Ohsweetjazzy
Hi all-- I find that I often lag in 3DX. For those you who know such things, is this a function of 1)my video card (NVIDIA GT 730 that came with my system), 2)my DSL connection, 3)3DX itself or 4)something else? I thought of upgrading my vid card but maybe asking the experts on here might be a good idea first. Thanks! Jazz Pierrousss

Ashbash
Hey Jazzy, When you say lagging in rooms, do you mean the public locations that are available? Like the beach, fresco club, love island etc..? If so, it may be your card, as your card is a pretty old card. As the public rooms are the most optimized rooms of the rooms. But if you are referring to player rooms, ones that players have made. The majority of them are jam packed with tons of props which can even lag out the most powerful of hardware. Which is unavoidable unfortunately. But also it could be other factors that could relate to the other pieces of hardware in your computer system. But it can also be too many people showing up on the screen at once, could be lagging you out. As they are all high quality models in terms of body and mesh. But if it is the public rooms that were made by the developers themselves then it may be related to your hardware. Although a GT 730 should still be sufficient to play the game albeit on low settings though. You could try a driver update if there is any, that may help out a bit better Here is the most up to date Driver Update provided by Nvidia for your card: http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/83080 Try updating to that to see if it helps your performance if you haven't already updated to it. If not, then there is not much else you can do if you're playing on the most minimal of settings. But as Athena posted above, posting your System Specs will help much better. chaostika, OLESYA, Abbey and 1 other
Abbey
Hey Jazz, I'd have to agree with Ash. Your Gpu is an older one 1-2 gb card so it will be pushed to run this on high settings. Any busy or heavy rooms will lag and your fps will drop a lot. But honestly it could be more than just that. Possibly Cpu performance playing a factor or could be slow internet connection? As for 3dx itself, my game runs smoothly with no lag at all, so I don't believe thats the issue unfortunately. It's always best to post your system specifications when you got a tech question it helps people give you a more accurate answer. Hi Ash-I think it's more the private rooms, with all the mods. Thank you so much for the driver info. I think I updated a couple months ago, but Ill do so again. Thanks! I think I updated a couple months ago, but Ill do so again. Thanks! Down the road if you have some extra cash i would suggest getting 8gb extra ram, 8gb isn't a lot for windows 10 i find personally. You could try lowering shadows and put on simple water in settings if you have not. Shadings take up a lot of memory usually same with advanced water features, hope you get your problem solved
Athena Starfire
With only 8GB ram and Memory Hog Windows 10, you are prolly swapping to hard drive a lot..This will lag your system. The 18mbps DSL is not the greatest...but not much can be done about that.. Have you checked if it uses your Nvidia graphic card, some intel also have some integrated graphics that sometimes sideline Nvidia card had that issue with my Lenovo graphic card. There a link below that explain how you force laptop to use the Nvidia card instead https://superuser.com/questions/525041/can-i-force-my-laptop-to-use-nvidia-instead-of-intel
Guest Mulan
Even with my system (yeah, I like to show off ): Desktop SystemIntel Core i7 Six Core Processor i7-6800K (3.4GHz) 15MB CacheASUS X99-A II: ATX, USB 3.1, SATA 6 GB/s, RGB Ready32GB HyperX SAVAGE DDR4 3000MHz8GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 10801.2TB INTEL 750 SERIES PCIe SSD (up to 2400MB/sR | 1200MB/sW)CORSAIR 850W RMx SERIES MODULAR 80 PLUS®GOLD, ULTRA QUIETCorsair H100i V2 Hydro Series High-Performance CPU CoolerWindows 10 Professional 64 BitASUS PG27AQ 27" 4K IPS G-Sync ROG SwiftI also run Antergos (Linux) on a separate partition. Internet speed should not make a huge difference, as long as you have 10+ Mbps down. I still have issues with lag sometimes in the large user rooms. It is not necessarily the sheer size of the room but what you put in the room. If you have a lot of light sources, then I think the room with lag. Whether or not you lag more with the DLL, I haven't tested. The DLL shows all the light sources, without the DLL you will see only seven lights. When you have a high-end gaming machine that can play the latest Tomb Raider and GTA V in 4K close to 60fps on Ultra, then you expect 3DX with some quite basic Unity graphics to work in Ultra. First I would ask room creators to be more mindful that not everyone has high-end machines, and for those who do have high-end machines, we don't expect to have to turn down the quality. Second, the developers need to optimise their code better. I remember when large rooms would take up to a minute or longer to load. Alex suggested one small change, and now room loading is much quicker (unloading is still slow for large rooms, and occasionally people will hang on the loading screen if a room owner closes a large room). Lastly, if you are going to update your system which is mainly used for gaming then there is no need to get more than 16GB of RAM, and there is no reason to get an i7, an i5 will be okay. More cores and more RAM only really becomes useful in tasks like video editing and running Virtual Machines, an i7 and more than 16GB of RAM will make zero difference to gaming performance. The most significant changes you can make are the graphics card and an SSD if you still have a standard spinning disk. chaostika and MeiLing
Nikki
People need to stop going overboard with their rooms then it wont lag alot. Less is more. MissPlaced and xDoe
Rob.
I got a crappy computer, player made rooms with over with constant overlaps of items like the black table with the blue lights will create lag. When building a room I set it to a high setting so other computers are able to function inside what are considered really big fucking rooms. Guest Mulan
Well, yes. There are some large user rooms, if designed well, do not lag that much. If room creators can find a balance of creating a big room that is also efficient and lag free then by all means go for it. On the other hand. If I enter a room with a high-end gaming PC and I drop to 1 FPS (exaggerating), then I am not sticking around. The only way these massive resource intensive rooms are going to stop, is if people don't visit them. I have seen a few popular rooms with no DLL mods (myself included, not to blow my own trumpet). There is more to it than a room. A good host, good music, good people in local chat - all of these help to make an enjoyable evening. I even get complimented that it is nice to see a "normal" room again. Even with the limited options, it is still possible to look and be unique, without building a massive creation made from coffee tables. Lexzia
Before i had a bad PC, and i was also one there was lagging easy. I was on medium settings all the time there. And when i went to private rooms, i often went on low.The problem with custom rooms is as some says, you need to find the balance in the room. Its not only big rooms you can lag in, its also some small rooms. It all depends of how many objects and what kind of objects you have in the area you are in with your Avatar.Often it helps if you go to one of the edge in the room, there are less objects to have in HD for your PC. If some build rooms, its always a good idea to ask some they know have a "bad" PC to test the room for lag before have a party.
