There is no good way to do this. Nowadays bots can easily pass for normal user.

Almost anything in the headers can be modified, like user agent and such.

On a standard website you will count the number of hits on the servers or look for suspicious country but the game client make a lot of hit on the server as it's a mmo, and there is no suspicious country as 3dx have customers all over the world.

You can't even ban some specific IP as hackers use thousands of different IPs today.

By the way, maintenance in IT isn't always something planned. It happens that a server get filled with logs file and you have to enter "maintenance mode" in emergency to make the server work again.

Why some logs can fill entirely the server ? Because there is many abnomarl connections -> DDoS

 

It's just some assumptions of course, i don't know what is actually happening, but there is plenty of examples like this one and having some unplanned maintenance happen almost more often than cautiously planned ones.

yes the server crashes often, it happens to me all the time. Yes the game being down for days is terrible, but you get compensated for it with free fake money to by drinks and gifts with and they add the lost days back 

instead of sitting on the fucking forum bitching why not just find something else to do for a few days  play another game if that is your thing, go ride a bike, go protest something, go outside for a while for Zeus’s sake 

 

It’s not the end of the fucking world if you can’t do the # 22 dance while others annoy you by bunny hopping all over the place for what amounts to in the grand scheme of things only a few waisted hours of your life

When you have to deal with people that have the intention to destroy games from time to time it is quite hard to defend yourself. A few other games have been completely destroyed in the past. As far as I know some games have been attacked and the attacks wont end until the ones causing the problems gets money tranfered from the game company. There is also a common thing among those people attacking that the best companies to attack are those who have any kind of porn/sex content. 



I do not know if it is an attack going on but I am as I written in the past sure about the fact that some persons known to be causing similar problems with other games in the past is now on 3DX.

I know you currently have all kind of maybe negative feelings or be annoyed frustrated  but The Developer Team feels the same but 100 times more cause their buisness isnt working due to attacks .

Imagibe ur buisness that earns you money pay ur bills and live is being attacked woudnt u feel bad  cause it damage you ?

you will feel bad and devs definetly feel even worse  i mean its their buisness and its not working making them lose money .

i would suggest we all be patient during this tough times again .

surely devs have made their own mistakes for not securing their buisness and that fact now comes arround bite them 

So lets try chill and wait for news when Devs have news to deliver cause as many said if there are no news what to come out and say ''hey no news yet '' no one ever do that 

Im very positive that when devs have some news we will get them ASAP cause i know their 1st priority is to calm their customers

Normally id be kinda suspicious considering, but if their freezing all active accounts, it dose lend credence to Gizmo and Co realized this mess was a bit too much this time and are trying to resolve the issues while maybe not apologizing for what happened, but trying to show in good faith they are trying to fix it this time.

In theory? Yes

Haven't heard of it happening before, but it could also have to do with the server they were using before if they are just renting out space on a server farm (witch it sounds like they were doing) and said farm barely did the minimal to safeguard.

 

EDIT: And if they were already looking at swapping out servers anyways, this response makes sense... why try to replace the broken stuff when your going to be changing away from it in a few months anyways? By just moving us all over to their test server, it gives them the chance to stress test it, and get it up and running faster, in the long run it is the better choice... will be cold comfort depending on some of those bugs we will be finding in the short term however.

Thats what i'm saying.

By freezing our accounts like that, it lends weight to this was something they were not ready for, and are trying to salvage the situation as best as they can while trying to make it up to the customers enough not to loose everyone.

it is something there not ready for as it a server she said has been in beta testing but there going to put it out to get us all on faster and give us all free time till the bugs are worked out which means major bugs of course there always going to be those minor bugs

the thing about DdoS attacks is.. there is no real defence agienst them.

 

even billion doller company's. sevices sometimes goes under from such attacks. company's like Sony an microsoft. or giant game company's like EA or Activision-blizzard.

witch have alort of experience trying to defend agienst thise attacks. yes even thise gets effected sometimes.

so people really should chill out. an stop attacking the devs i am sure they are verry stressed curently

Oh no doubt, plus we will be stress testing the server as well for them, witch will cause bugs all of its own outside of just the usual.

Like i said before... in the long term, their making the better choice with this, since it lets them test, and bug fix the new server, help alleviate the current complaints and unhappy customer base, and will probably be cheaper for them... in the short term for us, depending on the scale of the bugs (and knowing 3dx, there is gonna be some.... 'fun' ones) its gonna suck for us, witch is part of why we are all going free.

User data was not affected, however, restoring the game in such conditions is difficult and long. Our plan is as follows: We have a new test server, which is located in a more respectable data center. We will transfer all users to the test server to quickly give people the opportunity to play the game. If everything goes well, then all players will receive the patch and immediately be able to play on the test server. Since the test server has not been fully tested, players will probably encounter bugs, which we will try to quickly patch to fix. Please bare this in mind and please continue to report them. We understand that playing in this way can be uncomfortable for many players, so we will freeze all current membership time until the situation improves, all registered users will play for free until it's solved. 1 - what is a more respectable server? that the one before was not?
2 - transfer us to a new server if all goes well? if everything goes well ?
