Required RP tools in game!

I don’t think this thread will be read by many and I know it would fit better in the “Development and suggestions” category but we can’t create new threads there anymore...

 

However, as I have lot of fun with the game thanks to custom rooms and role play, I want to share here the tools and features that are not hard to implement and which would be very welcome for better RP:

 

1) NEAR CHAT TAB: A tab in chat on which we would be able to read only the phrases posted by characters near your avi (= less than 4m with obstacle between or less than 8m without obstacle).

/me phrases would still be fully readable without distance limit.

That would ease RP, would add some fun and would avoid non RP to be flooded by RP phrases that they don’t care because not involved.

I know the game had a RP tab back in years and it was not used a lot. The NEAR tab I suggest has a different behavior than LOCAL and is fun to use both for HRP and RP.

 

2) COLORED NAMES: When a room has more than 5 active players, things start to be hard to follow and read. We need different colors on names!

Our name color could be customizable in character Editor.

Also, our own name in chat should stay white bold to differentiate easily from other names.

 

3) THINK: Add a /think /t command like the /me command to describe thoughs in a different color (blue for example).

That allows description of thoughs to help others understand what mood your character is in.

 

4) BUBBLES: When someone is posting a description on the NEAR channel, a small temporary bubble is displayed above head. Only visible by the ones on room who are too far to receive the phrase (see point 1)

/me : simple exclamation mark

/think : think empty bubble (like a small cloud)

normal text : round bubble with “...” (round with tiny arrow)

 

5) PHONE: Add a button somewhere in right panel when our character is idle so she/he can pop a smartphone in right hand and put it on ear or in front of eyes. That would allow us to show others that we are chatting with someone(s) far away (maybe not even in room). That would also show that our avi is not just idle.

The character would behave exactly like when we have a bottle in hand.

 

6) AFK: This has been suggested numerous times already. That would basically display “AFK” beside nickname when user did not post anything in chat and did not move at all after 5min.

 

7) GRAB: We can grab a bottle currently... that’s cool but that would be nice to have something else in the exact same hand position like a glass or an umbrella

 

8) KICK/BAN: We seriously need a way to kick users from our own room. A kick would prevent the kicked user to join back the room for at least 5minutes.

Also, ignored users should be kicked automatically and then unable to join the room. The room should still be listed but in red in the list so they know they are ignored.

Uhm... As a RP lover, I'm not sure all of your suggestions would be useful... Let me explain

 

1) A near chat tab doesn't seem really worth to me. What would be the distance limit ? Do you consider a tree as an obstacle ? Or a waist high rock ?

Now we can have really huge user rooms, what if I decide to shout ? I would have to toggle through the chat tabs to scream to someone and toggle back to get back to "/me" things... Even though it's the same RP

 

2) Colored names... Uhm... Well, why not ? Some play with names off though

 

3) /think is useless in my opinion, just start your RP with "/me thinks (to her/himself)...". It will do just fine, I've tried it already *giggles*

 

4) Bubbles might help as much as they can ruin your RP : the people you're talking with will know before you press enter or the send button what you're about to do. Being very descriptive and litterate, I also think it would annoy me to see a bubble above my head while having sex (for example >_>) while I write like... 6 paragraphs ! ;)

 

5) Phone would be nice, but let's dream : we need more interactive objects ! Shushpanzer was funny the first time... ^^

 

6) I sometimes AFK being alt tabbed, but come back to the game when someone pms me. People wouldn't talk to me then with the AFK stuff I guess. I'd suggest an option letting people know you're AFK or semi AFK instead :)

 

7) See point 5 ^^

 

Finally I'll add something to your post Heden. RP doesn't need that much of visual stuff or interactive options. You can do a great RP only with pen and paper, what matters are the words you use, the way you make the one(s) you're interacting with aknowledge about your actions/thoughts/feelings with those words. Imagination is the limit in 3dx *winks*

 

Nonetheless, don't think I disparage your ideas. It's good to see people trying to make this community better !

