SDK ?

Gally

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I would like to know where I can find the SDK (Software Development Kit) for 3DXchat ?

I posted my question in "technical support", because I'm not allowed to start a new topic in the section "Development & Suggestion" (probably a bug :(), but feel free to move my post in the correct section :)

Thanks !!!

Gally.

You'll find some infos in the User Created Content Topic!

Hi Achilles,

I know Ash posted that quite a while ago but there is not enough information on there to help people get started and also some of it is wrong.

For example where he says this ...

"Modelling/Animations: Will require the program 3DS Max 2012+ or any other Modelling program that allows you to export to the .max format."

I can send animations I created I made in another program in max format but I guaranty you they will not work, we need the correct bones structure or rigging to be able to make the animations suite.

Also animations saved in max format by other programs are rarely correct.

"Texturing/Materials: Will need to be hand painted/crafted in a program that allows the exporting of .png like Photoshop or Gimp etc..."

Again we need to have the meshes and other things to be able to design clothes to suite.

It's ok to say what format they need to be sent in, but without something to fit the clothes to it is like trying to make a dress for someone without having their sizes, actually it is a lot worse than that.

There has been several people try through sending Lisa resumes but with no success.

The only ones that have had success are FrechTouch with her animations and another who's name I can't remember that made some prints to go on clothes, She did not make clothes, just prints to go on them.

No one will be able to design clothes until some sort of development kit is supplied.

To supply animations from what I understand and am fairly sure of, you will need to supply them straight from 3D Studio max or from MotionBuilder, they are the only programs where the animations will appear the same in game as developed.

Although there are several other programs that will save in 3DS format, the animations do not save correctly, there are slight differences when ran in 3DS to what the animation looked like in the program it was developed in.

Plus, there are so many different bones structures and if you do an animation using one, it will not work properly on another.

So we do not have the bone structure, we do not have the meshes and that is what people are talking about, without them we cannot create anything.

FrenchTouch does Know the right format and requirements to send animations in, but I have tried to get that information from her and haven't been able to.

I also tried to find out a way that we may be able to have animations done in other programs transferred to MotionBuilder and sent to Lisa, but again no success.

If the devs are serious about wanting us to create custom content for the game, then they need to get serious about supplying us with what we need to be able to do so.

I for one can make animations in other programs, I could do it in MotioBuilder but I am not going to pay over $300 a month for a sub to MotionBuilder or 3DS Max.

Lisa knows what is needed to make content, she needs to make that available.

I haven't much experiences or interest about the animations developing stuff but I know to share parts of 3DXChat sources with other members needs a lot time and trust because 3DXChat isn't openSource.

To share too many informations or give out a SDK brings also the risk to copy parts of the game.

I agree, some User created content needs really a chance and a eye of the Developers but also is it sometimes better if the Developers do it self because it's faster as when the developers first explain to someone all needed steps and also will this safe all engine parts of 3DXChat :)

The core question is what's more preferred: Should the Developers invest her time to make user created content 3DXChat ready or should the Developers invest her time to Develop self her planed Updates?

Don't forget 3DXChat isn't a Browser or Flash game ;)

I know nothing.

All I know is that I also play Achat and SL.
Whatever you think of those products, Achat, for example, has enabled a working environment for user content for several years (although, not poses) and they are continually providing new content, typically twice a week.
Since the start of the year, the updates have included at least 5 poses (including 3some and tg oriented), lots of clothing, hairstyles and even handcuffs. Most of it, apart from the poses, created by users.

Admittedly none of that is free but the annual sub is half of what they charge here and you can play for free.

I don't know Achat or SL :)

RLC for example is a Browser game or something like this...

3DXChat is a Standalone Game with closed Engine based on Unity :)

There are a big difference between the games like RLC for example it looks better...

I wonder if they are just worried about protecting their product. I agree that without at least a skeleton on model of some sort it will be difficult to make clothing if not impossible. Maybe a developer kit could just have a model for the body, it doesn't need to include textures, etc. Just a base from which one can create clothing and hair. I been begging for curly hair since I started, well suggested.

I am on the opposite end of this. While it would be nice for user deving i also think you lose some quality. I can only go by imvu , which is the only other chat game im in and for every one good pose, room or clothing, there are 100 pieces of crap that you have to sift through to find anything worthwhile

Not to mention if they started doing that, would open the door to charging for content which i am 100 percent against.

Hey again Achilles.

I don't think RLC is a browser based game, you have to download it so I would think it is a stand alone game to.

There are things that the devs should keep to themselves yes, but they could easily supply a manikin of a sort to fit clothes to, or even a room where we can try clothes we have made.

Animations are already being done by FrenchTouch so any information needed has already been supplied to that person at least.

For locations, they would only need to explain what is needed, which would be fairly standard.

Having said that though I know that Stu tried a couple of times to supply things like a bar for the beach and was just told it is in the wrong format.

He ended up giving up on it because they wouldn't let him know what he needed to supply.

They have said they want to let have people do custom content and have had 2 add some things to the game, but what has been done has only just touched on what could be done.

They could do it without risking any technology they have, like they don't have to hand out a complete character, just a mesh and that is common.

