LunaBaby
Hi all! Just joined the community, but am a longtime Mac user . Is there a good starter PC gaming laptop you'd recommend? I don't know about any of these things, but don't want to spend a lot of money or have to build a lot. I'm already a pretty avid Second Life player so would love to upgrade that experience as well. Eventually want to get Oculus too Any recommendations appreciated!
LovelyBritney
Getting a gaming laptop isn't really worth it, especially if you want to run Oculus on it, that's at least my opinion I think getting a desktop would be cheaper and it would run better, but i might be wrong, not an expert Lovers
LunaBaby
Thx Britney! I don't have much space, or really even a desk to put a monitor on Do you use a desktop?
LovelyBritney
I have a desktop and a laptop, and only use the laptop when I travel as i do everything on desktop. And as Rob says, you can use a TV or make some space and get some smaller desk, you don't need a lot of space really

LovelyBritney
Building a PC is really complex, so either find someone who really understands it, or buy a prebuild one, but i recommend finding someone who knows his stuff
Guest Mulan
A Nvidia GTX 1060 is the recommended graphics card (for Oculus). Intel i5. 8GB RAM (maybe 16). The most important thing is the graphics card. I would get a desktop personally. If you need a laptop then get a cheap Chromebook or something for travel, or you already have a perfectly capable Mac which is great for everything but gaming. Gaming laptops are big, will go through battery in no time and you do not get the same value. I don't know what the equivalent is in your country, but I used PC Specialist to custom build my PC. TashaTight
If they're still over you're budget i would search up their specs and try compare them to other cheaper models, then consider what parts you could compromise on for a cheaper model. Hope that helps P.S as someone who did some research myself back when i bought a new arguably more expensive choice, areas you can typically cut price is going with Hybrid hard drive, or non SSD hard drive, going lower on the amount of RAM, choosing older model graphic card or going with lower resolution or inch screen. Lovers
Hi as Mulan said if you eventually want to run Oculus you will need a decent graphics card .... you can get the minimum specs on the Oculus website .... It is possible to get a laptop to run Oculus but you are probably looking at around £/$2000 .... because the graphic cards are large and can run hot, so laptops need special graphic cards. You need something like a nvidia gtx 1060 as Mulan said (which I have) or similar ....... or a Radeon 290 or better. Regards Sputnik

Regards Sputnik Yeah, i am kinda afraid the OP will realize there likely will end being some compromises if budget for it's suppose to lay around 800-900$ margin and not around the 2000$, but i guess something OP will have to figure out where those compromises are going to be at
