Recommended Posts

Just example one of many things I know some of us would have liked to see, decorations like books to fill the empty shelf furniture with we got. All quality texture small in size and free, why don't we get any of that?

https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/props/interior/qa-books-115415

Then we got doors we been asking for in ages now, also free quality asset:

https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/props/interior/door-free-pack-aferar-148411

https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/props/interior/classic-interior-door-pack-1-118744

Then we also get Pictures many been asking be nice to hang something on the walls, again free:

https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/props/interior/picture-frames-with-photos-106907

Then there also a road building kit been nice for those making small towns etc:

https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/small-town-america-streets-free-59759

Modular exterior building kit and urban props also free:

https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/3d/environments/urban/modular-building-165659

We got props furniture I personally think been nice:

Also terrain stuff:

I have not looked through all assets or anything, just don't understand why they're not being used if they're free for unity which 3dxchat is using, less something I don't know about some integration problems or what not?

True just so much where I don't think quality of the product can't be said to be a issue either.

if these are unfit to the game so  it can't been add into it, it's still understandable. otherwise this is the most dumb way to not adding any new contents in the game

Are these things for the current version of Unity?

Because as far as I have been told, 3DX runs on a version of the Unity Engine that is Years out of date...

Good point, really not sure. But shouldn't 3Dxchat at any case run somewhat newest supported engine?

It's not that easy unfortunately.

Taking your first example, there is the matter of the version of Unity that it works with and the legal usage.  I am not sure, but last time Gizmo posted the unity version 3DX is on, it was a much older version. "Game moved to Unity Engine 2018.4."

Doesn't mean it still is on that. but that is the last version I could find quickly and that asset needs 2019.3.13 or higher.

Newest Unity Version is Unity 2021.1.6

https://unity3d.com/unity/whats-new/2021.1.6

There are over 20 or more Unity updates since this. And, Updates don't always work smoothly.

License agreement

Standard Unity Asset Store EULA

License type

Extension Asset

File size

3.6 GB

Latest version

1.0

Latest release date

Aug 11, 2020

Supported Unity versions

2019.3.13 or higher

Secondly, you have the extension license which the asset states it has:

2.3.2 END-USER is granted a single seat license to install and use any Asset categorized in the Asset Store as an "Editor Extension" “Scripting”, or  “Services” (collectively, “Extension Asset”) only on a maximum of 2 computers. For the avoidance of doubt, Extension Assets are licensed on a per seat basis and may not be shared or used concurrently on more than 2 different computers. As an exception, build farm servers and virtual machine instances used only for running, testing, or building projects with Extension Assets do not require separate seat license(s) or constitute use on more than 2 different computers.

Sadly, it isn't just as easy as going to a candy store and just picking what you like when it come to commercial usage.

Unfortunately you can't just download and use anything from Adobe without special license either. You can't just take someone intellectual property without permission. Especially commercially.

https://www.adobe.com/legal/terms.html

6.1 Responsible Use. The Adobe communities often consist of users who expect a certain degree of courtesy and professionalism. You must use the Services and Software responsibly.

6.2 Misuse. You must not misuse the Services or Software. For example, you must not:

(A) use the Services or Software without, or in violation of, a written license or agreement with Adobe;

(B) copy, modify, host, stream, sublicense, or resell the Services or Software;

(C) enable or allow others to use the Services or Software using your account information;

(D) offer, use, or permit the use of the Services or Software in a computer services business, third-party outsourcing service, on a membership or subscription basis, on a service bureau basis, on a time-sharing basis, as a part of a hosted service, or on behalf of any third party;

(E) use the Software to construct any kind of database or dataset;

(F) access or attempt to access the Services or Software by any means other than the interface we provide or authorize;

(G) circumvent any access or use restrictions put into place to prevent certain uses of the Services or Software;

(H) Share Content or Creative Cloud Customer Fonts or otherwise engage in behavior that violates anyone’s Intellectual Property Rights. “Intellectual Property Rights” means copyright, moral rights, trademark, trade dress, patent, trade secret, unfair competition, right of privacy, right of publicity, and any other proprietary rights;

(I) Share any Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, obscene, violent, abusive, tortious, defamatory, libelous, vulgar, lewd, profane, invasive of another’s privacy, hateful, or otherwise objectionable;

(J) Share any Content that sexualizes minors or that is intended to facilitate inappropriate interactions with minors, other Adobe users, or the public;

(K) impersonate any person or entity, or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity;

(L) attempt to disable, impair, or destroy the Services or Software;

(M) upload, transmit, store, or make available any Content, Creative Cloud Customer Fonts, or code that contains any viruses, malicious code, malware, or any components designed to harm or limit the functionality of the Services or Software;

(N) disrupt, interfere with, or inhibit any other user from using the Services or Software (such as stalking, intimidation, harassment, or incitement or promotion of violence or self-harm);

(O) engage in chain letters, junk mails, pyramid schemes, phishing, spamming, fraudulent activities, or other unsolicited messages;

(P) place an advertisement of any products or services in the Services except with our prior written approval;

(Q) use any data mining or similar data gathering and extraction methods in connection with the Services or Software, including data scraping for machine learning or other purposes;

(R) artificially manipulate or disrupt the Services or Software (such as manipulating appreciations on Behance or driving users to third-party sites);

(S) create Adobe accounts for the purpose of violating these terms or for circumventing account termination or other types of actions taken by Adobe;

(T) manipulate or otherwise display the Services or Software by using framing or similar navigational technology; or

(U) violate applicable law.

Maybe they have a licensee,  but you can't just "Take" someone else's Intellectual property without expressed consent.  You can get your ass sued into oblivion.

From the Mixamo Faq:

"You can use both characters and animations royalty free for personal, commercial, and non-profit projects including:

  • Incorporating characters into illustrations and graphic art
  • 3D printing characters
  • Creating films
  • Creating video games"

As far as I have understood you can freely use their material embedded in commercial projects but you can't resell their animations or characters as separate products.

I dunno, that legal is pretty specific.

Don't go by a faq - this is the legal.

This doesn't mean other arrangements can't be made. But you can't just take another's property without consent and redistribute. As with Unity you can create video games, but you can't can't distribute them under that license.

I wouldn't fuck with Adobe. they have a team of lawyers. you better have deep pockets if you decide too.

Was thinking too that those sharing parts is in reference to using it outside of a game, like redistributing and asset sharing it as a 3rd party outside of game project itself. But of course I am not a lawyer so of course can't say for sure. That and maybe co sharing assets within development team where only one person sit on the license, but not for game itself. Would make no sense as a creator to cut yourself of from customers who make mmo or multiplayer games, since they're obviously gonna be more involved into using the assets once project is done in a finished state.

All the legal issues are interesting.
But there’s more important questions I believe.
Do the 3DX Devs:

-A: Know How to use these assets?
-B: Have the time and resources to incorporate them?
-C: Even have the manpower to do the above?
-D: Care enough to do the work involved, or hire someone to do it?

LOL

I am certain Gizmo knows how to use these assets and how they are version required.

If you have the right license, it would be a breeze for Gizmo to add. BUT, notice how the assets require certain versions at least.

This was the issue Curio ran into when it went from Unity 4 to 5. All hell broke loose. It got totally fucked by relying on 3rd party asset makers. it isn't as simple as it seems. PLUS!!! if they don't update their assets they break and you are fucked.

Maybe Gizmo will reply and school us.
