Log-in Queue & Streaming

So since I ve read thru most of the post in the server down threads ect. it becomes clear that most of you want to find a reason to held something or someone responsive for the recent server troubles.

Everyone who played a proper MMO will agree with me that Log-in Queues are useful at some point. So why is that? Lets give some Tech-Babble Explantation here:

Login Queues are usually used in server side software systems that have limited total resources and Quality of Service parameters mandate that the user is allocated atleast a certain amount of resources on the server to have an acceptable user experience.

Example: In case of an online game, each user needs a certain amount of CPU cycles and memory space to have an acceptable user experience (like no lag). So game servers implement a queue so that too many users don't choke up the server resulting in a bad use experience for all the users. So if the authentication system simply sets a "is-loggedin" flag after validating your credentials then the total number of concurrent users will not be capped resulting in degraded performance for the users.

In enterprise systems, such mechanisms are used for heavy on-demand resources like remote desktops, etc.

So queues are annoying yes, but they do something good aswell. In the past the users kept the servers busy by spamming login requests wich resultet in another crash until a certain point the remain down and need to be rebooted by a network administrator or technican. And that usually took a while. So the queues do one thing...

Imagine a Walmart and 1000 people try to get in at the same time. It will make the doors collapse and people are stuck at the entry. If you have someone advising people into a line and letting them in one by one, nothing get broken, nothing gets stuck.

So about the Streaming Platform you guys try to blame for the recent server crashes.

Now please someone explain me how someone who streams a game into some streamingplatform can generate server-side traffic that causes the server to crash. You just do one thing when you stream... you send a live-feed from your own machine onto a webserver on the internet (wich is unrelated to 3DX Chat) and the users that are watching the live stream there consuming the stream-platforms bandwith...

So how is that exactly related to the performance in game? Right there is none.

Its just a pulled by the hair reasons from people that dont know how the internet works. And seriously just grabbing forks and torches and run to the forums posting lots of bullshit reasons that causes the server to crash doesent help noone. How about we learn how things work on the internet, then think, then speak our minds?

Server is having troubles and need fixing: YES

Streaming & Login Queue Fault: NO

The only reason of why streaming can cause log in q is as follows

Camwhore X got 500 - 1000 I don't know how many viewers unrelated from 3DXChat, she decides to stream the game.

This likely going to cause portion of her viewers trying to find, meet, stalk creep her or just check the game thus causing larger than usual playerbase being online at  the same time.

More people = More waiting.

Can be one of the reasons, thus I have doubts we got 500+ users due to this ^^

"up to X3 better performance" is about frame per second (FPS) in already crowded places.

Now about the server crashes. We are monitoring the situation and will take steps to fix it. Our goal is to improve server stability.

About time, thanks for that   :D  should have been your first priority before mending and adding though, but hey better late than never

First step is you guys should think about upgrading your server specs, to a more recent CPU with better per core performance, and increase total Server RAM. Maybe one of the new Intel Gold Xeon CPUs. Or set up a network of servers together that run parallel with one another to ease the load off each of them.

That would be optimal I agree with you Ash, but how the hell would it work when they can't even maintain 1 server properly?  imagine 2-4 paralleled ones! it would only mean more work to maintain, patch oh and let us not forget a weekly maintenance for debugging and cleaning swapfiles    :o

Let's take a number, I feel like I'm in the office.

Funny if it wouldn't be so tragic, a word about customer support. It does not look like costomer care now. What about reporting via email if one of your servers are down hmm o.O ?

I know or read you use Linux as operation system, i belive Linux has also such option to inform you as administrator that not all is all right.

So i think we all want to have a statement what happend today and why the server or servers break down since nearly one week more then one time.

So dear Gizmo, Lisa or 3DXHelper, if you read this. We all like to know what happend and what you do against this crashes in future.

Regards,

Stefan

Edit: And again, awwfull!
