Clear instructions would be nice

3dx say there is an update, no instructions or official links to the update files ....

Yes there are bits and pieces around the forum and links, but I want an official link so I don't get duped with a virus ....

And please has anyone got the update to work without a reinstall ... It seems a simple uninstal doesn't work without a registry edit and again downloading a free registry cleaner which again I don't trust .... :(  :(  :(

Clear instructions would be nice

From  http://3dxchat.com/support/#updates

1) Completely uninstall the game.

2) Remove the 3DXChat game folder.

3) Clear your registry. See how to do it here.

4) Download the latest installer and install it: Download 3DXChat (Mirrors: Google Drive or MEGA)

5) Run the game (and the patcher) as administrator, but first add the game (and the patcher) to the exception list of your firewall AND antivirus.

feel free to go hang out elsewhere.

?  ... every other software I use I just need to update it with a patch that works, or if it needs a fresh install the software usually automatically does it before installing the new version .....

Professional does not require instructions to do what the software should :(

if you need help with it, shoot me a pm. wont take but a minute

Thanks for the offer, but pretty much can see what needs to be done .... Just consider that 3dx should do more than just put a notice on their site with no instructions or links .... not everyone reads a forum .....

well to be fair most of the times when you run the patch, it just patchs it. this time something went wrong but usually you just run the patcher.

Yes I can understand that things can go wrong but 3dx has put on their site that a new patch is available but no links to the patch?

My laptop gave me many problems with what should have been an easy deletion of the 3DXChat folder. It kept insisting I needed Admin Privileges and then when I logged on as an Admin, it still told me the same thing.

I finally had to go into Safe Mode (not sure how I finally even thought of THAT idea) to delete the folder.

ALL of this insured the wedding I had planned for about two months in here to my fiancé didn't happen.

SO, were the instructions that some of you insist were easy to follow, actually easy to follow?  I dunno, you tell me? I followed them and still had problems and 3DX decides to do an update on a day with my wedding that would have happened without the update.

WHO do I blame?  Maybe I should start with myself for thinking there was no chance for any problems today that would originate with 3DX.....like that has never happened before.

(just my very humble opinion.....on a day that lets me know how it must feel for others to have an important day lost for something that should have been NO problem at all to correct in time to marry.....and trying to be calm when all I want to do is post about a million swear words in as many languages as possible)

To my understanding if you do not run a new execute file for 3dx for 363 you will still have all the problems of 362 without the new beach. No it's not very professional, but it is what it is. This why everyone is recommending a clean install. Cheers.

Not unprofessional at all. You just need to know how to follow instructions written in plain English. If that is beyond your ken, feel free to go hang out elsewhere.

Do you seriously think that creating an update, then saying to people you need to go into and edit the windows registry file is being professional ?

What if someone goes in there and messes up, deletes the wrong things.

Sending people into edit the registry is very unprofessional.

Why not just the normal automatic update, are they not even capable (professional enough) to get that to work.

And Sage if you don't like people pointing out such things, maybe you should go elsewhere.

Some are just looking for an excuse to bitch at devs because 99 percent of the time the patch updates work fine.

To be clear, the complaint is there isn't an official instruction ..... several different members giving instructions from uninstall to ... clear registry .... to use a registry cleaner ...  is just confusing. Who is right? .... So I choose the wrong advice and I'm to blame? ..... when a simple notice from 3dx would clear up the issue ... And if that is bitching then I'm a bitch :)

A professional approach would be to remove the install and advise people the patch will be available shortly, fix the problem asap and then let us know it is there.

For people that have tried to install it manually then help them with this garbage.

Like the patch doesn't even come up, it just goes in with the old version.

And because of that they tell us in yet another un professional manner how to install it manually, using a method that if done incorrectly can stuff a persons computer.

Are you seriously trying to tell us this is a professional approach.

And Rob, I am sure that isn't the last thing you will say and knew what you said would get a reaction from people.

We don't need to look for things to bitch about with the devs, there is always plenty of that around to bitch about, they give us far to much of it.

Some people seem to insist on bitching about anyone making any sort of complaint about the devs.

Edited to add...

What about people that don't come in these forums.

They will see a new patch has been added on the login screen and do what I did this morning.

Go in the game, likely go to the beach and just see the old beach with everyone standing around looking confused.

If they don't get told by someone in the game, or don't come to these forums they will have no idea of what is going on.

How many are going to be left wondering what the hell is going on.

I am at work right now, I haven't tried to get the new version or gone in the game to see what it is like still.

I will when I get home on my laptop I play the game on.

But if I was expecting a professional approach I would think that in that time the auto updater would be working.

You know when good instructions have been given .... there are very few comments.

You know when instructions are bad ... many comments, including people calling other members bitches and telling them to use other software.

It can often appear that those questioning are less experienced, however those questioning may have more experience and knowledge of what can go wrong when things are done incorrectly ...

PS and yes I have backup on disk and in the cloud, but I don't have the time to be reinstalling windows ... and the amount of times restore fails ... don't get me started ...

Never ever had to clear the registry settings for 3dxChat or reinstall the game to fix a problem (and my game doesn't really have an easy living XD).

Registry just stores a few in-game settings, so they don't really have anything to do with patches or updates, no need to reset that unless you just want to reset the settings to defaults.

3dxChat is a generic-built Unity game, it doesn't even care about being properly installed or anything, you can install as many same or different versions of the game as many times as you like and they will work just fine, just install every copy into a different folder. The only thing they will share is the user settings.

You can also copy, move or delete those copies as you need to.

So, you can just download the 363 installer, install it into a different folder (if you want to keep the previous version) and don't mess with the buggy patcher.