While your ideas are great, most of that has been suggested before. The game had a roleplay tab once and noone used it so they got rid of it again.

 

About the other ideas... its like with any suggestion people make here. Cool idea... never happen.

I'd really appreciate any progress towards better RP options, but I am not too optimistic about seeing any of them implemented anytime soon.

Anyway, here's my comments on your suggestions:

 

1) I might be lacking the imagination, but I'm not sure how this will be practical, compared to local and/or group chat

2) I completely agree

3) As FrenchKiss mentioned, /me thinks .... should work nicely

4) I kinda like the idea, as local/group/near chat might get flooded at times, we might be able to keep track of what's happening more easily

5) and 6) Better handling of AFK/semi AFK is needed indeed

7) It would be so cool if we could grab a glass of wine :-)

 

To Nikki's point I also believe that we will have to live with the limitations for a while longer ... after all, RP is about imagination anyway ;-)

Near chat tab is available in any multiplayer D&D game. That's like creating automatic GROUP with nearest people. Easy, fast and natural to use. The old RP tab had no different behavior than LOCAL tab. That's why no one used it

Any Chat nowadays have colored names. That's very useful to use and read a long conversation.

/think command would have a different color, again to differentiate action from thoughs. Of course we use /me currently but that would be nice to have another way to express something different.

The bubble idea would be only for users who are too far from the talkative people in NEAR tab. Thanks to that far users know what users users are actually talking/acting/thinking but can't know what they wrote without approaching. That means, people involved in a RP would not see the bubbles from the nearest users, only the ones from far users.
The bubble idea is to display only a symbol (exclamation mark for /me, "..." for classic text and a cloud for /think)

That's a way to easily spot who is talking/acting/thinking (instead of a talking animation) ;)

I agree with you and AFK text should be displayed or not at will, not automatically. :)
 
 
And yes, I know we can do great RP with just papers... But we are in a game quite advanced visually, so advanced features would also be welcome.

Yeah... I know those suggestions will probably never happen... I know 3DX for a long time and I also know that developers don't even read the forum... But I always want to suggest what I think when I like something because I don't do that, I feel like what I have in minde has no chance to exist one day. At least, I feel like I have dropped a SOS bottle in ocean... ;)

Added one missing suggestion I had in mind for a long time:

Hello there. I realy love some of your ideas.

 

1) NEAR CHAT TAB: I completely agree with this. It realy bothers me that people use mostly the messaging system to privately talk to eachother making rooms realy silent, other than the occasional yell in the local chat. I realy think that ALL games like these should implement a system like this. You should actually APPROACH a person and introduce yourself, which would be nicer instead of popping them a private message. If this would be implemented, I would never use private chat to speak with persons in the same room.

 

2) COLORED NAMES: I'm not sure about this one. I realy love to keep the interface as clean as possible and that includes unnecesary colors and symbols which would just saturate the ambience with unneeded elements. 

 

3) THINK: Absolutely. and even more commands like this would be nice which would show in chat with different colors or have a different construction.

 

4) BUBBLES: Again it would add more noise popping in the ambience, and I have the same opinion as with COLORED NAMES

 

5) PHONE: I LOOOOOOVE this idea. This would be so cool! Or even if it would be taken further, to have a toggle tab to optionally use the answer phone animation when pm-ing people if the player choses to enable it. This is so nice!

 

6) AFK: Well the previous phone idea would be useful even for this. So maybe no AFK symbol is needed next to a name in a room. But the AFK sign should be available on the friendlist next to the name, to let friends know why the answer might come late if they are messaging.

 

7) GRAB: well this list would be endless if I would try to enumerate how many things I would like to grab. And I also would like a bit of rework on the IDLE poses to have a bit more interesting ones. (idle pose when one is waiting, looking around occasionaly looking at his/her watch; Smoking casual standing pose; so on and so forth)

 

8) KICK/BAN: Agreed. This is an issue. Not because of rude people. But more because if you make a dedicated RP room you should be able to manage people who are following the rules and those who are not.
