Game crashes computer

I just re-installed the game after upgrading my computer to windows 10 and now after a few minutes the game crashes locking up my whole system. Unable to do a Alt+Tab or Crtl+Alt+Delete. Have to do a hard shut down.  I tried a fresh install of the game, allowed it through my firewall and set it to run as Admin but still crashes no matter what I do. My drivers are all up to date, and I have no issue running other applications and games. I'm running windows 10 Pro 64-bit. 16 Gigs of Ram, Graphic Card is a 970. Any ideas on what could be the cause? I tried running the game in windows compatibility mode as well.

See i don't think that's the case, as I run more graphic intense games and it never locks up and I don't feel any heat coming off of the board. There's 4 fans plus the two on the video card so it keep rather cool at all times. I'll try tweaking the setting of the card and see what happens.

Could be a corrupted windows 10 install upgrade to. Could try a reset. It is pretty common after a upgrade to have some software conflicts. After the upgrade a lot of people do a complete wipe and reset. Get rid of all those pesky leftover old os files.

Do ya have EVGA precision or MSI afterburner installed? Some reports recently of certain games causing entire wiondows 10 OS to crash if you have certain versions installed. Maybe is one of those.

You can test that with many programs such as HWmonitor.

3DX is badly optimized, there are very few games that are as demanding on performance as is 3DX regardless of settings.

3DX have very high usage, especially you are using max / near maxed graphics. It's more of the case of awful programming than how pretty it looks.

So overheating could be an issue too.

Here are few things you can try and solve this if you have the patience:

You could put everything at low and load to an empty room or just dressing room and wait there few moments see if it does same.

In 3DX Turn on FPS limit to 30 / 60 instead of unlimited. Turn off multiple lights, SSAO/ SSRR they tend to cause issues for ppl here.

Since you said it started with Win10, I would reinstall your drivers ( download new, uninstall old, restart PC, install new, restart ) That should make sure you do a clean install.

Win10 had some compatibility issues at the start so you should definitively check GPU drivers, sound, and network (Some brands such as killer network had such clusterfuck of memory leaks and crashes with outdated drivers when Win10 first came out.

Then some of your last resort options:

If you did upgrade to Win 10 then Win 10 features downgrade to Windows 7 / 8. You could try that and see if it works now. If not just do a clean install of 10.

If that doesn't help:

There's program called memtest that would tell you if your ram or rams sticks are faulty.

PSU tends to reset computer if it gets under heavy load (such as 3dx) and the PSU is either weak ( wouldn't say that's your case ) or a broken it can cause random restarts during heavy power usage.

Broken GPU is another thing that can cause random restarts.

That's all I can think of at 5 am.

Random restarts like that are quite a hard thing to guess from distance. There's never one solution, for you it can be broken drivers for someone else it can be broken PSU or ram stick.

I hope some of it helps.

Thanks for the tips. I got it working after a re-install of the game, I did a memory test and found no issue. I made exceptions for the game in my firewall and antivirus and was working with no issue just a bit of lag. Went to various rooms and never locked up.

Thanks again for all the help
