Guest ameliaUK
All this gender-bashing lately here has got me thinking so I've decided to start a new thread for some more frank exchanges of opinion, as this is something that I have often wondered about. But please, keep it niiiice We all know that many girls in 3dxchat are, in fact, not girls at all. That is hardly front page news for a Sunday morning. However, I am curious to know something. Does a 'girl' (as in a female avi) having a secret male alt automatically mean that 'girl' is in fact a guy in real life? And more than that, if that 'girl' has a secret male alt whose profile says something like 'I'm a guy from Spain' or 'I'm an undergraduate male blah blah' does that more or less make it a dead cert that 'she' is really a guy, even more than simply having a secret male alt? What do people think? (And I'm pretty sure I may have had a male alt at one time just out of interest, so I know full well that sometimes girls do experiment with male alts without actually being male irl.) But I'm wondering about the majority really.
Guest ameliaUK
you just had to do it.........I'm genuinely interested! Plus, the time seemed ripe for some friendly discussion! Guest ameliaUK
nobody knows, they think they know but they dont. Ive been guilty of this in the past also. see a female have a male and instantly think they are actually male. i will also add i believe the bulk of people here have both. some wont admit it but they do. as a matter of fact i happen to know a few in these forums who speak out against it the most have avis or had avis of the opposite sex. as i said, i do also Ok, I suppose I should clarify. I don't so much mean players who have alts of the opposite sex. I mean players who spend 95% of their time as females in the game, and occasionally bring out a male alt, who happens to state very clearly in the profile that 'I am a man'. Why would they make a point of saying 'male' in their profile if they weren't really guys irl? Is it not an admission of guilt that they are, indeed, male irl? Like this was the first avi they set up, only to discover that being a girl is easier/more fun/whatever. itsmxga
Lilcal
I have a male avi.. or had now I have to save up the xgold. I have not noticed my cooter morphing into a pecker.. lol. So no, I dont believe a woman having a male avi means shes not a woman in rl. I made it male simply because, when I am on my alt, I dont feel like chatting. I just want to watch the chatter in world or local and not have to engage in convo. Yes I absolutely have voyeuristic tendencies. Ica

Leeloo
I think personally that a woman (female prime avatar avatar) with a "secret" male alt don't mean they obligatory are men in real. They can have made it (by exemple) have made it to try the 3somes. But a secret male alt with gifts is probably a man behind the screen as , i don't see why a woman would play with it. Guest Ciera
I tend to agree with Leeloo, other than people play in different ways for a whole host of reasons. A male avi at some point in a players career doesn't spell out 'bloke'. To someone who doesn't have a lot of confidence in someone they're getting close it could spell 'sufficient doubt, best avoid'. Personally it doesn't worry me too much which gender people play as, I feel they reveal their true selves in due course. I've said several times, and totally in jest, that most of the time it is easy to spot a man playing as a woman, not just because of the bad dress sense and oversize tits. That we all know is bollocks, the reality is more subtle and not all that easy to rationalise. Maybe attitudes and values? I'm not sure about assertiveness, I've met some pretty aggressive women in my life. All the aspects of 3dx, good and bad, are based an certain anonymity. In the you just have to rely on your own judgement I guess. (Translation for those people who use that turn of phrase to deliberately misunderstand - one has to rely on one's own judgement one supposes)