As for the patcher itself, it's a pretty old bin-diff patching system from Unity's Asset store that has been abandoned by the author a long while ago due to a lot of bugs and no time to fix them. So, it's probably not very reliable

You didn't point out jack shit in the post I reacted to. All you did was call the Devs unprofessional. There have been plenty of times when I have criticized the Devs, but when I do, I state clear reasons for my opinion.

So let's get one thing straight: You are free to point out whatever you like, and I am free to point out that your opinions are idiotic and don't add anything to the discussion.

If someone has paid for something, why should they need to put in extra work? I mean, go find professional elsewhere for something you've already paid for? Most software I've ran removes old files and runs a clean install or gives you the option of doing so. The OP was giving constructive criticism. Is that bad now? Really? It's a useful suggestion. In fact the posted instructions came from a user. Installing should be a click of an install link or button no matter if the person can or cannot run regedit. I won't get into how they run their game as I've expressed many times that I felt it ass backwards but figured out that it won't change.

I have never uninstalled 3DX from my pooter. I still have version 1.0 all the way to this new 363 and i get no problemos eva!

All you do is install to a different folder. 1.0 is in 3DXChat folder, 2.0 is in 3DXChat2.0 folder and etc. On install location change where you save it to ie this new version went to a new folder 3DXChat2.5.363 and it all works soopaaaa. I can run each game too with no probs.

Sometimes things don't work, like this updater and if you don't know what to do there is always help in the forums if you frequent them or not. We all have 3DX Community button in game so all of us should know about the forums and can get info when we need it.

I heard gaming is pretty hard and pooter stuff n junks can get ya in a tangle but with the right peeps to hilp and a little patience you wont have yaself a little mischief.

Every software developper delivers new update with bug ... EVERY : Microsoft being at the top.

As far as I am here, this is first time an update bug so much. Not an excuse but a fact.

What I really regreet is the lack of information in advance which makes a "bug" a "very frustrated bug".

But let's keep positive :

We have a very new nice beach (I LOVE THIS PLACE)

We have wall pose available at home. (GOOOOOOOD)

People than do not want to use tweak dll can make much more fitting than before.

Futa..... can cum on F

So game is better today that it was 2 days ago.

Yesterday is just a day to forget.

and as patch-days are not so often (french humour on) such a bad day will not happen again soon .... hahahaha  :D  :D  :D

Agreed, messing with registry is not sensible, although manually removing the SexGameDevil key is okay as long as people leave everything else well alone. But as an official solution for installation issues, it's not great or professional. Registry cleaners per se are worth swerving, and do little to speed up PCs as is claimed. Having a bunch of redundant keys in your registry will do no harm whatsoever but accidentally deleting important ones because a software developer has incorrectly applied an algorithm can be catastrophic.

ok...this has got a bit nasty...as always...shame on you...you know who i mean.

I uninstalled, downloaded and installed again and it's working ok without editing registry stuffs or whatever...but... i'd also expect it to work that way right? Thats not unreasonable and isn't "bitching" or "whining" to point out when it doesn't and say it should have been pulled and fixed.

I think it's great that some of you guys have figured out how to get around the bugs some are facing...like Sage..thanks...but frankly the general attitude to Twigs and others who rightly said they shouldn't have to...sucks.

I expect better :P c'mon people

Also...love any updates so...thank you 3dx...we understand things don't always go perfectly...i think our complaints here are valid and for the most part relatively nicely articulated.

What extra did you need to know from was obvious, you try to go in the game expecting an update from it clearly being shown in the login screen.

You do not get a patcher and you go straight into the game, when you get in there and go to the beach you see 50 or more people standing around wondering what the hell is going on.

And this was your reaction.

Not unprofessional at all. You just need to know how to follow instructions written in plain English. If that is beyond your ken, feel free to go hang out elsewhere.

Insulting as always and telling me to go elsewhere.

This is not just the usual patch problem where some people are having to do an uninstall and reinstall, this is from what I can see all of us having to do so, at least a good amount of us.

If you don't believe it is un professional fine, but why come back with the crap you did, if I did not give you enough information, why not just ask why I thought so.

You come in these threads with all your crap attitude and wonder why you get bad responses.

Then play a professional game? Always amuses me how you go around saying we have a right to do this or that but when someone says something you dont agree with you get all pissy.   don't want to clean your registry or whatever or reinstall the game, don't. its that simple. problem solved.

I say ..

Sorry, but how un professional is this.

and you come back with this

Last thing i will say because im not interested in a arguement is this... Some are just looking for an excuse to bitch at devs because 99 percent of the time the patch updates work fine. One time it doesnt and the world is ending

The glitches and stuff i get but to be complaining about one update that didnt go smoothly is a bit much.   my opinion of course, you are free to have your own on the subject. want to be clear on that

And you say I am the one getting pissy over something "some are just looking for an excuse to bitch at the devs"

The truth is any time someone does have a complaint about something the devs have done you get all pissy about it.

seems pretty clear to me, only thing missing is him holding your hand and brushing your hair while you do it

And more insulting smart ass crap, and you wonder why people get pissy as you call it with you.

For your information I am sure I will have no trouble getting the new version in, and would have even without the instructions in here.

As others have said I have never had to go into the registry to do so, just installed the new version and only once had to un install to get it to work.

Unlike you though I think about the people that won't, the people wondering what to do and having to go through finding out.

Also the people that make mistakes trying to make sense of what gets put in these forums.

You have your opinion and I have mine, it is how you always put your opinion across that gets people pissy.

Try doing it without the insults.
