Hi,
I'm a newbie to the game, but I've already done some research on getting my music into my room.
Which is completely useless, since I'm never there, but it's a good start.
As far as I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong), there are two main options:
1. Set up and run/host your own Shoutcast/Icecast server.
- Shoutcast is free for hobbyists, Icecast is open source.
- Difficult to set up, I think, requiring good networking skills.
- Limited number of simultaneous listeners, depending on your upstream internet bandwidth.
2. Use a (free) commercial Shoutcast/Icecast Server.
- Most free servers have transitioned to paid servers over the years.
- Easier installation, no networking knowledge required.
- Most plans offer live broadcasts (direct from your computer) and playlists (music files stored in the cloud).
- Limited number of simultaneous listeners, depending on the subscription plan you choose.
As far as I know, Spotify does not support shoutcast/icecast streams.
For now, I haven't decided yet which commercial service and which subscription I'm going to use.
Any recommendations are welcome.
Greetings from a newbie.
