Creating User Content...Don't Shoot Me!

I've seen where people create different items and submit them to the game designers for release to the public.  I hesitate to ask, but if I wanted to learn how to do it, what would I need to do?  What program (if that is the right word) does 3DXChat use?  Is it something I can learn at home or do I have to take classes to learn how to do it?

 

For those of you who already design, please don't strike me down for trying to climb Mt. Olympus.

Id say you can certainly learn it at home, there are probably a million guides in the internet how to do stuff with these programs, but it might be quite frustrating x)

You can learn everything on your own at home but you need the software which cost a LOT (speaking of professional software).

Prices go from 800 to easily 5000 Euro and more. Having a set of Adobe Bundle and 3D Studio Max will eat around 6000 Euro

(not sure about the exact price). Cinema4D cost around 800 Euro. Blender is free.

 

Learning by Video: Video2Brain, Digital Tutors, YouTube videos and other sources.

Learning in class: SAE Institute, Virtual Pix (just to name a few)

 

Software (standard):

  3D Modeling: 3D Studio Max, Maya, Cinema4D

  Textures: Adobe Photoshop

  Final video/animation editing: Adobe After Effects

  Game Engine: Unity3D (is what 3DXchat uses; free)

 

Several Tools/Plugins are optional, such as V-Ray, Ultimate Unwrap 3D Pro, FBX Converter, Collada, Nvidia NM plugin...

There is way more software available but even if they are good, they are not considered as standard (Blender, Z-Brush..).

I am starting a tutorial series for 3DS Max and Unreal Engine 4 (far superior, no offense), but yes they do use Unity. If you are interested in learning I will be posting links to the tutorials regularly.

 

Have to agree with Stu. I have been meddling with the free UT4 enginge and 3DSMax and even with my limited knowledge UT4 is far better. I don't know how much Epic would like their engine used for a sex game though :) hehe

^you can get 3ds max 2015 for free with a 3 year student license. theres no real process, you just create an account with that link and you get your activation stuff right away

Even more additional Info:

To join the Education Community, you must be either Student, Mentor or Faculty Member.

You may be required to provide proof that you satisfy the above eligibility requirements.

As far as I know, you can't use any created items with this Software Version for business

purposes (sending the items in for use in 3DXchat would meet this fact).

Awesome Mikey, I would love to see some of the stuff you come up with, and you are probably right about Epic not wanting UE4 used for a sex game..... that is why I don't make sex games but I do use it to conceptualize my ideas.  UE4 has some features that 3DS Max really should have.

The last thing you want to see is my stick men Stu, I am really rusty but I'm remembering slowly ;) I'll have my rig fixed this week when my replacement Quadro arrives and then I can really give it a go again :) all amateur of course but fun anyway :D

Lol.  I am seriously interested in others work.  I don't think of myself as being great at modeling, in fact it isn't what I do for my company.  Since I am the owner I do a lot of administrative work and I am the Project Lead/Environment designer.  So when you bust out of the rust, lets see some screenshots bro.
