Would love to see roleplay channel reintroduction idea

Wonder what you think about reintroducing this feature but letting channel have chat range, so only people nearby would be able to see what you post. This in contrast to local chat would allow for people to roleplay without cluttering the chat in general, since be mostly people who standing nearby who will be able to hear the roleplay taking place.

 

Why no just Roleplay in private then instead, do we really need roleplay channel? Last one hardly got used, right?

 

Well think having option where you can publicly roleplay and let others join in on roleplay helps the overall atmosphere, but on same not some may not wish to be part the roleplay and not see it all over their screen. Giving back channel for roleplay with range attached to chat would dampen impact of clutter, but also make it more possible for more to Roleplay in same room without causing chaotic situations with overlapping or said clutter.

 

It could also simply be options in setting that allow you to see RP text could be /RP or /me in area near you, many possibilities but would really personally like reintroduction of the channel.

They did away with it as it was rarely used for what it was supposed to be as Roleplay and then when adverts with the HTML in WC was so much people used that to talk to each other.  That's what a group chat is for or the rooms for Roleplay.  I think people would much rather there be an adverts one then having WC taken over by all the ads they presently have.  Some people post to much and others complain about it because you could be having a discussion and then you get 50 adverts and have to read around them all or put them on ignore so you can finish what you were talking about.

As sad as this is to say, all the tabs for chat get used.  There are people who go into another user room or the public rooms and post for their room of the user room to which they're tryng to get people into.  Roleplay tab wouldn't be any different than that as sad as that is to say.

Well if chat have range to people close by you, it wouldn't make much sense for anyone to post announcements in RP chat because majority of room wont see it. The whole point was to try get it reintroduced as something that would work within certain range of the avi sorta like secondlife and world of warcraft have range some chat functions, that would make it so only those who standing around each other would hear it. So you on one end would avoid chat clutter roleplaying unless several stand together doing it all same spot, but also give more realistic and immersive feeling to roleplaying was the idea with my suggestion.

I really like this!  Especially the range part.

 

I had a suggestion a while back about an "offline mode" where people could only see you online if they were on the same room as you.  Totally different from what you're suggesting I know, but I like the theme of having the people interacting with you near you in the 3dx space.
