into how much depth RP can really have here and maybe next time I will do better or have more understanding RP partner. ShadowBuster 1
