  1. I'm guessing DDoS, I noticed instability earlier today. Could be the DDoSer was trying different attacks and finally found one that worked.
  2. The bad rep and the history is likely because people hosted by them are doing naughty things, not that the host itself is vulnerable. You are right though, that a game that has reached this level shouldn't still be hosted by a dime a dozen web provider. They posted that they're moving datacenters. If true, then hopefully this info is already out of date and not representative of the current hosting situation. Edit: I meant a different kind of naughty lol.
  3. Gotta bounce, Cocaine is on way and my dealer wants to hang for a bit. Later nerds.
  4. That explains why no one's called me a Nazi in WC recently. I was wondering if I was losing my touch.
  5. You can't sneak up on Zuck, I don't even blink. /me Rollin
  6. The part that pisses me off is if the game does die financially because of this. It'll only prove that consistent ddosing works.
  7. They got DDoS'd. They're moving to a new datacenter (hopefully) because it has better ddos protection. If they don't then I'll be wrong about this. Honestly, the game has been as solid as any other game I've played up until the DDoS happened. I don't get where this "It's always been shit" is coming from. Honestly.
  8. If you think they haven't done enough then either: A: They're not good enough for you. So you should find an alternative. If there's no alternative then you're stuck. B: They're lazy and you SHOULD cancel out of principle. It serves no purpose to complain about it though.
  9. Sorry, just Jameson in tea that just isn't quite right.
  10. They have, kinda, they mentioned the DDoS, they mentioned the failed drive and the decision to migrate to an entirely new datacenter. They could have done a better job communicating that moving datacenters isn't trivial, but it's also reasonable for people to know this. Snick is right about getting the timeline wrong. I've been asked to give estimates on using new and unfamiliar tech and I always double what I think it will actually be (and about 25% of the time it DOES take twice as long as I thought.) But doubling the estimate to the public isn't a good option either, so they're doing what will cause the least backlash. Being quiet about it.
  11. Yes, which then is exploited by clients to get better deals and/or free stuff or special treatment. It's a dick move. I mean this in general, people do this all the time. They were spoiled and raised that if they complain loud enough they'll get the toy, or the car or the whatever. Then they hit adulthood and carry it over and fail at life because of it. Then spit the anger at the one person they know can't fight back. The one that'll lose their job.
  12. From experience, I can tell you that it takes much longer than 10 seconds to Stop what you're doing. Think about your next steps Wonder what possible ways the troubleshooting could go. Like is it in this switch? Is it the configuration of this router? Did we update the internal DNS tables? Composing a response email. Trying to remember wtf you were doing before you heard the MS Outlook BLEEP. So yes it affects the timetable. I once had a 2 point story that was specifically to estimate how many points my ACTUAL development would take to complete. I spent half a day estimating how long it would take to do the task. It's not trivial. PS: I'm not trying to being a dick to you. All you did was ask for a timetable and the question is resonable. I'm just giving a view from the other side of the coin. Getting constantly pestered for updates slows down work. The earlier angry statements were angry because the targets were spitting vitriol at the devs.
