This is probably nothing to do with the cause, but the only time I have ever seen something go black like that is when I am using the transform utility and enter one of the numbers as a complete zero. As I hit zero and before it enter the . so I can add the second number (like 0.3) it will instantly go black and horrible like ur pic. Like I said, probably not the cause of ur issue, but still worth checking if any items u have in the immediate vicinity of this issue are set with one of the sizing parameters to absolute zero.

Select the item, the click the transform icon in the top bar (Icon with 1,2,3 on it). The value you are only worried about is the SCALE value, not rotation or whatever. If any scale field has absolute zero, change it to something like 0.1, then close the window to save. It's only the scale field (size of the object sides) which is causing this issue, not the other fields.

edit; or 0.01 or something with two decimal places if u need it to stay extremely thin. I forget how low it goes down to, it does have a cutofff, but anyway, it needs to be at least zero-point something and not zero on the scale field.
