3dxchat as the sex of the future?

Something I've been pondering for some time now: What do you think, will games like 3DX change the way we have sex in real life and if yes, how?

Coming from a very techy background, I'm early adopter for many things and one of the reasons I originally stumbled into 3dxchat was its support for the (now obsolete) Oculus Rift DK1. Was not too impressed then, but that's another story. In general, VR brings "immersive" to a new meaning, particularly for sex games, I'd say.

With social VR platforms like AltspaceVR (that have nothing to do with sex ... yet) already attracting lots of people, I am wondering what others think about this trend. Can you imagine putting on VR equipment and have "fully immersive" virtual sex that eventually - maybe - completely replaces real sex (let's forget reproduction for a second)?

Compared to real sex, what I fundamentally miss for example is "the feel of body heat", not to speak of those (yet) missing devices that stimulate the interesting spots :)

Many of you have been playing games like 3dx and others for a long time, so I am curious about your ideas.

No it won't, for two reasons:

1) People get bored of cybersex. Just look how many people move on from the game and never return. The cyber experience is exciting, but not indefinitely so.

2) Androids. They're coming. Virtual worlds like 3dx will become redundant, unless that platform can somehow adapt.

well, I'd say people also get bored of real life sex, so that's probably not too different from cyber sex :)

The androids are a good point, however. On the other hand, an android requires physical space in your flat/house, whereas virtual worlds are purely virtual. And much easier to have sex with a virtual fantasy figure that you can redesign with a mouse click than with a "static" android that always looks the same in the end.

But isn't this the point - for as long as humans have existed, they have sought out a physical partner to share a roof with... Yeah sure, sometimes you wish they'd just f*ck off and give you some space... but the desire for companionship is still there.

Androids will still provide this and, with a bit of luck, won't answer back lol. Virtual spaces can't by their very nature expand beyond the mind, though granted the mind is very powerful and it's perfectly possible to fall for someone in the online world as irl.

But they'll never been mainstream... as Rob says, humans are the future, unless we kill each other first that is.

I hasten to add the thought of shagging an android is kinda... bizarre... not my thing at all... but the revolution is still gonna happen...

I think virtual worlds are very much going to be big part of the near future. I don't think virtual sex will ever replace real sex, though. I also don't think virtual worlds will ever become redundant. We have barely scratched the surface of the possibilities of virtual worlds.

Androids are much further off and will be exponentially more expensive than becoming part of a virtual world / community. Not to mention the two technologies are not at all mutually exclusive. They serve different purposes. Virtual worlds are about connecting / existing with other humans in virtual space. Androids are about having something physically real, but not human. An android is something you can have do physical tasks for you in the real world. Androids are for the real world. Virtual worlds are a whole other place not constrained by physical laws or reality.

I think virtual worlds of the future will become more like the ones in books like Neuromancer or the Otherland series. It will be like if you took Facebook and turned it into a huge virtual city that people could hang out in, shop, visit other worlds from... like a hub for nearly all of the internet and online gaming.. represented in 3d virtual space. It won't replace real life, but supplement it. People will always have physical needs - eating, sleeping, exercise, sex, etc.. Until the day comes when we can transfer a human consciousness into code...

Actual sex with another human life form is the future of sex.

Actually, it is sex with aliens.

Seriously, cyber is cool and all that but even with gadgets it doesn't compare to the human experience in the flesh. I mean you can describe the hell out of licking my spot but nothing compares to the feeling of the tongue being there. Lol, I don't know how virtual reality can ever emulate that. Not saying it's impossible but I don't get it.

Yes, I can imagine that as well. Not sure however if that will make us "better" humans, but that's not the point of the question, of course. Somehow reminds me of this ...

Future seem to already to be coming here in terms of artificial experiences http://dailycaller.com/2016/10/31/very-realistic-human-sex-robots-coming-out-in-2017/think by 2050 they will have perfected it so much that half population with money, will have one at that point either male or female. I know some may laugh about it now, but one thing most expert agree on is that our neoliberal society create lonely people and damage peoples ability to create relation with others, so personally don't think it will be unrealistic less moral compass of society change in a different direction.

This is a complicated topic that I don't think many of the people responding actually understand.  Future technology is something people always struggle with.  If you were to tell people they'd be carrying tiny flat PC's in their pockets back in the 90's they'd look at you like you were crazy.  Even today people still don't understand how self-driving cars and Amazon's drones are going to affect the future.

That said, I believe it will be a very long time until anything "replaces" real sex.  A lot of it depends on other future technologies.  Ever seen Sword Art Online?  Once we're able to actually enter virtual worlds ourselves (instead of being represented by an avatar) that's when things will change.  When you can physically touch, feel, etc. people in the virtual world then it makes no difference whether you're in reality or not.  Though I don't think "touch feedback" will be enough, so it will take many many iterations of VR before anything gets good enough for this.

I agree with Sentra; I think we are only just at the very start of what will be possible. At its most basic and non-sexual level, I think it is absolutely wonderful that one of my best friends is from Holland, and I have friends from Norway, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, Czech, Australia, America, Canada, Finland, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Japan, New Zealand... the list goes on. The technology breaks down boundaries of distance, and love it or hate it a common language of English that we can all communicate with each other in.

