There is a lovely Haiku thread here but I wanted to open up our poetry to more than set stanza Haiku. I hope you all will share your poetry here. Two requests however. Share your own work., (or noteworthy poetry with credit given to the author,) And DO NOT bash any others poetry or ideas. Be upbeat and supportive here. Its a free form poetry place too. No rules of form other than your own creativity and feelings. I hope to see people here posting. We have amazing talent in this place.!!

This is not my own work. It's by Anthony Dowson but far too beautiful and poignent not too share.

In memory of my Da who recently passed.  RIP.

Remember Me.

© Anthony Dowson

Speak of me as you have always done.

Remember the good times, laughter, and fun.

Share the happy memories we've made.

Do not let them wither or fade.

I'll be with you in the summer's sun

And when the winter's chill has come.

I'll be the voice that whispers in the breeze.

I'm peaceful now, put your mind at ease.

I've rested my eyes and gone to sleep,

But memories we've shared are yours to keep.

Sometimes our final days may be a test,

But remember me when I was at my best.

Although things may not be the same,

Don't be afraid to use my name.

Let your sorrow last for just a while.

Comfort each other and try to smile.

I've lived a life filled with joy and fun.

Live on now, make me proud of what you'll become.

Shared originally by Susan Louisa in the Haiku thread.

Online Friends

There's a land where I go when I need to share
That's not on a map, yet exists everywhere.
There's names without faces, a curious place
A modern creation that's called cyber-space
There is all sorts of people with cute little names
Like Pookie, and Sandman and Rosebud and Flames.
Some are just snobs and some are real fun
And some of them just want to find someone.
The good and the bad ones, they all play a role.
Still each one unique, but part of the whole.
We talk and we laugh and wonder "Why?".
We giggle, we hug, and sometimes we cry.
We can not be heard and can not be seen.
Yet, there it all is, right there on our screen.
But look deeper still -- the most curious part
Is the power it has to open our heart.
To share with a stranger those things we've concealed,
Which to our closest of friends we'd never reveal.
Our deepest regrets and most troubling fears
The scars in our life which bring us to tears.
What gives them the power to reach into me
And show me the truths that I never see.
This must have been planned by a god from above.
There's no place on earth giving this type of love.
When we need some direction we know we can find
A friendship to nurture just waiting online.

For the Fallen
BY LAURENCE BINYON

With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

                                                                                                                              Model in Pearls

With ropes of pearls, he dressed me in

Hanging in cascaded beauty

Each incandescent rounded globe

Doing its sacred Duty

Setting aglow the naked flesh

Ripe with artful viewing

The Man standing near appreciating

Soon he would be pursuing

But for now his eyes were caught

Viewing through camera's lens

I may be his model for time being

But he wanted more than friends.

Then the angle of the tale,

was seen through his artists eye.

He saw each shape, each decorative pearl

Not one thing slipped him by.

Each gentle swell of her body's shape

Each curve of her lovely spine

The color of her almond shaped eyes

Her lips soft, and so divine

So carefully arrayed for his Photograph

Yet so much more there to be seen

Her lips, her cheeks, her lovely mouth

Her eyes such a deep emerald green.

Her long lustrous hair, soft auburn in curls

Flowing downward, a curtain of silk

Her delicate blush, upon cheeks of pale hue

Like creamy delicious honeyed milk

Her demeanor a shy, yet winsome lass

A mysterious glance his way

In that one instant, from her eyes,

It took his breathe away

"Not fully innocent, yet so shy

Her gaze, it said to me."

"This is who I am, how I am now

Naked, for the world to see."

"Yet inside my heart, my mind and soul

Is so much more than this.

A hint, a glimmer might tell much

In one sensual passionate kiss."

"I shall bide my time, sweet little lamb

Your beauty radiates true.

Its more than form, or shape or curve

That draws me straight to you.

Its something inexplicably there,

I cannot find the word.

But I shall seek what is hidden there

All silence but loudly heard."

love is not desire
nor is it lust
Love is sacred
love is a trust.

Two people connect
who am I to judge
Their souls entwine
that is enough

Lonely is this world
if we let it be
but love opens doors
between you and me

I give you my hand
but also my heart
Love is our guide
We just have to start

Love is a journey
Hardly a goal
Love is the explorer
That opens our soul

You raped more than my body, Mr Black

You raped my innocence,My Trust.

You took more than my future that day

You stole it with every thrust

You warped my point of view

You made things all seem wrong

You stalked me everywhere,No where was I safe

Not even in my dreams, your rape of me that strong

Horrors, and nightmares followed

Haunting me day and night

I did not surrender willingly

But with all that fear I could not fight

How could a nine year old child,

Understand your depth of perversion?

How could that baby girl

Find peace after your delusion?

Thats the trouble with no boundaries

You decide you can take and steal

Destroying everything in your path

The situation is real

And even though you are dead and gone

Your type haunts all of mankind

I forgave you Mr Black

Can you now quit fucking my mind?