Guest Mulan
At the start of my 3DX “journey” I played as a female and nobody was none the wiser, and having been married to a woman for close to 7 years and as a person who can generally read people quite well I thought I was pretty convincing - like if a woman responds something like “that’s fine”, it is most definitely not fine and you are in dog house (although women are complex beings, so who knows). It wasn’t until I “came out” (for lack of a better term), that people were like “OMG, I never knew!”, maybe they were just being polite or sarcastic, or maybe they are just naive guys, or maybe I was such a convincing woman that I should be nominated for woman of the year. Who knows? I agree with Ciera (yeah, that can happen, I am objective ), that even as a man reading some of these “female” profiles (minus the ones that say they are a male - you hardly need to be Sherlock to figure that one out), because guys have male characteristics and women have female characteristics. That is not a negative knock on either gender, it is just biology. Regarding, the last point Leeloo made. It is true that, in general, more men play as women, compared to more women playing as men. I don’t know whether this is because women are different and don’t want to be men as much as women want to be men or what. One of the most famous transgender Caitlyn Jenner said although men transitioning to women got most of the press attention, it was actually 50/50 and there are more female to male trans than we hear about in the news. It is also true that the majority of the demographic is male in 3DX, so it would make sense that there is more men playing as women and not as many women playing as men. I don’t think I have actually made any points and just rambled. So to answer the question, is a woman who has a male alt actually a male in real life? No. At the same time, don’t be a hypocrite (don’t mean you personally). Don’t in one sentence say that, men playing as women is bad, and in then login and sitting there on your character selection screen is a male alt. “Well, I wanna try out poses and threesomes”, they say. That is bull. That is what Betty and Bob are for. Nitro

But, if your avatar is a woman, and if you want to try the 3 or 4 FMM (don't know how much heteros have), you have to create a second male avatar. Exept if you can select Bob twice. Guest ameliaUK
i think her original point or question was lost. She was wondering how a female who claims to be female yet has a male alt stating "he" is really male in the profile is looked upon since both profiles conflict with one another. i have no opinion on this because ive never seen it but perhaps some doThank you rob, this was exactly my question, just not as well-explained! Maybe I should explain why I ask... I used to have a friend who I respected and like very much and, if asked, I would have said she was 100% female irl. But more by chance I saw that she had a male alt, whose profile stated 'European guy here' which was of course something of a... surprise So I wondered whether this 'admission' increased the likelihood that she was really a man or if it's just smoke and mirrors... xMaceyx
So I have a friend who is apparently lesbian, has a male alt that has gifts and is also married... so this would mean likely male in rl? With the amount of males playing this game as females (myself included) its probably easier to look at everyone as male until proven to be otherwise pashion

Sage Stoner
With the amount of males playing this game as females (myself included) its probably easier to look at everyone as male until proven to be otherwise I would agree with that logic, but also point out that it actually makes more sense (to me, at least) to recognize the fact that the shape of a person's genitals in real life has no bearing on their gender identity either in real life or on the Internet. Camden
I dunno. When I played SL, a lot of women played as men. One went as far as using a voice modulation tool to keep the ruse.I don’t care much about men playing as women or women playing as men. However, personally I prefer sex with men but then, I don’t think I’ve had sex with a woman disguised as a man. It makes me wonder if it’s a better time as some ppl ive talked on that platform seem to think so. I’m not that good at role play to pretend to be another gender. Not in a way that’s not a joke. Hell when I played as my bro I was probably offensive to men in how I played him. chloe, Briana and pashion
Guest Ciera
If I were truly honest, picking up on Briana's OTT challenge and Sage's slight dig, I'm probably right far less often than I think. I still believe that sooner or later people show their true colours as you get to know them. Their gender is just one of the things revealed. Anyway I'm an irish witch, I know stuff. If you said everybody in 3dx is a bloke then you'd be right between 90 and 95% of the time anyway. - Sorry if one said blah ........ blah ................ blah
Sage Stoner
If you said everybody in 3dx is a bloke then you'd be right between 90 and 95% of the time anyway. Wait a minute. If you said "everybody in 3dx is a bloke" you would be wrong 100% of the time. Not everybody in 3dx is a bloke, so you would never be right saying that. Now, if you said "90 to 95% of the people in 3dx are blokes," you'd be right. Unless, of course, you want to argue over what the numbers are. But the point is that, yes, most 3DX players have penis-shaped genitals. So, if you pointed once at every individual 3DX player and said "You're a bloke," you'd be right 90 to 95% of the time." Guest Ciera
Seriously though, if it's that important to find out if the rl behind a given avi is male or female why not ask the question 'what would you put on the bartbecue?' A male rl would drive a hundred mile round trip to a farmer called Bill to buy the best 16oz 28 day aged steaks in the county/state. A female rl wouid pop out and pick up the best fish she can from the local fishmonger or market, maybe from the man in a van who comes round on Tuesdays, then marinate it in olive oil, white wine, herbs and garlic.
