Is there a foolproof way to 'find' Merge From File items?

Awry

I love finding and downloading all the inventive items people share, but there's one huge problem---whenever I load them into my map, there's no telling where they will appear...it's like a game of hide & seek, and so far there are at least a few items I merged into my world and could never find!

Is there some way to assure where they will appear, or find them?

You can to reverse load and select them, move them way high up in the air so it's above what you're presently building so you can find it.  Then if the same setting for day or night, cloudy what have you.  You can easily find them once you load the room you're working on.

I'm not sure I understand you...are you saying to load the item on a blank map by itself, then when I load my own house it will be there? I'm very confused.

as far as I understood MarMohan:

you can load the item you want to add first and merge in your room, this way you can select the item.

a very basic approach which I like to use is adding a 10x10 meter block in pink to the item... impossible to miss then :)

Ok, that's definitely an idea, although you still have to hunt for the item even on a blank map. There are some out there which remain hidden even on a completely blank map.

If you load the item that you want to find in the room you're working on.  Say a kitchen and you have your house built.  You clear all props, load the kitchen, select it all, raise it high then Merge in your room with your house.  You'll have the kitchen way up high so all you have to do is move it in place into your house.

I....think perhaps we have a language barrier here, sorry but I just don't understand you. What do you mean 'If you load the item that you want to find in the room you're working on'? Like I said, when I merge the item, it appears somewhere random, not in the room I am working on. And how would I load just my kitchen?? 'Merge in your room with your house'...that doesn't even make sense.

Does anyone else understand this explanation? If so, please clue me in. Thanks.

I think the answer to your original question is no. When you merge something into your world it lands wherever the person that made and saved it did that.  Once you find it after you merge it then the suggestions in this thread will help you to be able to find it in order to use again. If you find your prop raise it up in the air or put a large very bright box around it in order to easily find it again when you want to use it.

ETA... if you clear all props before you use the merge it will be easier to find it. Not foolproof but a little easier.

Agreed when people create things to share with others its not always go to be in the same spot as where you are currently building, so yes you do have to play a game of hide and seek. There is no real solution to that.

But what Mar Mohan is saying is to clear all props from your room, load the merged item, once you find it bring it to where you are building, my reference point for knowing this is where my avi and teleport pad are.

Once you have it at that point, make sure the merged item sits higher in the air than your building, that way when you merge your building back in the two items don't overlap each other.

Once you have merged your building back in, grab the merged item and move it into your building to where you want it.

I am not sure but maybe one of the tutorial vids may have an example of this, haven't watched them myself so can't be sure on that.

I understand what you're saying.  When you're merging a file to the room your in you don't see it.  The reason is it's either inside something you built or way off within the entire room area itself.  When I first loaded the plane in my room, I couldn't find it, it was actually inside my volcano, so I had to clear the room, load the plane move it over then merge my room with the volcano.  I'm now able to work with the airplane within the room where before I couldn't see it.
