A Moment of Silence in Remembrance, 9- 11

I was in Korea, having done what i do best, the impossible. 46 hours none stop work putting a defense in a training exercise. After a collapse, I was taken to trailer to breathe when I heard the news. I thought it was a joke, but we drove back from our training to our base, into lock down. I saw military personal break down with fear of going to war. Others broke down due to the death toll, their loved ones that worked there and so some of us word to rally the troops encourage they were ready bring out rage instead of fear. A day later I found out my cousin, 2 years my elder forever my big sister was in the 46th floor of the second tower. She did not make it. I had to hold off my grief to keep the troops in high spirits. A warrant officer saw I was pushing myself too much, on the fifth day in his office i broke down.

My cousin was engaged, had had a hard time in school learning English, with her studies, taking care of her young sister and younger brother with autism and still found time to cheer me when she saw I was down.. I hope everyone takes a lessen let those you love know you love them, 17 of regret that I never told my cousin thank you for never letting me feel alone.

Thank you so very much, for sharing this very personal and intimate story of a day that all will remember who lived it and watched it happen. The miracles, the horrors... the lives saved and those Heroes who did the impossible and lived. And those who did the impossible to save others and lost their lives doing it. NO ONE who lived through this will ever take a day of life, for granted. Thank God, during what would become one of the Most HORRIFIC attacks on American soil.... our own pulled togather and truly became the Nation Under God. Angels live among us. And that day thousands were there ..Seen and Unseen.

Greatness, Heroism. All the best that we can offer one another..... came out this day.

A day of tremendous loss and sorrow. and a day to respect, remember in somber reflection... what it means to be free...... and to guard it with our very lives.

I was awakened that morning by the alarm clock.. 5:45  a. m with the blaring noises and sounds as the first tower was hitand we turned on the Television to see what was happening. I lived on the West Coast in California at the time. and from that point on..... I was in shock. Tears filled my eyes.... and prayers said aloud and in my mind poured from my shocked disbelieving mind. HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?

To this day I will never forget the people jumping from the burning and exploding towers to try and escape it. One of my husbands unlces and his family, lived near the tower area. They ran a pizza shop .... we did not know for more than 2 weeks that they had survived.

Another dear friend I knew, worked in the Pentagon. He was not in the area at the time. Luck had him miles away in a civilian meeting. But had he been in his own office? He surely would have perished. He has a wife and 3 children.

Dozens of other stories of those I knew were told in time. But the horror.. the sheer wide spread terror was very real. We had Terrorists attacking our homeland. And they did not care who lived or died. They stuck at the heart of our Magnificent New York city and the towers, symbols of industry and prosperity, dropped and imploded in on themselves in a way no one could have dreamed. It was said they were indestructible. They were not. They fell like a ton of bricks killing hundreds of innocent people from many other countries as well as Americans.

WHY? Why and how could this happen? As a nurse I had seen and experienced many injuries including burns and people from car crashes that had sustained terrible injuries, but NOTHING prepared me for this. It was so horrible.. I cringed as if I could smell the acrid smell of ash, blood and burning flesh.

I prayed. As many did, for help for those that needed it. I waited to hear day and night for any sign our loved ones had survived.  In our own neighborhood people began to take the law in their own hands, and gangs and men shot innocent people that "seemed" to be from Muslim countries now blamed for this disaster. Had the World gone mad? And yet.... more stories came from this disastrous attack that showed the best of humanity.

I began this thread for myself, and to encourage others as well to remember what was done and how we were changed forever that day. May we remember the sacrifices and that bittersweet love of our fellow man, that manifested through hundreds of acts of heroism and kindness that day. September 11, 2001.

September 11th isn't just about those that died that dreadful day, it's also about those that lost their lives after from being first responders who have passed from health issues after it all ended and those who still suffer from health issues.  They should not be forgotten.  Anyone that day that put their lives on the line that day to help others should be remembered.  There are those we'll never know that passed on that day in NYC because WTC had so many people that would come to visit it, it's great they're able to identify some of them, but not everyone has turned over DNA for people missing.

Remember these people who lost their lives or are fighting health issues and some of the very people who helped raise money to help those very people take a knee for the National Anthem stating injustice because of the cases going on like Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown and the city Ferguson.A
