Not gonna bite, not gonna bite... Dammit...

Nice sentiment but psychologically and physiologically unlikely in terms of sexual attraction. Friendship is different but the human animal actually evaluates a mate almost entirely on appearance and within the first few seconds. Now that attraction can be based on a whole variety of different sensory cues as to compatibility as a mate other than just being pretty/handsome but it's all about the gene pool. We have much less rational control than we think.

Now granted there may be other reasons people get together but you can't simply dismiss biochemistry as being shallow.

Someone please put the catch down on my toybox

I am sorry you feel that everyone evaluates on appearance. I for one do not and do not group me with the shallow people that do. There are many people that are able to look past this outer shell and get to know the real person. In a game like this, it is what we do as we are not able to see each other face to face. Very seldom have I ever had anyone ask what I look like. More to the point, we really don't care that much as we are not looking to meet them for real, but to enjoy them here.

Yes to a degree we all look at someone's appearance and make judgments, but the smart people know that the outer shell is not what makes a person. I could find the sexiest guy ever and he could be a total ass, but I could find someone who is not that attractive and he could be the greatest guy ever. If people are smart they will look to a persons heart and see them as they are. If you truly like that person, you will find them attractive.

We actually have more control over our thoughts and emotions then you give people credit for.  It is those who choose to not control them that you see and refer too.

Maybe your experiences are different, but I rather take a positive approach and not group everyone in the shallow pool. Not everyone is shallow like that, there are genuine people who will take the time to get to know a person.

There are several reasons why people do not post personal information about themselves on these sorts of forums

1. If you want to excel in a career it is highly recommended you never post anything personal about your self in theses sort of forums, future employers can take a simple picture of you and do a search, pulling up every thing linked to it on the internet, rule of thumb is once it is on the net it stays on the net and will be held against you.

2. Basic truth is Females fall victim to a lot more than males in this world, from cyber stalking, jealous lovers seeking out revenge, internet tough guys and their pseudo-masculine personalities trying to push us around (Even in this game I been threaten to been found in real life already and raped as well as it been posted some one wanted to break my fucking arms). I been around for about a decade in these sorts of venues, seen drama destroy lives, seen guys take losing a lover in a game to the point they would call a woman's work place as well as her family members to let them know what she was doing.

You all can complain all you want about it is not fair this and that but unit you had to worry about drinking a little too much at a party and getting raped by some horny guy and his friends, you issues and problems are truly very little. You want to know of the person is true or not than spend time talking to them get to know them invite them to Skype calls, don't take any thing in game or on the forums as face value.

I agree with everything you said, Eroaulon, and you have presented a good summary of some important issues in Internet Safety. But in fairness to the OP, I think he was originally making a very similar point: That some people post photos in an attempt to create a false identity, which they use to harass or deceive unwary players.

I know a lot of people have written a lot of stuff here that has basically veered off topic, but this thread actually contains a lot of food for thought, especially for those who don't fully understand the fantasy element of 3DX and basically present themselves as the are in real life.

That's is one way to play the game, but I think it is also important not to assume that everyone is supposed to play the game that way.

This topic, and the one about multiple avatars actually discuss a very similar issues. The way I see it there are basically two main types of players in here: players who are here for virtual sex play and who present themselves as real and expect the same from others, and people who are here for sex ROLEplay and like to try out different phantasies and don't mind whether the persona they interact with overlaps with someone in the real world.

Those two types of community will inevitably clash, because the desire of the first group to have virtual sex with real people clashes with the need of others to live out and express different aspects of their imagination. Likewise, there may be different reasons not to use your real picture in these forums, like Doll and Eroaulon say, that are unimportant to the first group.

I think the desire to only interact with real personas in a role-playing game is naive and detrimental to the experience, but that's just my view on it and certainly not gospel. On the other hand, I think people -like myself- that use multiple avatars should at least be using them in a harmless way and not to play mind-games on others. Using model pictures a a forum avatar picture and presenting it as your true self is simply dishonest.

God, that was a rambling mess. Sorry for derailing the topic, back to the regular discussion. :)

Ok boys and girls, lets stir it up a bit.. WHY THE FAKE PROFILE PICS AND FAKE PICS EMBEDED ONTO YOUR PROFILE PAGE?

I have never understood it. Do you expect us to believe its really you? I have been doing to experimenting, some might call it stalking haha, and you would be surprised what google image search has revealed! Not going to name names but one 'girl' from Europe is using a Canadian models pics, that's the best I have found so far, apart from being directed to numerous porn sites. There are also 2 'girls' using the same profle picture of a hottie! Maybe its the same person with 2 accounts, I don't know, but anyway that pic directs to a number of porn sites!

Now before you all bite my head off... I have nothing against people wanting to hide their real selves on their profiles. Many of you use animals, or cartoon pic, which is totally cool. And I also know a few of you that do use real pics, so this doesn't apply to you (you know who you are).

So my question is... Is it acceptable for people to use pictures of real people to give the impression its them?

I guess it kind of boils down to what you want out of this game. If you are looking to build a relationship which extends beyond the game, then I more then see your point Macca. But most people who are here stay for a month, and move on. So like someone had previously stated, they google "hit chick" found an older selfie of someone and threw it up as their image.

The ones like us who stay much longer are looking for something ... else. Be it a romantic relationship which could POSSIBLY extend beyond the game. Or something a little smaller and just looking for friendship to fill a certain void in their life, who knows. But my point is this. Its people like that, who DO get offended. They feel lied to. Very similar to the people off of the show "catfish". Because in a way, that is what just happened.Just in a little smaller scale on here.

Anyway, thats just my 2cents about this all.

Well,I for one would rather not misrepresent myself to others.I dont use my picture on the forums as I am inscure about my appearance.Instead,I use a symbol that I feel represents myself and my beliefs.Id not be against sharing my real picture with someone, but they damn well will get to know me first.

Sure, making others think you are someone you are not is creepy.

Myself, I wish to remain anonymous in the public domain for my own good reasons. I started out using this recent pic of me as my profile pic:

post-2117-0-61552500-1409509253_thumb.jpg

The Monty Python "Reg Gumby" character I now use as my profile pic is of course an improvement though is not me, and is some sort of 1960's comedy stereotype for a middle-age, working-class englishman. Yes I have a strange sense of humour. Oh if only I could be more like Reg...

In fact, take private pics from someone to make your own profile, it's just insane (and not legal) !

Imagine someone do the same with your own pics ??

i don't really understand why people do that... You want keep your privacy and be another person ?

well nothing wrong with that but unless create it with your own imagination and fantasy. Like Macca says you have many ways to do that (cartoons, animals, movie character, etc...)

Well I see Cyber came out of the closet.

People have made great points as to why not to use your own photo. I agree with them. The point that Macca is trying to make, is do not intentionally use someone else's photo and try to lead people on that it is you. I know he is not saying that you have to use your own photo. Just be honest and let people know it is not you. Why do you need to lie about who you are or what you look like. It is not a good way to start any sort of relationship, be it friendship or otherwise.

When you start off with a lie, it never leads to anything good. Be yourself, don't try to make others believe you are something you are not.