There is no excuses Achilles, they just haven't been prepared to put the time in to do it, even though it wouldn't involve to much time.

But I guess that is what we should expect as that is what they have always done.

Well to let them know and who ever else is interested, I know there is a team being put together by a person that has gained investments to go into competition with them.

So they better get serious about what they have or they stand to loose it.

I can state that RLC is in fact NOT a browser based world and I have been apart of in for 10 yrs plus I know alot about that place and I know that this is way better than there but this world in particular lacks content...RLC started out similar to this limited places few places to go etc but now it has expanded and gained twice as many if not more people than ever.  Second Life is another world in fact the biggest one in existence and its come a long way too its been around for many many years also started out small and limited...but as you always see it advertised a world created by real people thats not joke its definately custom content before and look how long they have been around also RLC and IMVU so if ya think about it this place could be the same and I personally would like to see this happen but ultimately its not really up to us its up to the devs and that entire time those are the people that will make it happen or put the brakes on the decision lies with them..

OK, RLC isn't Browser game but honestly I don't care because it looks like a Browser game :D

You can glad try to add Tattoos or Clothes of RLC in 3DXChat but I'm sure it looks a bit stupid because both are still very different :)

I had the guess it's Web based and the client a kind of an RLC own Browser because all works with links in this client :)

But I can't find exact Infos about the sources and Engine of RLC...

Not really because it reinforces my assumption it's web based and a kind of browser Game :D

Because the internal links of RLC starts with VWW

The company has recently released the groundwork for this with its Virtual World Web (VWW) option to its service.

Also how it works in his core reinforces my assumption because the client works as permanent downloader and VWW browser. If you add new clothes or another stuff online in browser to your avatar is it short time later there on your alt and client also is your Utherverse online profile integrate in this client :)

There are a lot web based games who do it similar...

But the core topic is: Web based isn't a own Game Engine like Unity!

It's for everyone with some experiences of web programming possible to develop web based stuff. But Unity as game engine is complete different.

RLC:

RLC is based on  Prototerra game engine from approximately 10 years ago. It is a stand alone 'game.'

PROS: Paid economy resulting in 10's of thousands of user created articles of clothing, and skins.  Customizable properties and clubs individually owned,  ( Some as large as the Beach in 3DX), large community (though shrinking due to its age) averaging 1500 online daily, some make a real life living off of in world sales like SL.

CONS: Paid economy,  aging outdated graphics, no further development in RLC by developers (Curio is Utherverse's  next step built in Unity 5 - currently in beta), not even close in 'sexiness',  shrinking community (but still 5 times larger than 3DX at this point), limited future life.

Curio (RLC2):

Pros: Paid economy will result in drawing the most talented to it to create custom content for sale. Textures, animations, scripts, and props, Unity 5 Graphics and engine,  Personal properties,  club ownership, potential for rapid (daily) content development, multi platform expansion (Tablets, android, etc)

CONS: Paid economy resulting in having to buy each and everything desired,  Economy manipulation - by those attempting to scam for profit,  Monthly property rents, unknown other negatives. Monthly subscription costs + property rents + clothing costs + props (furniture etc) = Monthly cost.

3DX:

Pros: Currently up and running Unity engine game, upgrading to Unity 5. One subscription fee with all costs included. Updated several times a year with content. Great graphics (that will get even better), free apartments than can serve for private and house parties, well done animations, and overall very sexy, staff has shown interest in considering user created content and open to suggestions.

Cons: Limited content updates, lack of clothing diversity, extremely limited props (furniture, etc), needs better administration system for kicking and banning unwanted guests from personal properties causing problems,  limited ability to customize personal look.

I would like to say that I have been a part of the RLC community for almost 10 yrs I do enjoy the world and would like to stay that I do recall when it was about the same size of this world and dig alot of growing after many updates were added to the world...I do believe it had night candy blu's the bordello the alley and some type of sex place and that was it ohh and the street and the transport area so indeed not large at all...I would like to see this place grow also RLC is a membership fee of $20 usd for VIP (yellow) being which makes you able to engage in sexual activites also there is a free member status as well which would be green.. there is an economy there and lots of people including myself have done very well with making money inworld then cashing out irl...i hope to see this incorporated here since xgold already exists...what else could xgold be for?? adding characters and having a beer only in game? LOL!!  I have also been in curio as well its nice to look at but its just complete crap the animations are bad and they are actually the same ones that are in the game now if any of you play there is NOTHING different which is kinda sad....I hope for the best here as I said before I would love to see this place grow!!:)

this may sound silly but im gonna throw this simple solution female and male avatar use the same skeletal structure and body model no matter what theres only two genders i could be wrong but i bet its the same ones , if those were public problem solved 100% and you cant copy game assets which btw isn't hard to do as unity engine currently stands i could send in work to the admins but i would also be banned for using their assets to make them assets ? see what i mean here in order to correctly make artwork for the game we would have to break a law in most countries and rip the content out of the game files to do so that isnt a solution.

I'm sure the devs have base temples or something similar they use to make content. They could make these resources available to people.

I know of MANY diff people, myself included who have made content and submitted it with no reply from anyone about it.  :(
