A super annoying glitch/bug in the World editor..

So basically I been messing around with the world editor quite often lately, I discovered one hell of an annoying glitch that kind of kills my will to even do more detailed things or care as much, and I think this should be on the first priority to be fixed honestly.

The bug is as follow, for example I made some sort of small object let's say handcuffs, a board with some text on, a cat's bed or even a keyboard to play in my house, after some saving to my room file, the details I made kinda messes up and I have to either redo the WHOLE thing, or just keep a separate copy of EVERY object I make and to keep merging them all together the entire time, and I have to check all the time if anything that has small objects messes up for that god damn glitch, just today I noticed the rifle I made and spent 2 days with many hours on, just kinda messes up as some objects conflicts and flickers together or just not placed as they were suppose to be, and other things as well, such as the piano keys, my in room keyboard buttons etc.

Please fix it. I don't want to keep a copy of every single part or object I make that contains small details, and to see them fuck up every time I save the room file..

I hope Gizmo or someone of the devs look into this..

Well this will never happen by it self... i got the same problem and i discovered how it really happens.

sometimes when you are clicking on the screen on an empty space with no objects or you are trying to move some items around the object it by mistake takes it out of its place which is annoying and needs a solution which i suggested in another thread is to add "lock object" option to enable us to lock things in its places without it moving no matter what so just be careful where you click with your mouse and its a better idea to do each creation solely and then combine / merge them into your room!

Have a nice day!

Happens to me too... A LOT.

Especially with letters or very small and detailed objects. Square objects tend to move a tiny bit or resize, cirlce and quarter circle objects do that too but also rotate a tiny bit, making it extremely annoying to fix. From what I experienced in my builds this happens everytime you close the editor, and sums up a lot after a while.

The workarounds I do are:

- if you have a very detailed object like that sniper rifle above or in my case mostly letters and signs: build them big-ass big and save them in a separate file. Making them big-ass big (e.g. a bike would be saved in a 30m version) prevents the original file to misalign. If you are careful enough with that file and won't do additional works on it, this is not needed.

- everytime I am done with building for the day I save the work and load it fresh the next day. This prevents the multiplication of misalignments.

You are so right, SniperGirl, I have the same problems, and, sorry JuicyJina, it happens by itself and may happen as a user's fault, as you describe, in addition to that. To avoid this I always have snapping on by default, at least set to 0.1m and 5° and only switch it off when these steps are too coarse, but nevertheless small parts "move", I think whenever the system recalculates their position, so it's probably a culmination of rounding errors or similar.

It's pretty annoying that I spend hours to make something neat and pretty the way I want it to look, and then after some saves, the objects moves randomly around on different directions and they slowly start to look really ugly and not the way I wanted it to look like.. This is slowly killing my mood when I see it happens, and I'd rather see a fix for it instead of the coming lights fix..

For example:

This was a neat looking organized keyboard I had in my room for a while and it was all perfect and amazing just like a real one..

Now it looks like this:

fdf4102e41.png

You can see the objects just messing around and move as they please making things looks like broken.

I can't fix this part now as I didn't have a copy of it, and I didn't know this bug existed, and it's extremely annoying to fix small objects like that with the world editor's camera.

@Veronique: I do have a copy now of the things I made already on giant versions, like the sniper rifle for example and other things, I'm talking about things as the keyboard I made for example, that is like too late to fix now.

I really don't want to depend on that workaround solution of saving objects on separate files, I'd like to see this fixed and taken care of.  :(

That bug is why I had to abandon a large build of mine, lots of small details, and every time I loaded it in, something shifted.

A friend of mine said it might be the way 3DX rounds off the location coordinates, making tiny objects shift a pixel here and there.

It doesn't become apparent on larger objects but fucks up intricate detail.

Yes, am absolutely with you there... There is a bug in the world editor that needs fixing. But then, this is 3dx, where bug fixes come months late, if ever. So for now, workarounds are the only thing we can rely on.

So Basically.. I will have to like.. re-scale everything that messes up to giant size.. fix it up.. save it in separate file.. and keep a back up file of where I place it, and whenever it messes up to reload that part.. *sighs* this is going to be pain in the as to fix every button on that keyboard..

I experience this bug mainly when writing something on objects, e.g. the registration sign on my helicopters or the Police boat and stuff. Of course I try to make the letters and numbers as flush as possible to the surface. After some other work on the same item, you see parts of the numbers and letters disappear in the surface, which is obvious immediately.

As long as this bug is not fixed, the only workaround in these cases is to let the lettering protude out of the surface more than necessary to keep parts of them from disappearing.

I was told "ungrouping" grouped objects prevent this bug from happening and causing the small objects to shift and move around.. But I didn't test that yet, I need to fix some stuffs out because of this and I will test it, to see if it actually works.. Ugh. I shouldn't even be even fixing things if this was working properly, It's just me and my obsession on perfection and details.. Lol.

This problem is a huuuuuuuuuuuge pain in tha ass. Ah feels ya SniperGirl, I too am obsessed with everyting being perfectly aligned.

I am noticing this only happens when you actually load a room, ie you have a different room and then you select load room file. For me I always have tha ocean gone, set at like             -20000 so eets in another universe but on loading a room from file eets back and that's when I get these shifts in props. Grrrrrrrrr Hith Hith Swipe!

Saving the "object" as a group when eets all perfect and to file is easy enough to load eet back in but this needs to be fixed.

That pic of your keyboard reminds me of a Novation Luanchpad ah made for my DJ Dex and the pushpads kept moving out of alignment and I had to fix that like 8 times Uuuugh!

I'm sure this prolly will never be fixed so backing up every object we make is tha only ways. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Please let us know if indeeds ungrouping hilps coz building becomes sad when you see your hours of intense lazer focus get trashed in a second BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO again!

By tha way nicely built Shooter that ting looks on point XD

Hahaha, I'm glad you liked it, it was a challenge to make though, and I always wanted a sniper rifle in 3dx since 3 years ago. xD

But yeah really this bug needs a serious fix it's killing my will power to make things when I see them mess up after some saves and loads, sadly I'm getting really addicted to world editor.. Lol.

and the ungrouping seems to really not make any difference they still mess up and I have to load/merge files I saved before I reload the room, which is really another let down.

You should come visit my room sometimes, I have so many fun things to see and so much things to laugh on. you will not get bored. I usually open it for friends hanging out the most, I try to stay away of opening it for the public.  ^_^

Also this.. I do the exact same thing as I use your letters, and after a while they are like fade away as they move deeply inside the objects.. it's hardly noticeable on big objects though.. but I try to make tools or details scaled on the character's size..

How can I reproduce this bug? Save world to file and then load it from file, right?

Yes that way, and probably only "saving the file" mess with the (Already) loaded room as well. it may not appear to be noticeable on bug objects but it does on small objects.

Its odd though because I think things might re-scale when they are not being rendered. Definitely though every time something is saved things re-scale a bit. I think they are re-scaling and not moving but I am not fully sure they might be doing both but they are re-scaling for sure.

I did some testing and it seems what is happening is that every time the room is saved the position, rotation, scale, and color values all can change by one digit.

two_Boxes.png

This image is two boxes side by-side and nothing else in the room after being saved and loading. The values that changed are in gray.

one_Box.png

This image is a single box in a room after being rotated at an arbitrary angle. The values that changed are in gray after saving and loading a number of times.

Thank you so much for finding where exactly the bug is! This should be quite clear and obvious why the objects keep slipping around randomly.
