It looks like a lot of work went into this, thank you. The one change I dislike that happened a year or so back is that rooms are sorted by the number of people in the room, which makes it even more difficult for your newly opened room to get noticed as it sinks to the bottom of the room list, where most people won’t even look unless they are specifically looking for that room. People will say it is about the quality and not quantity, and while that is most certainly true and some of my most memorable times have been with 10 or less of my closest friends, it can be disheartening especially when a DJ, host, and builder has put so much time into something for only a few people to turn up.

One thing that will help a lot, which I don’t think you mention enough is setting up a group and having members. Members will put that they are members in their profiles and they will also show up to events regularly which will get 20 or so people near opening time at which point more spontaneous visitors will start seeing the room and it grows organically, assuming that the music and local chat is welcoming so that spontaneous visitors stick around. Another good thing about groups is that it is not just one DJ, one host, one builder. You can have multiple DJs, hosts and builders, so then it makes it much easier to open every night and open consistently. Some nights the group may not get many in numbers, but it is still fun because there are still 10 or so friends that still chat and make it a fun evening. The problem I have seen with groups is internal drama that can arise. To prevent against this I think it helps to have a trial period for people before they become full members, in which time you can usually tell if they are going to be toxic for the group. Also, trust your members to host and DJ, as the owner, don’t try to micro-manage everything. Also, set up a private Discord for members, then members socialise outside the game and builds up a stronger bond. I personally don’t run a group anymore, but with my 5 years here I have been a part of quite a few and seen the rise and fall and continued success of many groups.

You also have someone like Agony, who also opens consistently, has a good reputation, is entertaining on the mic, takes requests, and also plays something different (blues) compared to countless rock rooms. However, not everyone has a voice for radio or even wants to broadcast their voice for privacy reasons, but definitely a unique selling point if you can do it. I have tried this more solo approach about 3 years ago now playing all different genres of music, inviting different guest DJs, to which I did build a following, but it is tough work doing that consistently, so I prefer just being a member or friend of a group these days and DJ every couple of weeks or so and really respect people who do this consistently and long-term.

Then lastly, you have the rooms that are open 24/7 like Havasu Falls, which is almost like an alternative to the official beach and if you are into the whole futa thing then Futacadia is always open. Obviously, for most people you are not going to want to keep 3DX open 24/7 or you have an old PC or poor internet connection which regularly kicks your from game.

Honestly, when it comes to World Chat. I rarely, if ever, look at it. Unless it is a close friend, then it is even worse receiving a spammed event via PM. If you do want to advertise, then at least be a little more personable and say “Hi, how are you?” and stuff first. Going to official rooms like Sin Club and advertising there feels dirty as well. Also, something that is fortunately very rare, but I have seen it, going to someone else’s room and advertising there... ugh! Also, if you are part of a group or you have friends advertising for you, don’t use that as an excuse to get around the 60 second rule in World Chat.

Thanks for your detailed answer. I think I agree to nearly everything you said.

Our published document was Part 1 of our analysis and in part 2, we discuss all the things you mentioned. And, to be honest, then we discuss the really important and effective things. All this "marketing channels" means nothing or better said: not much.

Agony is a good example for that, also is Bonnie Monella. They don't use Bunny Bot, they don't post their events here nor do they spam world chat. But they seem to be doing something right… and it has to do with building a community, with reliability and with some more things.

As for the room list: we found that spending this 300 xGold for promoting a location is one of the most effective things that can be done in the first phase of an event. And of course that is why the location list is sorted the way it is… ;)

From my 3 years experience in opening rooms with tons of ppl inside

i will say : Ads never work or better say they work for ppl t6hat tend to cold etc

So when u make ads and colders comes u already have chosen ur crowd

What realy works is having friends that like you and wanna come to whatever party you make

what works for newly open rooms is top you room via 300 xgold

i will give a example : If i personaly wanna go to a room i click open shared user catalog check the rooms pick one and go :)

No ad will make me go somewhere .

If my friends have parties i can see them by opening the shared user tab and visit them .

Dj parties its normal they do 2 ads per dj  1) when dj starts 2) in halftime

People that are picky with rooms dont need ads to see a room they wanna visit  they check the share user tab click and go :)

Why should they?

Because she flooded the entire forum with her shit. She made like ~50 posts of trash talk and insults in just a couple of hours. Including statements about 3dxchat deserving a DDoS attack.
