Ok boys and girls, lets stir it up a bit.. WHY THE FAKE PROFILE PICS AND FAKE PICS EMBEDED ONTO YOUR PROFILE PAGE?

I have never understood it. Do you expect us to believe its really you? I have been doing to experimenting, some might call it stalking haha, and you would be surprised what google image search has revealed! Not going to name names but one 'girl' from Europe is using a Canadian models pics, that's the best I have found so far, apart from being directed to numerous porn sites. There are also 2 'girls' using the same profle picture of a hottie! Maybe its the same person with 2 accounts, I don't know, but anyway that pic directs to a number of porn sites!

Now before you all bite my head off... I have nothing against people wanting to hide their real selves on their profiles. Many of you use animals, or cartoon pic, which is totally cool. And I also know a few of you that do use real pics, so this doesn't apply to you (you know who you are).

So my question is... Is it acceptable for people to use pictures of real people to give the impression its them?

My answer is:

It is not an issue if it is acceptable or not, it will happen and has for over a decade in these sort of forums. Trying to debate it will not help, what would instead is making a thread that goes over internet safety so people that presume what they see is what they get are educated.

I see your point Nolua.. lets hope this thread turns into what you suggested.. However, I do think its a question of if its acceptable.. Would that Canadian model be happy for one of her photos being used by someone here without permission? I doubt it very much.. same goes for the rest of the people being depicted here. It may well be a common practice for fakers, but that doesn't mean its acceptable..

Right.. Lesson 1.. Don't believe or trust anyone on the internet. :) Lesson 2.. Revise lesson 1.

I used my real pic, then decided it was no longer needed as all the people I know that have befriended me know what I look like and I can now go with the cool pengu :D

Other than that forums have been the realm of using whatever picture you want for a long long time and any picture that is in the public domain that is not used to profit of any kind falls into fair use, so it matters not what the model or anybody else thinks, once its in the public domain, it is there, it can be used and it has been this way for a long time and there are laws that allow for it. As to fakers, honestly who cares :)

I don't really care if it's them or not. The whole thing is based on fantasy anyway, why not put your ideal self up there or something you know will get other's blood pumping (or your own...like Darth Talon here)? I think anyone that takes anything on the internet at face value needs a good sit-down. They are vulnerable and need to be educated so they don't become someone's victim.

Cheers,

be safe and have fun!

That's kinda my point.. do they really expect us to believe its them? And as for the copy right, my work touches on this subject now and again. Pictures of other from facebook, twitter etc is not a copy right infringement. But.. Photos of models modelling on porn sites or there own normal sites would be considered their or the photographers work, which would then be copy righted..

What is Copyright Infringement?

To simplify this question, copyright infringement occurs when you do certain things with a creative work which someone else produced without first getting the proper permission.

Some examples of copyright infringement (this is only a partial listing) can include:

•Placing someone else's photograph or creative work online without proper permission.

•Using a creative work commercially without permission.

•Adapting someone else's creative work found in one medium to another medium, such as making a book into a movie or a photograph into a painting.

•Modifying or editing a creative work without proper permission.

And im sure there is a rule here about it!

Oh well, im still new to this whole internet gaming stuff so have a lot to learn :)

I made my pic with a 3d sculpting program.

To each their own. I have no problem with it. Some people Don't want to be reminded of real life, on forums or in game.. Don't want to see our pimples, are self conscious, bad hair and awkward makeup/clothes.. If we wanted that we would look into mirror. So they google up "Hot girl" and grab pic of some babe with a 2007 flip phone doing a selfy. Whatever, It is nothing new.

Would the Canadian model be happy? For stealing her pic? who cares! She should have thought about that before uploading it to the net in the firsts place with no watermark.. If you want to upload pics of your self go right ahead. but don't get  mad if people use em. Its the internet after all. Home of the trolls, Pirates, lies, keyboard warriors  and conspiracies..  I already grabbed your pictures for instance and joined a clown site, a  midget fetish site and a site about pro abortion and gun control....! Will pretend to be a hot guy in Aviator sunglasses for a bit.(joke joke).. There are repercussions for every action. Some good some bad.. It is up to you to decide if you want to risk that kinda stuff. Acceptable behavior is not the norm on line. Expect the worst and be happy with what you get,

This will never change.. You can let it bother you, or not stress about it. Up to you..

Thanks nymph, your post has helped me understand it a bit better :) It doesn't worry me as such or stress me out, I just find it funny and a bit strange.. Still don't know why they cant use a cute fluffy animal or cartoon etc, if they don't want their real pic up. Do you recon I will get away with a pic of Chinning Tatum? haha.. :)

I chose not to use my own picture for my own reasons

now my own insecurities has me thinking that nobody believes that I am truly a woman

Why ? because I like Women more than I like Men. I'm still new, naive and somewhat

immature to this type social network.

This is me 15 years ago if you find this somewhere on the world wide web

ill post a picture of myself as I look today with your name on my belly

then delete

3 kids and to many tacos later I don't look like this anymore!!

omg im sorry im just cranky I made two negative post in in two days

Remember it is only copyright infringement if you blatantly ignore the DMCA and/or use the images for a profit or label them as being owned and copyrighted by you, use them in a manner other than what fair use allows, or use them maliciously for blackmail or such. Public domain, no watermark or implied copyright terms and conditions, we are fine.

If you want to be Channing Tatem you go right ahead and be him in a fantasy game and on a forum most people from the RIAA and MPAA would never look at :)

I always wanted to look like Jack Black, I think that will be my next pic :D I could so pull that off ;)

Well its not really that hard filtering out the fake ones.. Just right click their picture and search on google for it.. there u go.. if google is filled with the same picture, ur most likely fake.

There are even people in here stating that their signature pictures are made by themselves.. taking credit for other peoples work..

Cat, as I said in my first post, no issues with people wanting their privacy and not post their own pic, for what ever reasons.. Just a few people in game have said 'look at my profile on the forum, that's me, what do you think?' I just find it a bit strange why people do that. cute animals, cartoons, your Avi (which I think you had) is all good.. Im still pretty new to this to and still learning :) lol and yes Doll, your profile pic is cleaver and its obvious it just goes with your name :)
