Actively moderating

 

Having a team of active, or reliably semi-active, moderators is extremely important. Active means that problems get fixed quickly, users are responded to, and issues are discussed and resolved behind the scenes.

 

Jumping on problems as they arise is good because

– people know where the lines are and can stay within them (boundaries)

– people know that if they go too far, a moderator will fix it (safety net)

– people know that other people will not be allowed to go too far (community safety)

 

Consistent, active moderating is necessary because

– exceptions will encourage more to follow, out of confusion or out of rules lawyering

– favouritism or perceived favouritism upsets people

– inconsistent moderating means people don’t know where the boundaries are, leading to insecurity

 

For example:

If moderators suddenly delete a thread, the community generally reacts with shock. If moderators regularly delete threads, the community feels censored and oppressed, But if the moderators a warn, and b only delete when necessary, the community generally shrugs and moves on, or actively calls for threads to remain open or be deleted.

 

And if someone steps over a line, they know that a moderator will stop them going further, as do other people. Moderators should have consistent responses in place; a warning, a followup final warning, thread locking, comment edits, temporary bans, permanent bans. Users should not be surprised or confused about why any of these things have happened, and moderators should be able to follow a consistent pattern of responses reasonably quickly (but with the freedom to modify this approach as necessary).

If the forums were moderated properly half the stuff that gets posted on here would be deleted before it gets off the ground and the usual people who derail threads and turn them into slanging matches would have been banned long ago. But its not how things happen, threads get derailed and go on for 50+ pages of slanging matches, and the children get to play, sitting there proud of their achievements on forum of about 300 active users( might be an exaggeration) on a little known sex game.

I’ve just looked and there were 8 members, 71 guests and 2 anonymous users in the community site in the last 15 minutes, which includes the forums. How many of those 71 guests aren’t going to join 3dx because of what they see here. Like 71 in 15 minutes is 284 an hour, 6816 a day. How many of those are put off joining what is amongst the best social interaction games around because of the activities of a few trolls, bullies or whatever you want to call them.

Exactly why members of forum should take personal arguments and quarrels to PM or ignore each other.

We want the forum community to grow, not to get the reputation that this is where all the drama is.

 

We are all adults so why do I feel its a kintergarden at times.

In face I might start trolling pics of playgrounds to the next thoughtless idiots who start bumping their gums.

 

I dont want to read the hostility and bitchy comments. I couldnt give a toss who starts it or why its continuing. I dont care and neither does anyone else. Sort it out behind the scenes in PM or just ignore each other ffs!

 

I like to read a good, well reasoned debate whether I agree with it or not.  It's how we learn and tolerate and work out compromises.

I like to read good stories or poems

I like to look at good sensual art and porn.

I like to read about things that teach members about their practices, their escapades and funny times.

All these things are here, if you look.

Thats what forum is about.

 

So stop the bitching.

I agree with Vaughn, but at the same time people need to be more responsible about what topics they post, with some thought about how some people will respond to them.

I TOTALLY AGREE!.  This drama and crap needs to be kept out of a public arena. We, most of us come here to envelope ourselves in fantasy and have fun. Not to hear and read all this negative spamming and crap. There are a number of people that SHOULD read this and take note and discontinue their crap. If they have a beef with someone, Settle it outside of a PUBLIC FORUM!