Who knows what is possible in the future? We could all be plugged into something like the Matrix, and we would never even know it. In love with, having sex with someone the other side of the world in New Zealand. You can be cynical and say we will all become mindless puppets of the machine with Emporer Zuckerburg walking around his minions. However, personally, I am excited, excited about the boundaries it removes, the real democratisation of people being able to talk freely across borders (as long as your country doesn't block it).

When it comes to boredom in virtual sex, the same thing happens in real life. If you have a relationship entirely based on sex, then virtual or real life, it will get boring. The same applies if that person is also your best friend and you can deal with the bad stuff then you are a lot more likely to last and not get bored with each other.

Androids? The most enjoyable thing to me is the conversation. Currently, Siri, Google Now, or the Amazon Echo do not turn me on.  Sex can be simulated quite easily. The human subtleties and complexities of a full conversation cannot yet replace a human. Not even close.

For me, eroticism - which is that part that makes the difference between good and lousy sex - arises in the head, and at least that is independent of the fact if sex is virtual or real. Nevertheless, besides the emotional nearness, which can be achieved by communication even on a platform like 3dx, there is a need for physical nearness as well, at least for me, and this is where the limits of games like 3dx are.

  • 2 months later...

reviving this old thread as I just read this:

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/apr/27/race-to-build-world-first-sex-robot

And as it seems, the market for those devices is focused around males ...

"A small-scale 2016 study by the University of Duisburg-Essen found that more than 40% of the 263 heterosexual men surveyed said they could imagine buying a sex robot for themselves now or in the next five years."

Really? Would you really buy a sex robot instead of interacting (at least) in a game like 3DXChat?

Biggest Cons of RL Sex (obviously from a Lesbian POV)

1.) Major RL Drama .. In case you don't know it, Scorned Lesbians can be much more brutal than men ever can. When they coined the phase "Hell Hath No Fury As A Woman Scorned" they must have had a Lesbian in mind. They can be downright vicious.

2.) Disease ... STD's among Lesbians are very common.

Biggest Pros of Virtual Sex (From my prospective)

1.) No Bad Drama ... Sure, there is drama in any interaction between humans, (hetro, bisexual, gay, lesbian) but the difference in virtual you can click a button and it goes away (unless you were stupid enough to give real life details)

2.) No Diseases (unless you count a hacker planting a virus)

3.) Virtual Sex is different from Porn....I have Lesbian Porn I can masturbate to but its much more enjoyable if you have a depiction of a gorgeous partner on the other side of the screen (or world). I have had some mind-blowing orgasms in this manner. Some better that actual real sex. (believe it or not)

Some Cons of Virtual Sex (depends on how seriously you take it)

1.) Mixing actual feeling with feeling for a avatar on a computer screen. I have found that I can actually get very attached emotionally to some (real people operating avatars) I meet in sex computer games. When they let you down or disappear you feel it, especially if they stated the same feeling. Some people do this on purpose just to "fuck with people" and have a good laugh. I feel very sorry for them, they must have pathetic lives.

2.) You never know who you are with...You may see a sex female avatar but you never know if its actually a woman or a man. They definately don't look like that in RL. There are no fat, ugly avatars in 3DX :) Myself, I can usually spot them, if you get into a conversation a man has no idea how to think like a woman..there are other signs , won't go into that :)

I recently got very, very, attached to a woman in 3DX now she seems to be gone..and I have been going through hell. Luckily I have some that want to take her place.

Summation:

Its YOUR choice how involved you want to get in virtual sex. If you have a good imagination it can be fantastic. If you allow it to effect your emotions you might pay for it in RL.

You will have to excuse me..I have to charge the batteries in my Vibrating Egg before I see my new girl tonight :)

Frankly, I think it would be a step forward in a lot of cultures if people would start to consider orgasms a necessary part daily personal hygiene, just like urination and defecation, and---speaking from personal experience---especially for males between the ages of 10 and 35.

Seen in that light, robots and other masturbation aids might help a lot of people distinguish the difference between sex as an act of hygiene and sex as an expression of love.  Because I am sure there are plenty of people in the world who think, "Why put up with drama when you can just do it with a robot who looks like your favorite porn actress?"

This is definitely true. But just think: what if you could control the sex robot that your partner has, and vice versa? So you direct what the robot does, and your partner does the same for theirs, so you're having sex with a robot but a real person is doing all the kissing, biting, licking, sucking and position changing. It'd be the best of both worlds, because you can fuck a sex robot whenever you want, but you still get the intimacy of experiencing it with another human being. They'll probably come out with all kinds of sex robots linked to different software to make it an interactive experience with a partner.

Well, on the market right now is a vibrating egg that you can control over the internet, or maybe its an app on a phone (MeiLing says she has on) that lesbians can use to make each other cum in RL over the internet. That is so cool... but a little more than I'm into :)

The wonderful thing about those tools is how incredibly insecure some of them are right now, see for example https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/04/04/intimate_adult_toy_fails_penetration_test/

Yes, we are all facing truly amazing times, when we can visit anyones private parts by just using a smartphone or similar.
