I was too zealous to get back in shape

Recently, I did some research that derived from me clicking on a particular exercise video on YouTube. I'm in my mid 30's and am now seeing the belly that we men deal with at this age. I've been seeing it for a while but never payed it too much mind. I figured I was probably eating too much and I was just full. To where now I'm actually feeling my gut. It's like I'm pregnant or something. Somehow, I have a more empathetic heart to women now. Anyway, I'm looking at my gut and I'm not pleased with what I see. Wasn't sure what to do about it in regards to exercise. I tried jogging like 2 weeks ago but it's getting colder outside and I don't like cold weather too much. I naturally paid it no mind after the jog but man was my legs burning the next day.

Fast forwarding back to present day I look at this YouTube video about six pack abs. They're talking about the right and wrong ways to lose belly fat. They even go into how it's made and what happens to the male body as it gets older. I've come to learn that we men also have the capacity to produce estrogen cells which is what creates the fat. If I'm remembering correctly. It's where the " man boobs " come from. Estrogen cells. Due to what we eat and lack of activating our testosterone. Needless to say I was not about to let this get out of control. I now have a better understanding of men who walk around with big bellies and fat chest. It's a clear indication of a lack of testosterone and loads of estrogen. I'm a man. I want my testosterone!!

I did research on how to activate the hormones necessary to get testosterone levels back to where they need to be. In doing so it creates the necessary cells that actually attack fat cells. So in learning the exercise techniques to solve this issue, that I gladly caught early on before it got worse, I immediately have begun the new work out plan. I worked out the first night, two nights ago, and felt good. The next morning? My body was aching. It's fine, I would tell myself. I haven't worked out that hard since my football playing days in High School. I'll get back on track and it'll be a piece of cake after a while. No pain no Gain, right? I work out again that night. Wasn't as hard as the night before cause I was still a bit sore but I still managed to do a decent work out. Working on my core mostly.

To wake up today and feel like a handicap. I mean I am aching. I can't even sneeze without my abs crying to me that they are activated yet are not used to this attention. It takes about a good 5 seconds for me to get out of my desk chair to simply go to the restroom. I'm walking like a penguin pretty much. I may have over worked my body that has been in such a lazy mode for the past 10 years. To immediately start humping those work outs like I'm a teenager again is really backfiring at the moment. It's good though. I've always considered myself to be a tough guy and can handle pain pretty well. But on this day I say " Whoa, there big fella ".

I'm going to rest up for a day or two and start the work outs again. It's good to know that these new exercises actually work cause I do feel the burn days after. I just have to pace myself and be a bit more realistic. It's a joy to know that I'm going into the New Year already in my resolution. Which is basically to love myself more by taking care of my body better.

Hi Kuru,

Your best bet is to see your doctor, then a dietician, then to make appointments with 3 diff trainers over 3 diff months to see who you click with, then set up a long term plan. Going to youtube for exercises is sometimes good to learn form, but finding a "one size fits all" fitness and wellness plan there is a recipe for injury.

I hope you feel better soon!

xo,

Good advise. Thanks to the both of you. Luckily I'm ex military so I'm pretty sure how to get back into shape without the help of a trainer. I just needed to know what exercises I needed to do in order to get this belly fat off. They said the traditional cardio way like fitness bikes or running are not at all effective in losing that belly fat. When I saw the exercises it immediately brought me back to basic training and football practice. I don't feel as though I need a doctor in this regard. I'm just out of shape. Not for long though.
