Caren
Hello everyone! <3 Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women and is our 2nd leading cause of death. To honor my much loved and much missed twin Rosemary - who left 3dx last year but was a champion of this cause - I will be wearing pink all month and encouraging people to become informed, encouraging women to learn to perform a bse, to schedule regular mammograms, and maybe to share their own stories. Here are a few sites that may be helpful to you! http://www.cancer.org/cancer/breastcancer/detailedguide/breast-cancer-key-statistics http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/about-breast-cancer/ https://m.thebreastcancersite.greatergood.com/clickToGive/bcs/home So much love, Caren Desirea, Chilles, PoisonMortel and 11 others

Caren
Good morning! Thank you for the kindness above! A breast self-examination is an excellent test for early detection. Do one every month to become familiar with the feel and map of your breasts! http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/testing/types/self_exam http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-self-exam chloe
Nellie
im not female but excellent post. Speaking as someone who just last week had a sister who had a breast cancer scare and as a friend of a 38 year old woman who failed to get checked when she felt a bump and now has mets to the liver, Its very important to be checked. I would implore you to get checked regularly because a little time can be the difference in something being treatable or not. Rob, men can get breast cancer as well. No it is not common. And as you see, you do not have to be the person with it to have it effect your life. Thank you for this Caren. I lost my mother when I was 21 of breast cancer. She battled hard for 3 years.Early detection might have her still with me today. My step mom also had it, and is 3 years cancer free.lol, she sent this to me last year.Encourage your loved ones to do self-exams and mamos ~Nellie chloe, BlackRock and Caren
Caren
Happy Tuesday! Here's another link, plus I wanted to take a mo to thank Shanti, Rob, and Nellie for sharing in this thread. Hopefully, the biggest benefit of awareness is a greater understanding of our roles in detection. Become informed. Don't wait. http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/breast-cancer-awareness-month xo, Caren chloe

Guest beccie
One year ago (wow, is it a year already?!?) I initiated Pink October on 3dx to promote awareness of breast cancer, a disease that continues to claim too many lives - of women and men - worldwide each year. Today I was in hospital with my niece who was undergoing tests for a potentially life-changing illness. A young girl, maybe 10 years old, came into the waiting area in a wheelchair. She had the scars of a terrible, and well-known, disease, one that had claimed her leg, which had been amputated. She was smiling and laughing - a picture of happiness, despite her condition. It was a sobering, moving and educational experience. Above all, it reminded me of the sanctity of life. This October, different events have been arranged on 3dx and around the world to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. So in the virtual world, and in real life, please support these important events. Spread the word and know that, one day, you might just help save a life.
