Does anyone play with a Vive and have it working well?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a Vive and I really wanted to try the game out with it. I read the guide someone else posted here and so was able to get it to at least play, but...

Even though I can get into game with it, it's so quirky that I really can't play at all. I was wondering if anyone else here uses a Vive to play and if so how does it work for you? Maybe there is something I can do to get it working better.

Well if its any consolation, the game runs crappy in Oculus rift to. Can log in but like you said, it is so quirky you cannot even play. Controls are weird. No Touch support. Can't really do much but sit in a stationary position and look around at tree's and stuff.

Can try turning graphics down. Minimizing the screen. Turn off experimental water effects. Avoid elaborate created user rooms and populated public places.

As for controls can try to make a custom control scheme with a joystick or something. the default xbox one is wonky as heck and half the buttons don't work.

When and if you do get it some what working right, It is kinda very headache inducing and disorienting. No joke, It is probably the single handed worst optimized VR experience i ever had. Every sex position changes your view drastically , to the point where its kinda nauseating. Every dance seems to pop your first person view off just enough so you see your body has no head. Simple things like a slow dance or kiss can make you zoom right into your partners skull . It is a total clusterfuck to be quite frank. The UI is terrible and the virtual keyboard has a mind of its own..

Goodluck though. can try this link. Not sure if it is outdated or not. Or of any use. It is probs the guide you already read. lol  http://3dxforum.com/index.php?/topic/4971-3dxchats-oculus-vr-works-perfectly-on-the-vive-guide-inside/

Ok ty, this has basically been my experience, and then some. So at least it isn't just me. It runs ok as far as turning down effects and things that part is fine, but the controls are pretty much impossible to do anything with.

Only 1 single button does anything even on a regular controller and that button basically works like a mouse click. Sometimes that doesn't even work and it clicks behind the menus and won't click on the menu at all. In addition to all the things you said, for me all menus that scroll, the chat too, constantly scroll up to the top so its impossible to pick anything or even use the chat. Using your head as a pointer totally doesn't work out either because if i turn my head to pick something say on the top left of the menu, then the whole menu recenters to where I clicked making me have to keep moving around and chasing the menu all around me.

The guide you mentioned was the one I followed to get it working in the first place, yeah.

I have oculus and it runs ok. Touch controllers work but the way you interact is really strange. Also it's very commom for the orientation to get all out of whack.

What ya have to do is use your head to point at object or selection and use A on touch controller to walk there or make selection. It really seems cumbersome.

There is a way to reorient the ui but I don't remember what key it is at the moment. Space maybe?

It also should be noted that you are expected to have a pretty powerful pc in order to have any good vr experience. Tho I'm not sure it's possible with 3dx. I believe oculus minimum specs is a GeForce gtx 970.

Okay! I actually found what was sort of the key to make it doable. It was from what Jessica said that there is a key to reset the point of view. It is space bar yeah. That key isn't mentioned anywhere that I saw. It isn't in the instructions unless I missed it. If there is ever a VR section thought it should be at the top in HUGE letters!

Being able to do that when I need to (which is pretty much all the time) makes it so that it's pretty much fine. Text chat is ofc still the hard part but I would expect that. I feel like there is lots to improve still but at least with being able to reset the point of view at least it is usable now.

Vr is still relatively new but will only get better. There are some games and experiences available now that I believe if people had a chance to experience them, they would run out and get a Vr set right now.

Vr in 3dx is a bit buggy and it's not perfect but there's many rooms that look and feel fantastic in vr.

I just started playing with vr on an oculus rift in 3dx. The view is amazing! Yes the interface is clunky but you eventually figure some things out. Here is what I have found:

1) Use third person or fly can most of the time. Flycam is controlled similarly to the regular game although it doesn't quite move in the same fashion/direction. I use a trackball mouse and the wasdqe keys. My w has a bump on it so I can find it without looking at the keyboard, and the other keys are right next to it.

2) Yes the ui can get in the way of what you are looking at. I found that when you click on another user to look at their profile it repositions the ui for that user. If you position yourself properly, say lower to the floor, and do this the ui will be up above more and it will stay there until you click another profile. Then just right click mouse pivot to shift right or left- the ui moves with you. I have gotten where this is 2nd nature and not that annoying.

3) My laptop is fairly powerful, but things do get a little jittery when I first enter a very busy room and start walking towards the people.

4) First person view is pretty great for poses.

5) The virtual keyboard is worthless for more than two or three letter responses. You are going to have to peak at your keyboard some, maybe a lot if you are not good at typing - that can kill the experience.

I have spent as long as 4 hours straight in 3dx vr without too much trouble. I actually prefer it to a monitor because of the feeling that I am actually there in the room. So cool. Hopefully they will add touch controls or improve the interface, but I am OK until then.

Does anyone know if the game will bring a real vive support, because, if it does, it make it possible to play it with windows VR headset too, for the moment, it works really badly, controller doesn't work at all...

you should be able to get any controller to work tho you may have to remap the buttons to emulate keystrokes.

Well I don't know, revive it's quite buggy, and generate bugs on other vr application so i finally remove it. Furthermore my subscription come to the end, so I don't want to take another one just for testing something I already try.

Can be great if developpers can give us some visibility about the roadmap for compatibilty of 3dxchat, because for the moment it's really not good.
