computer shuts down even on low settings

I've been able to run the game just fine until this patch. Now whenever I get into the game, 5 seconds of being in the home my computer shuts down and I have to unplug and replug.

This has never happened with skyrim ultra graphics, dark souls 2, or even PSO2.

If I could get some help that would be most appreciated, thank you.

I have been having a similar problem for the last few days, just not quite as bad. My computer graphics locks up but I can ctrl+alt+del to the task manager and shut off 3dxchat. I can not, however, restart the client without it instantly locking up again. I need to completely restart my computer, then I can restart the game.

Usually it will then start and run, though I have frequent disconnects and crashes. It does seem, for some weird reason, that the longer I am on the more stable it becomes. Which seems backwards from what you would expect.

Literally bluescreen or the client is locking up?

Can you go into your install folder and see if there are any crash or .dmp logs?

Shutting down, as in 'shutting down', not blue screen, nor the client. Literally shutting off.

My graphics card is a geforce GTX660

Ram 8gb

6-core

Power supply is 500WW

My rig exceeds the top level graphics of the game by far, and can manage the games I've listed above at a nearly stable 50, some even 60 fps.

I would look at your power supply. 500w is borderline on what most video cards recommend you use.

I am running 2 Nvidia GTX285 in my computer. Each has a lower power requirement than that card, but playing this game with my vertical sync set at 30fps, I am drawing 600w, with both cards running at ~45%. If I turn off vertical sync I am drawing close to 700w, with both cards running at ~99%.

Your power supply might have been just strong enough to run the game before, but with the new updates you could be drawing just a little more than your power supply can handle.

If you exceed what your power supply can do, you will force the computer to shut down. The power supply will cut power to keep from destroying itself (it will overheat incredibly fast). The rule of thumb is always get a larger power supply than you need. It will not consume more energy when running, in some cases will consume less, but will give you plenty of room for future upgrades and will run cooler.

I am not sure why but this game taxes my system almost as badly as if I was running a bench testing program. I have run other games with much better graphics and put less of a strain on my system than this game does.

Oh, now that I think of it. Go into your Nvidia control and set vertical sync to "Adaptive", and if you have a fast monitor set it to "half refresh rate". I am running a constant 30fps doing this, my monitor refresh is 59hz. This will greatly reduce the strain on your system and, therefore, the power draw.

As I mentioned, this game taxes my system more than almost any other game I have ever played. I have not tried the games you mentioned, so can't make a comment about how those run on my system.

Do you have a way to find out how much power your computer is drawing from the outlet? I use an APC UPS that gives me the power consumption readings for my computer on a built-in display. I would check to see how much your computer is actually drawing.

When it says it "requires a 450w power supply" it is saying that that is the minimum that is recommended. Any less and your computer will shut down if you try to run it at full power. Needing 450w and having 500w only gives you about 10% over what the minimum requirement for the card. Extra hard drives or cooling fans will use that up quick.

I am running a 1000w power supply.
