The option is to view new content, rather than view new topics - I am assuming that's what you meant or I have missed the option you are talking about. Maybe you read EVERYTHING?!!!!! Apart from trying a more aggressive clean up (e.g. including temp files, browsing history, etc) I can't think of other ways to fix your problem. Have you tried another browser to see if it works ok there? If so, that would suggest to me that it isn't a problem with the forum itself but something local at your end related to the controls of the browser you are using.
